WOW! Google Has Met Their Donation Goal!

If you have been considering making a donation to help support the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, you may want to head on over to Google.com as they are matching every donation received dollar for dollar for the first $1 million in donations.

Your donation will go directly to Network for Good and will be distributed to the American Red Cross, which will be opening shelters, providing aid, and distributing supplies to victims in Texas and across the Gulf Coast. Google will cover all processing fees so that 100% of your donation goes to where it is needed most. ❤️

I am not sure of other cards, but for all my fellow Discover cardmembers… please be aware that you can donate any portion of your cash back bonus (as low as $0.01!) to the RedCross! You can do so online just like you’d redeem your cashback bonus for anything else.

      Good to know!

    • Lindsay

      Thank you Taylor

    • Philip

Thanks! I just donated all my Discover rewards!

Boston residents, Mayor Walsh is collecting new toiletries, np food, diapers and new clothing for Houston. You can find donation drop off sites and more information at the mayor’s website or help for Houston.

Thank you for that information! I have family in Boston and were looking for ways to help.

CampingWorld in Houston is matching donations dollar for dollar through Labor Day, and is also open to have necessities shipped to their location, and it will be sorted and distributed immediately.

Thanks for the info I have points accumulated that I have not used in years that I can donate.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re very welcome!

Can you donate the money you got from Google opinion rewards app?

  6. herme

Darn I just donated directly to American Red Cross. Wish I did it through Google to double the amount.

I’m not going to donate through anything that will go to Red Cross. I went to medical school; one of my teacher used to work at Red Cross. She told us only the small portion of the donation will go to the cause. The corporate execs only care for themselves, not the bottom feeder. Although Google will double the amount, I still feel that it’s not worth it. I understand they have to pay the people who do the job, but I prefer to donate through local churches.

    • Amber Pena

I completely agree – there are much better organizations to donate to if you want to help.

    • jen

Yeah I’ve heard shady things about the red cross too. It’s too bad since they are so widely known and thought of during a disaster.

  8. Dodda

Google reached their goal , they no longer match , you can donate directly to red Cross , that’s what their website says

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks for letting us know!

  9. Mommyof5

Thank you for your help we greatly appreciate. During this hard time we are going through.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re very welcome!

Amazon is matching donations to the red cross too.

Anyone know of a legit place to donate in Milwaukee area? I’m so worried about scammers.

    From an organization I work with about donating items to Harvey relief;
PLEASE DON’T SEND ITEMS! Pretty please. If you want to help please SEND MONEY. Send what you would have spent to mail something and donate that item to a local organization. The organizations on the ground in Harvey’s path know exactly what is needed and can leverage corporate and wholesale relationships to get items cheaper than you ever could. The onslaught of unusable donations after a crisis is called the “2nd disaster” by relief orgs. Additionally, when you send items they have to spend precious time and staff power sorting through all they are sent. Donating dollars, which are also tax deductible for you, mean they can get folks exactly what they need quickly!!

The one exception I’ve seen is the Texas Diaper Bank. They are accepting diapers, baby clothes, etc. Check out Texas diaper bank.org .

I work with a local diaper bank and know diapering needs are huge in Texas right now. A few places you can donate money if you would like to help this cause are

Texas Diaper Bank has a donate button toward the top right and has an option for disaster relief

    Austin Diaper Bank

    • Diana

Don’t forget TX Diaper Bank needs adult diapers too.

As a teacher, I also worried about the schools impacted by Harvey. If you’re looking for even more ways to help, I’d suggest Donors Choose which has a specific fund to help those teachers restore their classrooms and supplies. https://www.donorschoose.org/hurricane-harvey

    • Obler

Very cool. Thanks for the link.

As per the Official Pampers Facebook page: If you are a pampers gift to grow rewards points member, you can donate your points to their disaster relief fund and those points will be used for natural disasters such as hurricane Harvey. Each set of 10points is worth 10¢.
