This thing saved me in the newborn days, but now at 3 months it’s pretty hard transitioning my son. Regardless it’s still a great buy!

I agree! It’s a love-hate relationship. Any tips to transition??

      • Anna

Oh yes please! I’m pregnant with #4 and haven’t purchased one before because I was worried about transitioning…but it’s so tempting especially since all my kids are poor sleepers

        • ashley

We had a little bit of trouble transitioning, but don’t let that deter you. It’s sooo worth having one. I had to eventually rock my little guy in a chair and put him down already asleep in the crib. Sometimes I would start him in the rock and play, and once he was asleep in that I would carefully lift him out amd put him in the crib.

Thank you Ashley!! I’m just starting second trimester so I still have a lot of time—I wonder if this is the best price? Or if I can get it gently used since you don’t use them very long? Thank you!!!

A word of caution– my son slept in one of these and wound up needing a helmet because he had flatness on the back of his head, and there are articles that show these can contribute to head and neck issues because it restricts their range of motion, etc. So we are not using one with our newborn daughter. Worth looking into at least, just wanted to share!

It’s a pretty great price for the auto version, in my opinion. We got our baby used to both, so he would soothe himself. He napped in ones that aren’t auto on the other floors of the house all day and we used the auto feature at night, as necessary. Love these.

            • Kitty

This is a great price! I did get one used for grandparents house for $15 but that may vary. I’ve never used an auto rocker but that might be nice

          • Kitty

            Ok I’ll try that thanks!

      • Jessica

We’re still using ours, but I saw a post recently about transition. They took a long blanket and rolled it long ways, put it under the sheet in the shape of a U. This gave baby the feeling like the rock n play instead of the wide open spaces of the crib. Not sure if it works, but wanted to share! 🙂 good luck!

Hi! We easily transitioned our daughter from the Rock n’play to her crib using the Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit. She used it from 3-7 months and at 7 months we took her out of it for overnight. She’s been sleeping through the night for 3 weeks now and she just turned 8 months yesterday. I was a little hesitant to buy the sleep suit but it made her feel snug and secure and DEFINITELY helped her transition from the rock n’ play. She is the only one of our kids who slept through the night before 15 months. Best of luck!!

This thing saved my sanity. My last baby had lots of reflux and allergy issues, and thanks to the rock and play we all finally got some sleep. I loved the fact that he would stay perfectly elevated in a safe positionand never ended up slouched down at the end of the seat like the previous glider seat we had. I felt better that this was actually designed for sleeping and was generally safer than a bouncer, glider, or swing for overnight.

Thanks for your helpful review Ashley!

Beware these can cause flat heads make sure babe gets plenty of tummy time if using one of these. Also my daughter wouldn’t sleep in one for anything but this is a great price to try and can gift if it doesn’t work out for your child.

This item & swaddles are my #1 & #2 all time grandmother favs with my grand girls. My daughter would swaddle them & they were used to being swaddled so the rock-n-play was great bedside companion for me. I could change pampers. Move them to another area & rock them. Keep holding time to minimum. Just enough for loving care.
No fancy equipment needed. Had swing, bouncer, etc but rock-n-play was best served and most used item. Storage very convenient space wise. Highly recommend. Never used sound or any features an I still love just the basic rock and hold slant feature. Nothing special😌just simple item.

Interesting. My child seems to be fine. My friend with a child the same age who only sleeps on a mattress needs a helmet. I thought the rock n play may have helped my kiddo, guess not!

    • Jennifer

Any surface that a baby sleeps on for a long period of time can cause this. The only solution is to hold the baby more.

    • Angi

Same thing happened to my son. He developed torticollis and scoliosis because of this thing and had to end up wearing a helmet and doing a year of physical therapy 3x per week BUT it did help with his reflux SO use your best judgement.

  8. Miki

Love this thing! Highly recommend !!my son has acid reflux abs has been congested fir a few weeks abs this helps so much!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Happy this has helped his reflux! Thanks for the feedback Miki!

The RNP are amazing! I highly recommend it. They can be hard to transition your child so make sure to use both your crib and RNP. To those saying these cause a flat head…that can happen with sleeping in a crib too. You need to make sure to play and move your LO and do tummy time.

  10. K

The concern of this causing a flat head is not limited to the rocker- that shouldn’t stop you from buying this! There was a significant increase in flat heads when the Back To Sleep campaign started in the 90’s. Obviously the decrease in SIDS from the campaign is the most important thing- a flat head is easier to fix than the alternative. The most important thing is just to make sure babies get lots (way more than you think- a few minutes a day is not enough!) of tummy time. This is important not only so that they have time off of their head, but mainly to work on strengthening the neck muscles so that they can lift and adjust their heads when on their backs. Also, just a reminder that torticollis can also be congenital and may have nothing to do with how they sleep but a result of how they were positioned for 9 months in utero.

This thing was fantastic for my daughter who HATED to sit or lay flat in ANYTHING! She slept in it for 6-7 months next to our bed until she got too long. Can’t recommend one of these enough!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for your review Meg! Good to know how useful this sleeper was for your family!

We used the basic rock and play for my two kids. Best thing ever. It helped them sleep so much better at night the first few weeks when I needed the sleep to help my body recover. To transition around 10 weeks I moved the rock and play to their nursery for a few days and then had started to do naps during the day in bier crib around the same time. It wasn’t a seamless transition consistently at night right away. They would wake up a few times for about a week or two but then they were good. This thing is 100% worth it. And neither of my kids had flat heads from it. You need to be mindful of how your baby is positioned 24/7 and not just at night. And I’m sure some kids are more susceptible to getting a flat head than others too.

I got the auto rock and play for my baby. Just my thoughts on the auto feature:
The auto rock is very slow and kinda lame if you ask me. It’s rather difficult to manually rock it when the auto system is connected. Not easy to take the auto part on and off. When you have to have it plugged in it’s difficult to move from one room to another versus one that’s not plugged in. Mine did not have a battery option, not sure if this one does.
All in all My baby didn’t really care about the rock and play but loved the faster movement of the swing…
