Attention Verizon customers in Florida!

Starting today, September 9th through September 11th, in order to help Floridians stay connected during Hurricane Irma, Verizon will relieve talk, text and data charges to customers in the impacted counties. Check if your in a qualifying area here.

During this time, you may still receive data overage charges – BUT they will be taken care of by your next bill. You can ignore any overage alerts you receive during this time.

    That is interesting considering many people throughout the United States are experiencing service issues with Verizon. I live in PA and can not make or receive calls. Sometimes text does not work either. See outage chart here

        I don’t think it sounds self absorbed at all. I think her point is, how can they provide that service when there are outages over most of the country, including Florida!

          I don’t think it sounds self-absorbed either. I would be wondering the same thing if I had trouble sending or receiving texts, etc. Verizon is expensive and their service should always be available, in my opinion. I do think it’s nice of them to offer this service to those impacted by Irma. It’s a rough time for people in Florida–my family included–and every little bit helps.

            I don’t expect anything to work for at least a few days after landfall.
            According to the chart that Barbi posted it appears the only areas in Florida that are having outages right now are areas that are currently being affected by the storm. That is to be expected. I think the reason her statement comes across a little self-absorbed is that she is complaining about her coverage in a thread that is intended to inform Floridians affected by a hurricane that they are going to receive a little extra data this month.
            I would say if you’re unhappy with your coverage or the price you are paying you should either contact your carrier or look for a new provider.

      That sounds unbareable.
      Yes it is self absorbed! The writer lives in PA and is troubled about her ability to send and receive text. There are fellow citizens in Florida who are unsure if there home will survive the storm. May I suggest calling Verizon or visiting a Verizon store if you are having that much difficulty. You are also free to change carriers.

        Oh my….this is Miss Self Absorbed. I apologize that I have offended so many people with my comment. I feel it needs further explaining. I never have problems with my Verizon coverage.
        The problem started on Friday, .the same day Hurricane Irma was hitting the Florida Keys. That is why I found it interesting that Verizon was making promises to the people in Florida when clearly they could not even keep people in Pennsylvania, unaffected by a hurricane, with service. I hope Verizon can deliver on that promise….not only providing unlimited data, but just as important, uninterrupted service.

    Well thank you my brother lives in Florida and is stuck it home of course but he has been able to use his service without any interruption he was glad when i toward this to him

    Thank you verizon! I am near the Tampa bay area…it is about to hit me head on tonight, so good to know I won’t pay an arm and a leg for overage!

          SO glad to hear that !! We lost electricity for a few hours but we are back up. Otherwise all is fine. Terrible storm but thankfully nowhere near as bad as feared. Really glad u guys are ok Tricka !!

    I find it odd that a couple of you would even take the time to comment on this post. I’m certain the purpose of sharing this info is just to get the word out in case someone missed it. Often times during hurricanes we lose power, cable, and internet for days or even weeks. Last time my cellphone was the most reliable. I’m grateful to Verizon! It’s very easy to sit in PA and gripe about coverage. Hope that gets better for you all soon.

    Sometimes life throws the unexpected at you, and it could mean using extra data that you weren’t planning on needing. Verizon will relieve talk, text and data charges from 9/9 through 9/11 to customers in the impacted counties, so you can stay connected when it matters most. These ZIP codes are the qualifying areas.
    During this time you may still receive data overage charges, but don’t worry, we’ve got them covered on your next bill. Just ignore any overage alerts you may receive during this time.
    If you have any questions or concerns during this difficult time, don’t hesitate to visit a local store (click here to check for open stores in your area) or call customer care at 1.800.922.0204.
