This is unrelated but I am wondering if anyone had some input on a purchase I want to make. I have my kohls online cart full of baby clothes from newborn to 24 months. Trying to be prepared for a future baby. And my cart is at a total number of 162 items for around 800 dollars. Including discounts for kohls. Is this a good price for a whole bunch of items? This is my first and I want to know I am getting a good deal. I just don’t have anyone to let me know. It is filled with socks to different types of clothing. I got all clothes for either a boy or a girl. I thought I would reuse with each child. I also did want everything new. Since I would be using it for multiple babies is that a good deal? Around 800 dollars for over 160 items? Thank you a lot if anyone responds!

Personally, I wouldn’t buy in advance that many items. So many people give gifts of baby clothes. Plus, with the short amount of time baby fits in items you need to have warm clothes sometimes, you’d want to have that available at the right size. Plus, there’s always deals to be had on baby clothes. I’d be more apt to grab a great deal on a pack and play or stroller, but only if I was currently pregnant. Good luck. 🙂

I think $800 for 160 items seems a little high – and I agree with everything Melissa said! I ended up with so many items that my son never wore because he was born much bigger than I expected. And, you’ll end up liking/not liking certain things and therefore wearing some clothes more than others (i.e. there are some socks that are too thick to fit well in his shoes so we never use those and I ended up buying the same style/print onesie in each size as he grew because I loved it so much, etc.).

It depends on what you get. If it’s mostly onesies or tshirts, you can normally find deals on them where they’re only maybe $2 each. Fancy outfits are going to be more. I just bought some special occasion dresses for my daughter from Kohl’s for $5 each. Going gender neutral is a VERY smart idea. We had a daughter first then just had a son. We got all gender neutral equipment in the beginning and I mostly buy gender neutral clothing… and I’m glad we did. But when friends and family buy stuff, especially for a girl, it’s usually very polarized gender-wise. And people LOVE buying super girlie clothes, apparently. 😣 I have 2 suggestions for you… as tempting as it is, I wouldn’t buy that much early on. I have virtually no family, so I wasn’t expecting a lot of gifts. But we had people I didn’t even know (friends of my mom’s, husband’s coworkers, etc) giving us gifts of clothing! I’d wait to see what gifts you get and then fill in with purchases. My second suggestion is to buy the book Baby Bargains. I don’t agree with everything it suggested, but it gives a lot of tips for first-time parents so they don’t overspend. Everything baby-related nowadays is marketed as a “must-have” and that’s definitely not the case!

      When are you due?

    • Lisa

I wouldn’t go so far in advance with sizes. You don’t know if your going to have a chunky monkey or a little peanut. I agree with ladies on the price. It does seem high.

      • Laurie

Yup! I had 2 10 lb boys! Couldn’t stock up on tiny diapers – I would wait

    • sara

Thats ALOT! I do not that is a deal. I am off for stockpiling clothing for the next season. I have to fast growing boys. I have stockpiled the next two season and the next two sizes. I shop second hand stores, resale groups, Children’s Place and Gymboree clearance with free shipping, Kohl’s in-store only 70%-80% off racks with an extra 30% off coupons, if your new mom you’re going to find other mom friends who may have children older than yours that will give you handy Downs, and you’ll be surprised at how many friends and family members will just happen to pick up a piece here or there well shopping. If you’re going to stockpile anything I would suggest, diapers. You can always find name-brand great looking clothing at a fraction of a price if you’re willing to look for it.

You definitely won’t want to do that. My son was born 7lbs but grew SO FAST that he was always wearing 3 months larger than his age. I got a number of gifts & bought a few things but he grew out of the sizes so fast that he didn’t get to wear them much. Others ended up being the wrong size for the season. You will find out what you like & what baby likes. For example, my kids wore gowns for the first few weeks because it was just easier than snaps & pants, etc.

    • Jenn

That seems expensive to me for newborn to 24 months. It also seems like a lot of pieces, but they do grow so quickly in that span of time. If you don’t have a hang up about buying second hand, I would 100% recommend resale sites like swap.com and thredup. I just ordered 22 pieces for my kids for $62 total, and the order included all name brand (Gap, Gymboree, Mini Boden, Crewcuts, and Carters) winter clothes, including two coats, multiple 5t sweatshirts, sweaters, and jeans for my daughter, as well as a few 18 month pieces for my son, all in good or better condition. You can save a bundle buying second hand! I buy new onesie, socks, and undies, and I buy new when it’s a great deal or something new I can’t pass up, but otherwise i really try to buy used. Also check for local second hand sales like Rhea Lana, in my area they have events twice a year. I got a $600 Britax stroller at the last sale for $30, and new Stride Rite shoes for $2.50. Good luck!

      • Lisa

There are a ton of resales in my area that I’ve gotten clothes from, some with tags still on! The total seems like a lot, & im not 100% sure about Kohl’s return policy. I personally love Carter’s because as long as tags are still on & you have the receipt, you can return whenever, even if it’s a year or more old. They have great sales too.

    • Nadia Bernhard

That is way to high for that many clothes. I love Kohls you purchase with a sale price and then a 30% and free shipping plus it’s a bonus and I wait till we get $10 back on 50. I have 5 girls and I always buy ahead of time. Yes, there may be some clothes you don’t use keep the tags on and you can give those away as baby shower or gifts in the future. After having so many I go to thrift stores for babies to get clothes some of them even have tags still on them. I was able to score about that many clothes for $150 at Once Upon a Child. It had Gymboree, Tommy Hilfiger, polo, Kate Spade, clothes from Justice, childrens place, target, etc. it was crazy good deals I wait for and then stock up on and splurge.

    • Laurie

My first was a BIG boy! He was in 24 month in no time – wait. You never know what size you’ll have ( doctors aren’t always correct) and you don’t know how they’ll grow

Photo has Amazon boxes but this is a Target deal, right? Maybe that means both Amazon and Target have this deal…..??

    • Elaine

I think the pic with the amazon boxes is just to showcase that she owns the mat.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn! Sorry to hear these mats had stained your concrete! It appears those from Home Depot have gone up in price now as I click through.

      • Pretygirlygirl

Are you sure? I just paid $6.88 free shipping for mine a minute ago

      • Missy

        $6.88 for me. Thanks!

  3. eyez

On my rug order shipping is free but there’s a $20 handling fee : (

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn! I am not finding a handling fee. Are you able to opt for in store pick up?

      • eyez

No. Delivery only : (. I don’t want to order due to that fee.

      • eyez

Just noticed the handling fee is only on the 8×10 which is what I want

  4. Mindy

Thanks Collin! I have the same mat as you, have for at least a year, and it’s held up great! I’m going to grab another to put back for later. Appreciate y’all!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Oh awesome! You’re welcome Mindy!
