Hi there! It’s Mary, one of Collin’s Sidekicks!

A couple Christmases ago, I asked Santa for a fitness tracker so that I could get better about tracking my daily activity. At the time, I hadn’t really done much research and wasn’t even sure if I wanted a FitBit or an Apple Watch, but to my surprise, I ended up receiving both items for Christmas that year!

Which one did I keep?

I decided to keep the Apple Watch and return the FitBit as it had many more options – and I am SO glad I did!

Now it’s years later, and I am still in love with my Apple Watch… it has been a game changer in my fitness journey! My hubby bought me the Series 1 Sport version with the simple black sport band, and even though the Apple Watch Series 3 will be released soon (umm – it looks amazing! 😱), my little black watch is still chugging along great and serves me well. Why upgrade if it ain’t broke, right?!

(My older sister & I before running a half marathon in Houston!)

I love to run and am training for a half marathon in January, so I personally love this watch for my daily runs, tracking my heart rate and movement, reminding me to get up and walk around, the built-in workout app, the step counter, the health app (can use on iPhone to track monthly progress) and so much MORE! I previously used a Garmin Forerunner 220 during runs, but haven’t looked back since!

Plus, I love being able to stay on top of my text messages and app notifications, even when my phone is somewhere else in the house or if I forget to turn it off silent (whoops – that happens often!).

With the convenient notifications, I can get alerted whenever I receive a text message or phone call, whenever someone comments on my Instagram page, whenever someone is at my front door (via the Ring Doorbell app), whenever there’s an important news alert… the list goes on!

If you’re on the fence about an Apple Watch and/or wandering what features are in these watches OR if you should ask Santa for an Apple Watch this year, let me just tell you right now! ๐Ÿ˜€ They are awesome! And, as you can see, I don’t go often without my watch and hate not wearing it (but maybe I should try to work on that watch tan though? 😂 ).

I LOVE my apple watch as well. I don’t often ask for big gifts but this was one I really wanted and I don’t regret the money either. I sold my fitbit and a few other things so the cost wasn’t such a big hit to us. <3

  2. Love Deals

I got apple watch series 2 in august from target on sale .. and i love it. I am wearing it everyday day and absolutely in love with this watch .

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Glad to hear that! The Series 2 looks awesome too!

An Apple Watch wouldn’t be able to replace your iPhone for Podcasts or music while exercising would it? Would you use wireless earbuds if it could? Sorry if silly questions! I’ve just started walking for exercise and my iPhone 6 Plus is pretty cumbersome (especially when not wearing pockets), but I like tracking my distance and time with Map My Walk while listening to podcasts. I hate the feel of a watch on my wrist, but if it could provide everything I need on a walk, then I’d definitely consider one!

You are able to download a selection of music to your watch that you can listen to when your phone is not around. Yes, you need wireless earbuds (the apple ones are awesome) to listen.

    • Kami W

The new Apple Watch Series 3 will be able to work independently from the phone. It will get cell service and you can listen to music through wireless earbuds. For the 1 and 2 you have to carry your phone with you in order to have it be more than just a digital pedometer.

      • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

The Series 3 looks amazing! ๐Ÿ˜

I’m on the prowl for an Apple Watch (1 or 2). What kind of deal should I hold out for?

    • Kathy

      This is a great question!!

    • CJ

I got my series 1 (38mm) for around $179 during the Macy’s black Friday sale last year. I think it was on sale for $199 & then I got 12% cashback through ebates. One thing I’d recommend is getting a screen protector right away. I didn’t & mine has several small scratches on the screen.

Wow you read my mind, was just wondering why I see that on everyone’s wrist these days

My husband asked for the fitbit surge last year for Christmas and hes used it Everyday since he opened it he LOVES it!
It has helped him soo much hes lost over 50lbs keeping track of his steps and making goals for himself! The Best investment EVER! Im thinking of putting that on my list this year ๐Ÿ˜Š

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Wow – that is SO awesome! Tell him way to go! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Wifeandmomof3

I love my Fitbit surge. It really is motivation.

      • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

So glad you like yours! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

I got the fitbit blaze recently and I love it. I do not need all the fancy things that an apple watch comes with. The blaze allows you to look at text messages calls but will not let you send messages back from it. A lot cheaper too!

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Glad you like yours KK! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Pam

I wonder when those features will be available on my tracfone…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Babs

I used the Jawbone UP fitness band with my tracfone, it was an android J5 phone. It only did steps, activity and sleep tracking but it was great! The app didn’t take up a lot of space on my phone and I could sync it wirelessly when I was on wifi.

True the rest of the bells and whistles of the apple watch would be nice but it’s more dependent on the phone model than the tracphone service.

  9. Kathy

    That looks like Cy Woods!

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      Nailed it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Tp

I have definitely and I phone and Mac girl
    However I have
not been able to figure out my watch
I’ve had my watch for almost a year now and I don’t see what’s so great about it
I really need to sit down with someone for a couple hours and figure out how to work this thing

    • Elaine

The Apple Store can help as well. Just go at slow times so there are staff available.

    • Emilia

YouTube and you will find several tutorials. It really helped me navigate through my watch being super familiar with it.

I have both an Apple Watch 1 series and I have 2 Fitbits. I honestly wear my Fitbit every day! I love it so much! I had the Charge and now I have the Charge 2 and the Flex 2 for swimming and the beach. My husband on the other hand loves his Apple Watch 2 series. He wears his every day. He had a Fitbit and returned it. So I guess to each his own and what they like in a watch or fitness tracker. The new Apple Watch 3 series looks so cool! I may have to get it lol. For comparison, I wore my Apple Watch on one arm and the Fitbit on the other arm and the Fitbit was more accurate. But I still like both for different reasons.

  12. Thehenrydthoreau

I had the Fitbit Surge and it died one day. I paid $7 for a Jawbone up. I walk everywhere and participate in 5k’s. It is all I need. No need to complicate things.

  13. naa

It’s just so expensive. Hope to get a really good deal

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      Hopefully they’ll have one soon!!

  14. Sarah

I had mine for almost 3 years now and I love it! I don’t even ever wear my fancy watches anymore. I don’t miss any calls or messages from my hubby or my kids. Even remind me to take a breathing exercise ๐Ÿ˜‚ Should I upgrade? Naaahh..I’ll wait until it’s broken.

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

LOL I’m with ya Sarah! ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Jess

This website is usually so good at helping me save money, then Tuesdays come around and I want whatever the awesome item of the week is! Thanks for everything y’all do!

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      LOL sorry Jess! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Hilary

Love my Apple watch! Even bought my husband and daughter one.

  17. deb

what do you recommend for a 10 yr old without spending a fortune?

  18. Luv ๐ŸŒบ

I received the series 2 as a birthday gift from my hubby 3 months ago. I do like it but it’s not always accurate. Also how do you get it to show/count your steps? Mine only shows the calories but I’d like to know the number of steps taken. ๐ŸŒบ

  19. Pam

How about finding us a good deal on this watch.
