It’s SO weird seeing this here…. bc I live right down the road from them lol

    • a. rich

So I have to know are they genuinely good people as they appear on tv?

      • Lauren

I don’t “know” them- I’m a couple miles down the highway we live off of- I did used to wait tables and waited on Chip and I think his dad and son on Saturdays before the show started- he was a real nice guy- she came in once with them and was nice but a little more to herself than him

        • Coco

          So they good people!!
They made a wise decision to pull them out from the TV shows! They know they have to keep the family first!! I loved to hear they sometimes talk about God in the show! As long as they are pleasing God in any ways I believe they will be successful!!

          • Becky

That is so true Coco! More people need to stand up and put God first.

          • faith

So true! I wish America as a whole would get back pleasing God with their choices!

  2. Cheryl

    My favorite couple ever!

  3. Aleshia

I personally think it is great. I would hate to see another great couple fall apart due to publicity. They seem like a great couple and it was a good show, but if leaving it makes them happy and they get to focus on their family than I am happy for them!

    • Happymama

      Yes! Exactly

    • Julie

      Absolutely agree. 😊

    • riss

      I agree!

  4. Qgirlfriend

😢My favorite show…I will miss it! Guess I’ll have to make a trip to Waco to visit the silos. 😉

  5. ashley

I’m glad they are ending the show. I have a friend that got to meet them and the amount of publicity they have received is insane. People hanging out in their yards, having to take the kids out of public schools. All because we can’t control ourselves and have to be psychoticly obsessed with them. I wish nothing but the best for them!

  6. Bryant

I actually enjoy this show very much. They are the only married couple on HGTV I can stomach and all of their kids are adorable. I believe there is more to the story. Their ratings are simply too good for them to vanish from network television. Chip and Joanna are huge stars at this point – they must have something major in the works! I wish them luck.

    • joy

You bet!! There’s got to be more. I imagine they’ve run up against something they just can’t stand for and are therefore bowing out. They seem to have integrity and character.

  7. Mourrene

Disappointing to hear but totally understandable for the good of their family. Just discovered them over the summer and they seemed like really good guys. Wishing them all the best.

  8. Lisa

I absolutely despised this show and had to quickly change the channel when they were on. They came across as too goody-goody and cutesy. Joanna was all about the camera and she staged so much of what she said. I couldn’t be more pleased that this is their last season! Good riddance!

    • Chris9176

I agree with you! I could never watch the show once I found out they remove all the furniture from the homes once filming ends. It just seemed so disingenuous. Other shows either budget for furniture or they’re upfront about the furniture just being for staging purposes.

      • Renee

The couple purchasing the home and having it renovated know this in advance and have the option to purchase the items when all is said and done.

      • llc

On American Pickers, almost everything is staged. They don’t actually travel in that van. They have generic scenes filmed in the van to use for the show. Both guys have their own makeup trailers. All items “found” have been discovered before hand and prices negotiated before filming. Fake, Fake, Fake.

    • Renee

How sad that people who maybe actually good people are perceived as goody-goody. What is wrong with being goody-goody? Do you want then to be bad people? I truly don’t understand your comment.

      • Lisa

I mean they have the perception of good-goody. I don’t believe that is who they are in real life. They play a part for TV and they are disingenuous

        • Deanna

How would you know how they really are? Why not believe they are good people? Is this what we’ve come to?

          • Sandi

Well said Deanna!!!! I do believe they are good people and that is why they are bowing out. They have 4 wonderful children that this has to be affecting. You see all kinds of trashy things being said about them online. Some people Just have to try and bring decent people down???????

        • Belinda

I am from Waco and I believe Chip and Joana to be genuinely good people. I am also a fan of their show. I am not a fan of their merchandise or the silos, bc I find it overpriced and overrated. I have been to the silos and don’t understand why people go crazy over the place. However, I think it is awesome how they have made a name for theirselves. To say you despise their show, bc you perceive them to be something other than what they show on tv is laughable. I know their son played ball at the same little league fields that my daughters do, which is in Waco and not on the outside where people like to flock to just bc they think it will make their children better. Through everything they have stayed in touch with who they are and where they are from. This speaks volumes to their character. I have relatives that work for them at their warehouse and say nothing but good things about them and how well they treat their associates.

          • cath

They don’t seem ‘goody goody;’ they seem normal to me. Pretty much like many people I know with good marriages and good children. Not perfect, but good families who have fun together. I kind of don’t get why that doesn’t seem real….

    • Mary

    • Darcie

I think there is a lot of “staging” what is said on most reality shows, it’s definitely not just her. I’ve always thought that was something so strange about reality tv- it’s rarely pure reality. If you had a recurring show, don’t you think you’d take the time to consider what types of things you would say beforehand?

  9. Linda

I’m wondering if it’s weird that I’ve never watched their show.

    • Shannon

I hadn’t watched it until about a month ago because I don’t have cable and they just recently added the show to Hulu. I like them and the farmhouse style although I think it’s a bit weird to do that style if you live in some big city condo or whatever. To me I still love the decor of tv shows like modern family!

      • Laurie

I too liked the show – but every house decorated in the same farmhouse decor gets a bit old. It’s not everyone’s style.

    • Kimmy

      Me neither lol

  10. Jen

What’s going to happen to shiplap fad?! You can’t leave us!

  11. Steph-B

Bittersweet – I will defiantly miss the show! So happy they are choosing to put family first💕

  12. lily

Im sad its ending but im kind of glad after hearing many of the people featured on the show were selling their houses for incredibly high prices just for the fact that it was on the show. Or renting it through airbnb. They were not genuine in wanting to owning a house chip and jo made just for them. Just looking for a quick buck. My opinion at least.

    • Amy

I’m guessing that diehard fans won’t let people enjoy their new homes which is why they either rent or sell the property. Photo opportunities, ringing the door bell to get a glimpse of the inside etc…. I would get out also, who would want all the attention?

  13. priscilla

I’m going to miss their show too. I always wondered about the furniture/decor stuff and didn’t know it was all staging. I know on Flip or Flop they actually state they are staging the houses but I thought on Fixer Upper that it stayed with the house. I also hadn’t heard any stuff about people selling their houses afterwards. A lot of them say they hope they never have to move. Guess everything is not a ‘real’ as it seems.

  14. Julie

I’m sadthe show is ending. It was my favorite Hgtv show. The network is taking some hits in losing some favorites this year. All of those shows are staged. House hunters only will work with you once you have closed on your house so the other two properties are just totally fake. My friend was working with them and that was a requirement but his closing didn’t work out the week they were in town to film here in the state. So it’s all fake too.

    • Rebecca

    • Deb

I heard the exact same thing from my son’s friend who was contacted to be on the show. He had already purchased a house. That’s when I learned it was all fake.

      • Elizabeth M

        Same for Island Life

        • Gina

          Same as “Extreme cuoponing”

    • Renee

It’s the same with Fixer Upper. They always show 3 houses for the couple to choose but in reality to be chosen for the show you have to already have a house under contract. So each episode shows the house the clients already bought and two fake ones.

  15. Gracie A Watson

I’m sad for myself, but happy for Chip, No and their children. I love this family to life. They are good at what they do and if I ever have a house to remodel; they would be the first people I would contact. So God bless the Gaines family in all your endeavors. Take care of your awesome children and each other. Hope we get to see you all now and then on the television.

    • Gracie A Watson

Sorry in My comment of course I meant Jo not No.

  16. Elizabeth M

I really enjoyed them and the show. Even if the houses were already selected and the furniture only stays if the purchased, I enjoy watching the renovations, the ideas and the possibilities. Gives me hope for my home, lol!!!
