Angela’s Best Friend In A Bottle (Say Goodbye To Carpet Stains)
I’ve been using Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover for years and love it!
Do you have a product you love? We definitely have many favorite products here on the Hip2Save Team, and thought it would be FUN to share some of them with you! I personally love product recommendations and I’ve also had a few requests from readers, so I have asked each member of the team to think of products they love (cosmetics, kitchen gadgets etc.) and to write up a post to share with you.
Hey y’all! It’s Angela, one of Collin’s Sidekicks!
My teenage daughter is a crafter, painter, DIYer, and with that comes lots of MESSES! Not to mention her love of makeup, nail polish, and glitter, which often spells disaster for her bedroom carpet.
About ten years ago, a friend introduced me to Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover and I haven’t looked back. If you have pets, little kids, big kids, a messy spouse, and as a result have stubborn carpet stains, then this spot remover will be your new BFF!
Now, let me preface this glowing review to say I completely understand there are probably more natural alternatives out there, however, this is what works best for me. Folex is non-toxic, non-irritating to normal skin, non-flammable, contains no solvents of any kind, it is odor-free, and is CFC and Petroleum free. It’s also non-magnetic, so the stain won’t reappear after you’ve removed it.
All you have to do is spray the spot a couple of times with Folex, then use your fingers (or wear gloves if you want), and rub the liquid into your stain. Then take a rag or an old towel – just be sure to choose something that won’t bleed color, and rub the stain several times. I kid you not, it disappears like magic!
Please note, with any carpet cleaners it’s always wise to test a small hidden area of your carpet to be sure that it does not discolor it in any way.
As you can see from the photos above, I was able to quickly get out the blue paint stains from our carpet in no time at all (the darker area is just the shadow from a bed, not a stain 😉).
I typically buy a 32oz spray bottle of Folex from Lowe’s for around $5.98, and trust me, a little goes a long way!
It’s such a lifesaver with pet accidents too – like when your cat is on the tile, then is about to get sick and runs to the carpet to puke, gee thanks cat! 🐱

Found out about this stuff when we were actually overseas in Japan for the military. This stuff is amazing. I use it for everything, laundry, carpet, upholstery, etc. It takes out everything. Sadly, I haven’t been able to find it in my local area. Will keep looking though.
It’s available on amazon
You are my favorite person today 🙂 thank you!
When buying from Amazon, I suggest getting the two pack as it’s cheaper per bottle than just buying one! http://amzn.to/2xQEaWa
I find it at Home Depot!
I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!!!!!!
Curious how well this combats set in stains? I have a two-year old stain that I’ve tried everything to get rid of. Does this only work on “newer” stains?
It got a stain out of my carpet that had been there for 3+ years! I don’t even know that it was (maybe grease) and now you can’t even tell. This is the best stuff!
-Jessica
It works just as well I find! My daughter seems to forget to tell me when she’s dropped something on the carpet. The stains in the photos above have apparently been there “a while” according to her. She was hiding them under her clutter.
I second this post! Discovered Folex for a few years ago and this is the only stain remover we use for carpet and upholstery. We bought ours at Bed Bath and Beyond
Yes! Bed, Bath & Beyond is my next go to when Home Depot is out. As a last resort I order from Amazon, it’s just a little pricier there, but I don’t have to go out searching for it.
Fabulous product. Cleaned up a whole bottle of red wine that broken on our new carpet. We buy at Bed Bath and Beyond 4 bottles at a time.
Gail
Wow that’s impressive! Red Wine is for sure hard to get out, Folex for the win!
This is the same stuff “Wine Away” is! I used it at a winery I worked for when we spilled wine on our clothing. Much less expensive than Wine Away too! 🙂
LOVE it!! We have two little ones and also board dogs, so this stuff is a lifesaver
This is the best carpet/upholstery cleaner EVER!
Anyone use on big pet stains? We had 2 dogs get sick 2 days after having carpets professionally cleaned and nothing has gotten the mess out!
Hi Maggie, I have used this on pet stains before and it’s worked for me, however they weren’t major. Love this stuff!!!! If this doesn’t do the trick you could always try hydrogen peroxide, just be sure to test a small unobtrusive area first. Hope this Helps:)
Thank you it’s worth a try!!
With three kids and a dog I buy this by the gallon at lowe’s.
Same here Christine. Love this stuff!
We also buy this by the gallon. I occasionally use it on laundry too. It takes out red/orange (Gatorade/pop).
I wonder if it would work on my countertop. I have a red koolaid stain on there that the magic eraser won’t even get rid of.
Try toothpaste! It’s amazing what toothpaste gets out!
I bought some at Lowe’s a couple years ago but I don’t know if they still sell it. I lovevit so much that I buy the gallon now!!!
In my area…southwest Florida…you can find it at Lowe’s.
Daughter has been suffering from nose bleeds lately. This stuff takes blood stains right out!!!
Wow thanks!! Getting some asap! Our new house has a combined carpeting living room/dining room. Need this to get by until we can take up
The carpet!!
Oh awesome! Hope it does the trick for you!
Any idea how it works on car upholstery?
Works great on car upholstery!
Following
I’ve used it on my seats before with great results but I have never used it on the floor mats!
LOVE THIS STUFF!!!! I spilt a Rt. 44 strawberry slush on cream colored carpet and it got it all out. I have 3 little ones and inside dog and I use it on everything, especially laundry even on set in stains. I buy it by the gallon at Lowes and tell everyone about it!
That is a true test – getting a Route 44 RED drink out of cream colored carpet! So amazing! I feel like I could go door to door selling this product for them. 🤣
Would it work on laundry stains?
Hi Holly! It’s been a while since I’ve used it on laundry stains but it did the trick. Just be sure to test it in a small corner of the fabric first – especially if it’s a colorful item!
Does it smell like chemicals?
No it really doesn’t and I have a sensitive nose!
How about dried nail polish on the couch?
I’ve used it to get nail polish off of carpeting, but have luckily not had to try it on my couch!
Would it work on a microfiber couch to get water stains out? Our couch is ruined by them. Thanks in advance.
Have you tried spraying rubbing alcohol on your microfiber couch? I’ve used alcohol on our couches for years. I just put the sprayer directly on the bottle of rubbing alcohol, spray generously and rub with a white cloth. Once completely dry I go over it again with a clean, dry white cloth to kind of fluff it back up. It doesn’t leave water stains but I don’t know if it specifically removes them. We’ve had both light and dark colored couches and it’s cleaned both perfectly. As with anything, be sure to test it first. Good luck!
Thank you. I will try doing that.
Take the covers off and just wash them inside out with no soap. Water only then air dry. Works perfectly!!!
Hmm, I’ve never used it for water stains, that’s a good question!
This stuff is great. When we bought our house the previous owner had left a bottle of this under the sink. We had a spot and said hey lets try it. Magical. We have kept a bottle on hand since.
Our cat ALWAYS pukes on the carpet instead of the tile, linoleum, or wood floor! So annoying. Thanks so much for the recommendation. We recently moved into an apartment that formerly had dogs so there are some existing stains I would love to attempt to get rid of.
Oh Ginger I feel your pain! My cats must do it on purpose because it never fails!
You’ve all convinced me. I’m buying some to try on a grease stain! 2 years ago hubby knocked over a deep fryer that HE put in our carpeted dining room lol.
This stuff is amazing!! We were considering investing in expensive Stainmaster carpet when we bought our new home this summer, until a very honest Home Depot employee urged us to just buy this instead. It works wonders.
this stuff is amazing for any fabric not just carpet cleaning. I use for vintage clothing that has stains. takes it right out!
Love this carpet remover!! Works on absolutely everything.
Does this remove pet smells as well ? I have a cat that urinated in my car and I’m trying to remove the smell but I’m having no luck .
Love this stuff! Lowe’s usually has it!
Thank you for this! My son had one of those cheap Halloween toys a few years ago that you squeeze & the “brain” pops out the top. Well he decided it’d be a good idea to stomp on it & it busted all over his carpet, red dye that I’ve tried everything else to get out. Fingers crossed that this will work!
Does anyone have a miracle at removing ink pen from walls? I tried magic eraser already. TIA
Did you try plain rubbing alcohol?
I buy this by the gallon at home depot and use it in my carpet cleaning machine instead of carpet cleaner. I t works great
How do you use it in your carpet machine? Do you have to dilute it?
How about ink on a pair of pants?
I have had success with spraying hairspray on my ink stains.
Been using this stuff for years! Works excellent!
Thanks for posting this! Running to get a bottle ASAP!!!!
Folex is miraculous!!
Anyone used it on stored baby clothing that has yellowed? I’d love to revive some sweet outfits that are headed for the trash currently.
I’d love to know tricks for this specifically as well!
i had this issue — stored baby clothes that looked perfectly clean when i put them away, pull them out years later and yellowed all over. i tried MANY cleaners and internet suggestions. the ONLY thing i found that worked was Oxi White Revive. i tested it for a survey company and it was miraculous! good luck.
Wow … thanks so much for reviews!
I buy this by the gallon on Amazon & wait until I can get it for about $20 with prime shipping. It works on blood, chocolate, and wine!!! I’m absolutely in LOVE!
Yes! This stuff is awesome! I also spray this on carpet with Nature’s miracle for any pet accidents. Smell and stains always gone!
I’ve used this cleaner for YEARS. I’m talking a good 10 years. It got blood stains off my couches from my dog being in heat when she was a puppy. I’ve used it on the carpet. I’ve used it on the mattress. I’ve used it in the car when my dog has gone #2 on the way to the groomer and stepped all over it and smeared it all over the back seats. I have pictures. It is miraculous. It has never damaged the coloring of any fabric I’ve ever uses it on. We always have it in stock at home.
That’s awesome Erika!
I went to Home Depot and bought this today and used it one of the worst spots on our living room carpet and it seriously took it right off!!!! I should’ve done a before and after picture. I’m going to go back and buy the gallon now. THANK YOU FOR THIS RECOMMENDATION!!
