Glad to see they are closed, I think everyone should be closed on Thanksgiving. 😊

    • Judy

I am too and wish they would all be closed.

      • Laura

Same here, should be a time to enjoy dinner with family and friends

  2. David

Great! Now all of their employees can enjoy the day with their families.

  3. Jess

I’m shocked to see some places are closed Black Friday too.

  4. Tonya

Good for the employees and their families.

  5. Debbie

Great. Happy they can spend Thanksgiving with their families.

  6. lily

Silly question but what about the babies r us that are connected to toys r us. Not thay im going just thought it was funny that one was on the list and not the other

    • silverfanatic

I thought the same thing! I assume they are still open because they are inside the Toys R Us…so they get to look good on paper but really they are open.

  7. Laurie

I would LOVE to see more BIG stores closed – baby steps I guess…

  8. riss

Yay to stores that are closed on Thanksgiving day! Groceries, I can understand that they’d be open in the morning, but I hope they close in the afternoon to let employees spend time with their families.

  9. Valerie

Wish prisons were closed too lol so all my partners can spend thanksgiving with their families.

    • Bee

Hope you meant co-workers and not inmates lol

    • Melissa

My husband does this all the time! He’s a corrections officer, and we’ll be out… he’ll mention “… at the prison” and suddenly people will be looking at us all side eyed! I’m like “… where you work at! as an officer!” lol My husband and I are young and without kids though, so he always gives holidays to his switch partner who does have kids. We can celebrate holidays another day, but his switch partner has kiddos so we like to see them spend the holidays together. 🙂

      • Katie

Thanks to you and your husband for doing that! As a wife of a husband that works in law enforcement with kids, it is so appreciative! My husband works with so many people that don’t have kids, but they will never switch with him so he can spend the holidays with his kids. Thanks again!!

      • Amy

Love to hear that…so kind of you both!

      • Amy

Yes, a HUGE thanks to you and your husband both! My husband works at our county jail and has to work almost every holiday. Our boys and I miss him sorely, but do our best to celebrate on ‘other’ days. What a gift you’re giving in allowing a daddy to be with his kiddos and build sweet memories. I hope somebody pays it back to you someday. Blessings to you!

    • Cassie

Same. I’m a nurse so I never have holidays off. Illness has no holidays.

      • Deb

My son is a nurse also. This is the first time in 6 years he will be able to spend Thanksgiving with his wife and 2 little ones. I’m so happy for them.

    • Julianne

You’re rude as hell! His working partner. You’re quite judgmental.

  10. tia in boise

At this time of year, I think: yah, that’s great for the people who have families to spend time with. What about those that don’t? What about those folks who would LIKE to be at work and earn holiday pay because they could use the money? Just a thought…

    • NV

Opening on Thanksgiving Day is a relatively new practice for mainstream retailers. I’m sure some would like to work, but I’m also sure many would like overtime and time and a half at the holiday season… also not guaranteed. KWIM? Everyone I know in retail loathes Thanksgiving day openings.

    • Susan

Well if you work at Walmart, you don’t even get holiday pay and still work a crappy job.

      • Tiggy

At least Target pays time and a half on Thanksgiving and certain times of day also pay a $1 shift differential. Not working on TGiving is ideal, but at least the employees are paid better to be there.

  11. Misti

This is wonderful! All retailers should close to allow employees to enjoy the holiday.

  12. NV

This makes me so happy! Wish they ALL would close so people could choose to celebrate Thanksgiving with loved ones (or however/wherever) if they wish!

  13. Laura

Target and Walmart are notably NOT closed 😕

    • Julianne

  14. Vanessa

Love this!! Awesome for everyone to be with family. I wish nothing was open that day.

  15. jennifer

So happy to hear this . I work retail and the sales are the same as if you went the day before or after thanksgiving .The sales aren’t really great to be honest

  16. Nan

I’ll bet you can still order off of their websites on Thanksgiving though…so potentially customer service and warehouse/order fulfillment employees will need to work, even though their stores are closed.

    • Tiggy

Target employees that work SFS ships orders to your home at the store level) are working ALL day and ALL night at Target.

  17. Evan

H-E-B is only closed Christmas & Easter! We open on Thanksgiving for a few hrs & only partners that SIGN up to work, come in. It’s a 1st come, 1st serve sign up system. We also serve meals to those that work that day & ALL partners are given turkey coupons prior so you can have it, give away or donate it for the holiday season.

    • Kay

Love H•E•B! They are a wonderful place to shop at. I feel like they value the employees. Everyone I’ve come across who works for them seems pretty content!

  18. Shannon

Thank goodness! I hope more stores follow suit.

  19. Stacy

A little off topic but does anyone know what kind of sales TJmaxx has for Black Friday?

    • Andrea

Nothing, TJMaxx/Marshall’s/Ross never have Black Friday sales 😞

      • pokz

Haha..yeah..stupid people going to them on black fri thinking theyll save…haha!!..its the same price evryday

    • JA

No sales but I did stop one year and get a free holiday reusable shopping bag. It is really nice. Not sure if they always do that or not.

  20. Kandyce

This is great. I think its completely ridiculous that employees are forced to work on a holiday just to promote Black Friday Deals.

  21. Natalie Masse

Thank you to those stores that are closed. I will see you on Friday!! The others I will not patronage.

  22. ResseCup

Wish Walmart and Target were closed so I could have time to actually eat thanksgiving dinner. As a shopper, since it’s so early, I have to put some dressing, gravy and cornbread in my pocket and go shopping.

    • Chrissy

Lol me too! I’ve been a Black Friday shopper for years and I really wish it would go back to being on Friday!! I hate that I “have to” rush through dinner to get to the stores when they open 😩

    • Melissa Hanna

You don’t have to. I have loved Black Friday for as long as I can remember and I refuse to shop on Thursday as tempting as it is. If we all refused to shop on Thanksgiving and held off until Friday they would stop doing it.

  23. Renee

This is so great to see. Hopefully this list will grow each year. Family first!

  24. Rocky

It is a little bit of an improvement but the stores will still have Black Friday sales the next day at a ridiculous early time so either way a lot of the employees will be forced to have an early turkey dinner so that they can go to sleep early to wake up early for work the next day.

    • Brittany C

This is my thought exactly. Sure, they may be closed on Thanksgiving Day but chances are some are opening at midnight so employees will have to be in on Thanksgiving anyways.

  25. Ash

It’s funny when people complain about stores being open and people can’t be with their families. Honestly they wouldn’t be open if people didn’t show up to shop.

    • Melissa Hanna

Exactly. I can’t handle people complaining that they have to eat early so they can shop 🙄

  26. M

    This post made me 😍
    Happy for the hardworking employees.

  27. Melissa

It is great to see the pendulum swinging back the other way.

  28. Football Mom

We don’t celebrate thanksgiving in the traditional sit down dinner type of way. We spend our Thanksgivings in Vegas paying in a football tournament. And if we can get some shopping in while we are there we will. But if they won’t be open that’s fine too. No big.

  29. Ida

I’m so glad to see stores are closing for Thanksgiving! Black Friday should start on Friday!! And everyone needs a day to spend with friends and family.

  30. Des

Every year I hope Best Buy is closed on thanksgiving and every year my fiancé works. Even though they don’t open until 5pm, workers have to be there earlier to finish setting up and prepping. So there’s no chance of eating an early dinner with family. Yes they pay well for working on the holiday but I’m sure some people would rather spend time with family they haven’t seen all year.

  31. Lauren

Thanks for posting. This is a step in the right direction!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Lauren!
