Fresh meals delivered to my doorstep? Yes, please!

Home Chef offers chef-prepared recipes with all the fresh ingredients and step-by-step instructions delivered to your door each week (or the door of a loved one!). You’ll receive everything from the protein and veggies right down to details like walnuts, parsley, and tahini-lemon dressing!

How does it work?

Home Chef carefully packages all of the fresh ingredients into insulated liners & cold packs so they’ll remain cold & fresh until you unpack it at home. Once your box arrives, just transfer the contents of the box to the refrigerator and your ingredients will remain fresh for the week, so you can enjoy fresh meals, usually in 30-minutes!

You’ll even have the chance to note your Dietary and Delivery Preferences (including gluten-free, low carb, and vegetarian meals to name a few), how many meals you’d like to cook each week (choose between 2-6 meals) and how many people you’re cooking for (choose between 2-5 people).

Even sweeter, Hip2Save readers can currently score $30 off your first order when you head on over here and apply the code 30DINE at checkout! Just click on the Get Started button and complete your Profile.

So, what’s the catch?

When you use the code 30DINE (or any of the other codes listed above) to try Home Chef, you’ll be automatically signed up for weekly meal delivery. Here’s what Hip2Save readers have to say about Home Chef…

Home Chef is by far the best home meal service. We get 3 meals for 2 people almost very week. They have a large variety of meals and shipping is free when you order over $50. Each serving typically runs $9.95 and is well worth it for steak, shrimp, etc.

We have tried several, and Home Chef is our favorite. They always have the best selection and their food is consistently delicious. I like to order it when my husband is out of town – the 2 person meals feed me and my 2 kids (8 and 10) very well. The kids enjoy helping me make them 🙂

This is totally worth it for the cuts of meat and no wastefulness. I’m just an okay cook so I usually shy away from meats like steak, pork, and fish because I often do it wrong and it’s barely edible. Or I don’t know what cut or type to buy. I have found the meat they include to be very fresh and with just the right amount of fat, marbling, etc. – so I don’t have to worry. They tell me exactly how to cook it, so I am preparing, what feels to me, gourmet stuff!

Would love some more feedback on this. How does it compare to blue apron? We had tried blue apron a while back. While we liked it, the menu choices are very limited (had to choose 2 out of 4 recipes) and often were too spicy or strange for my little ones. Wondering if this might be a better fit for us?

    • Gina

I am giving hello fresh a try. After looking into home fresh and blue apron, I decided on hello fresh. I have $40 off if youโ€™re interested which would make 3 meals for 2 $20 to try!

    • Lisa

We’ve tried Hello Fresh, Home Chef and Plated. Home Chef is BY FAR the best. The flavors aren’t too crazy but still allow us to explore things we’ve never tried before. Plus 2 meals feeds all 4 of us (me, hubs & kids 7 & 9). I have a few $50 credits I can give out if anyone is interested? Just need your email to sign you up.

We have tried all three as well and my family of boys prefers home chef. Predictable meals with a meat, veggie and other side (lots of potatoes). There are other options but this is typically what I choose. I am not such a great cook and out of the three meal companies we tried home chef meals are by far the easiest and quickest to whip out. I found blue apron to be a little too fancy for my family preferences and hello fresh included too much rice, quinoa and couscous on a regular basis (I love all three of those sides but my boys won’t eat them including the hubby).

        Just my personal opinion
Home chef also lets you choose 2 meals instead of 3 (but charges you for shipping when you choose only 2).

I’ve tried blue apron, hello fresh, and home chef and home chef is BY FAR my favorite! More menu choices, bigger portions, and great recipes.

    • Tina

      Thank you for the feedback

  3. Tp47832

I love hello fresh and homechef. They have a great referral program too. Your first order is like 30 off and then you get 30 for each referral. Can’t beat that
The food is great and easy to prepare

  4. Kathy

    I love my Home Chef!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Super glad to hear you have enjoyed their meals Kathy! Thanks for the great feedback!

  5. Brooke

Iโ€™ve never tried any home delivery food service before, so I decided to give this a try. My husband travels a lot and I work full time. This will hopefully make fixing dinner for myself and our 2 children much easier! Thank you for posting the offer!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re very welcome Brooke!

  6. Steph

FYI- Costco has blue apron gift cards. I think it was $98 for $150

  7. Shaz

Ordered 6 and they were awful.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh bummer! Sorry to hear you did not care for them ๐Ÿ™ Thanks so much for your honest feedback!

  8. Ali

We love hellofresh and homechef!!!! They are amazing and we now are eating tons of foods we never would have tried. Really good and very easy to follow the directions (and I donโ€™t cook normally either). We love it!

Wasnโ€™t a fan of blue apron.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for your review Ali!

  9. Victoria

Used home chef for almost a year now. At first they were great. Loved the recipes and the service is great. Sadly the recipes arenโ€™t appealing to my family anymore and we find it hard to pick out meals from the menu.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for sharing your experience Victoria!

I just recently tried Home Chef, through a swagbucks offer – which also gave back $25 in points for doing so! so it was a MM!! I got 2 meals for 2 people each. Then, since shipping for me was $10, it came to $50. So i added a side (smoothie or fruit basket), to bring my food total to $50, then shipping was free. (So I spent that $10 on more food, instead of shipping costs ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) So, after the $30 off for my first order, I got all of that for only $20!! (then got $25 back!)
It initially chose the 2 meals for me (after putting in some dietary preferences), but i could go back in (after i signed up and paid) and switch meals if i wanted to. they offer a few choices every delivery. i’m glad i knew that before i paid – that would’ve been ridiculous if i didn’t get to pick. lol. i love how the boxes come packed. even on a 85 degree day, i didn’t have to be worried about my box sitting on my porch. and now i have some nice ice packs! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I got a pork and brussel sprouts meal – so yummy!! and a steak and yorkshire pudding meal – it was ok. (steak wasn’t as tender as i was hoping) and then i got a pumpkin cheesecake smoothie – it was ok. i have young girls (3 & 6), who are picky eaters, so they didn’t eat anything. (I just made them something else) there weren’t any leftovers after hubby & I finished eating. I liked trying some new things that i wouldn’t have otherwise bought & cooked for myself. I haven’t tried any other meal delivery service, but this one was good. for an awesome deal, i’d definitely do it again. ๐Ÿ˜‰

after i signed up, i immediately skipped the following week’s meal, until i could try it. i did then cancel/pause my account – which was easy to do. it’s a little more than i want to pay right now.

  11. deb

Does anyone know if they do Gluten free?

    • melissa

My account is currently paused/not active, so I can’t double check…but I am pretty darn sure that GF was one of the options. They let you choose some preferences before you order (like soy, vegetarian, etc). HTH!

    • Lisa

One of the questions asks if you are ok with wheat or not – assuming that’s the gluten free option?

  12. Tawni

Home Chef was good, it was a pleasant experience and the food was good. I tried it for 2 weeks, but I switched back to Hello Fresh after trying Home Chef, I just preferred their recipes and thought the food and ingredients were a lot fresher.
If anyone is interested in trying Hello Fresh, sign up using my link and you will get $40 off your first box. Thanks in advance!!
