I bought this last Christmas from Amazon! I love it and can’t wait to get it out in a month or so! I do have to say that if you plan on putting it on a carpet surface the tracks may not lay flat and therefore won’t work well. Mine is on a wood surface so it works fine. I can definitely see how being on an uneven surface would cause the tracks to not lay flat in the train to jump the tracks. The train itself is great quality I would say the tracks are probably a little inferior. I did notice on some of the Amazon reviews that people bought new tracks for the train.
Oh wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to share you feedback on this, Katie! We really appreciate it!
Thank you Katie for the helpful review good to know: )
I love this train set.. I was wondering if you think this could go under a tree (with hardwood floors underneath?)
Yes it can. We put it around our tree on hardwood floors. The track can be put together in a circle or oval depending size you need. Works great when nobody is touching it…but as soon as my kids get near it, it’s off the tracks and not that easy to get it back on right.
This is G scale not typical 3 rail lionel… its a great set for under the tree especially with little hands
We have had this track for about 5 years now and it is my son’s absolute favorite. He is obsessed with trains and the Polar Express. Last year, we got the electric Lionel train, which is awesome, but he still goes back to this one. It’s very easy to put together and the quality is great for the price!
How cool! Good to know your son has enjoyed it and that it has held up so well! Thanks for sharing!
We have had this for about 7 years or so? It still works great! Only problem we have is it’s not too kid friendly.. my oldest was 9 last Christmas and didn’t have too much of a problem getting the train back on the tracks, but my 3yr old struggled. It does derail pretty easily and is tricky to get it just right when putting train back on. We have used it on carpet and hardwood without any issues w/the tracks lining up or coming undone. It usually gets played with for a week (kids get bored/frustrated with train derailing) and then I end up putting it away a week before Christmas/presents are added to the tree.
Happy to hear it has worked well on different flooring! Thanks for the feedback Megan!
are the tracks for it metal or plastic?
Thanks in advance!
They are plastic tracks 🙂
We bought this train several years ago. It’s hard to get back on the tracks, but well made. Definitely not for little kids, my 3 year old gets it off the track, then the other kids get frustrated trying to get it back on. Very cute though! Just for older kids like 7 and up.
Can you buy extra tracks for this set?
looks good just wondering if the train is electric?
like you don’t need batteries at all.
we bought two sets. One works perfectly, but the other hand controller does not work. Tried everything. Can we get a new controller of must we return entire unit?
Oh, bummer! Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? Here is their info:
