This would be a good deal combined with the 20% coupon that they are sending out with some of their catalogs.

    • Veronika

I just bought the Kendall collection for my daughter named Kendall and used my 20% off coupon from the catalog that I received. It took an extra $29 off which is AMAZING!!!

  2. Holly

I have a 20% off of $100 coupon I willing to trade for Amazon money.

I am a frequent AG customer – (sometimes I think I like it more than my daughter) But, I have never gotten a coupon. What am I doing wrong?

    • Erin

To be honest, that’s probably the issue: you are already a customer. They don’t need to offer you a promo to keep you. I feel like I may have gotten one the last time I got a catalog. If I find it, you can have it–but don’t get your hopes up because I can’t remember how long ago it came! I’ll post here and ask for your email. In the meantime, you may just want to call or email customer service and suggest that perhaps you’ll need to rethink how much you are spending on AG products since you don’t receive these types of promotions.

      • PiratePrincessMommy

That is so sweet Erin. But, you are right – they already have my business. i thought about signing up for a catalog through my work address.
You are so kind. My email is pirateprincessmommy@gmail.com just in case.

        • Erin

Strangely enough, I just got a catalog with a coupon today (literally after my daughter pitched a fit for a Wellie Wisher at Kohls). Oh, the irony! I am emailing you now.

      • Shannon

Same thing with me except I haven’t bought anything in a pretty long time, over a year. But I still get the catalog and there’s never a coupon in it!

    • Rebecca

@PiratePrincessMommy: You’re already buying their merchandise so they don’t need to send you incentive to buy. A friend of mine received an AG catalog with a coupon and she has three boys and no girls.

      • PiratePrincessMommy

Yes Rebecca you are exactly right!

  4. Katherine

What about American dolls that are costs over $100?

    • Erin

Quality. Keepsake value. If my daughter was really into dolls, I’d spring for one (using one of the deals posted here!), but she’s not, so I’m totally comfortable with the knockoffs (though even at six, she is very attuned to brand already and has asked if hers are AGs!). That said, I’d avoid the craft store dolls. They look super-cheap still in the box! I really like Barnes and Noble Espari dolls but they’ve discontinued them. Toys R Us has a line called Journey Girls, which is very comparable, and they seem to hold up well and the prices are outstanding (I’ve purchased two different two-doll sets with bonus outfits for under $20 apiece). IMO, Target are the next best in terms of quality, followed by the Walmart brand. I don’t have either of the latter but I’ve seen my niece’s Target ones, and their hair gets quite matted/unmanageable, and her mom says they are better than the Walmart ones, which she describes as “OK.”

    • Kay

The quality of the dolls. I have an original American girl doll from the pleasant company and a bitty baby that I have now passed to my own daughter. They are both still going strong after 20 years. They are worth the money in my opinion. When compared to other dolls that are similar on the market there isn’t a real comparison. The hair alone is so much nicer than competing dolls. When these dolls do lose an arm or there’s a mishap you can always take them to an American girl doll hospital or send it in. These dolls are meant to be kept for forever.

    • Katherine

Thanks Eric and Kay for the information. I think I got one of 18” doll that looks like American dolls that Collin posted it here a year or two years go… she still playing with it.

    • hi

The quality is not as good as before. Since Mattel bought it a few years back, the quality has gone way down. They use zip ties instead of neck strings. accessories don’t hold up well. IF your child is not absolutely in love with ag dolls, I would not spend the money on it. If you are not sure, start with a cheaper Our generation or My Life doll from walmart or target. IF they don’t play with it, then they are not that into dolls.

  5. Crystal

What is the difference with all the American girl dolls? My daughter keeps asking for one and I don’t know what to pick?!!

    • PiratePrincessMommy

      Crystal,

The age ranges are listed on the website. I believe they say the main (largest) dolls are for ages 8 and up. But, in my opinion, they can be for younger girls as well. The books however are more on an 8 year old level in terms of difficulty and content. The Bitty Babies are awesome. I believe the age AG says is for 3 year olds – which is appropriate but, my 6 year old also plays with them. Now, the newest line, the Wellie Wishers, are awesome. My year old can read these books by herself – they are chapter books with pictures – and is so proud of that (her first chapter books). She will be getting her first Wellie Wisher doll for Christmas from her Grandparents. I am debating if Santa will bring her one as well. I know she will love them. Hope that helps.

      • Crystal

Thank you so much for the help! I also don’t know about taking her to a store for her to pick or ordering her one as a present. She’s 6.

        • PiratePrincessMommy

If you take her to the store, she will find much more than just the doll she wants. I would say whatever you feel comfortable doing.

        • doll fan

Going to the store is a great experience. If you don’t live by one, there are hotels that have special american girl promotions if you stay in their hotel, you usually get a free doll bed, special extras and a discount to the ag store. I think it call all be found on the ag site. search youtube for people’s reviews.

        • MommySpendsLess

My daughter got her first AG doll for her 6th birthday. It was a Today Show special bundle posted on Hip2Save. I think I ended up with the doll plus two outfits sets for a bit less than the cost of a doll by itself. In lieu of a party we usually have a girl day – me, her and frequently my mom. We go shopping, go to Build-Bear, get lunch, etc. (all with coupons and birthday freebies of course!). That year I made her presents (6 for her age) into a scavenger hunt that morning with the AG doll as the last item (the rest were small gifts, under $10), she got a dolly and me matching dress set and we had lunch at the AG Bistro. At 6 she was old enough to understand when I explained that we could get a lot more accessories for her new doll at Target and Walmart than at the AG store and we were just looking for fun. At the AG Bistro they have doll sized chairs, give you a doll sized cup and saucer to take home and we sprung for the birthday set (normally they’ve favors for birthday parties but they let us buy just one). To me, it was more quality time/fun than I think it would have been walking around the store while she tried to choose a doll.
So basically I’d buy her the doll as a present if you can get a good deal then take her to the bistro or accessory shopping at Target or to the doll salon or have a dolly tea party, etc. to turn it into an experience.
