I emailed them asking this question “My husband doesn’t have an ID and he didn’t retire. He served 13 years and only has a DD214 honorable discharge form. Will that work?” I was told “Yes”… I hope this helps others.

This is why I am glad the VA will soon have ID’s for veterans that are not active or retired military. Several family members fall into this category. Tell your husband we say thanks for his service.

Yes Kathryn you are correct. I work at the VA & we just received an email stating that soon those without IDs can apply at vet.gov without having to present physically to a Regional Office just for an ID. You can also enter your supporting documentation thru the same website & this should tentatively be avail in the coming weeks. Thanks Vets for your service as you gave me freedom & an honorable job!

This is great news, because my husband does not like showing his documentation to just get a discount. Having an ID will be easier.

Many states now offer Veteran status printed on your drivers license. I used my DD214 as proof and now have a permanent government issued veterans ID.

I guess that’s what we’re having for dinner on the 7th. Thank you!

      You’re so welcome!

Yep. My Driver’s license now shows that I am a veteran. I served 35 years ago but didn’t retire from the military. This makes Veterans Day and Memorial Day much easier.

      Thank you for your service!
