    Is it $69.99 or $89.99?

    • Momma

      I see now, 2 different ones 🙈

    • Katie

Memory sizes are different – there is a cheaper one with less storage or a more expensive one with more storage.

  2. Michelle

Best Buy has them on sale today too! I bought the for 8 kids edition for $89.99 shipped.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up Michelle!

  3. Michelle

Will this be linked to my Amazon account, or can I give it as a gift?

    • Allie

You can gift it. It can be linked to any Amazon account by changing it in the settings. If you purchase it on Amazon it WILL initially be automatically linked to your Amazon account and will need to be changed.

    • Jess

If you’re purchasing this as a gift, make sure to click “This is a gift – Deliver unregistered”.

  4. Yesenia Lopez

Do you guys think this is a buy it now price? Or could there be a better deal closer to Christmas

    • Michelle

The cheapest deal I have seen was the fire 8 kid version at toys r us about 3 weeks ago for $79.99. I cannot imagine it going any cheaper. For the minimal price difference I would most certainly go with the 8 over the 7.

    • Nikole

If you need 2 it is cheaper to get the 2 for $149.99. I’m doing this for my twins

      • Catherine

Where is the 2 for deal? I remember seeing it the other day…

        • Nikole

It’s on amazon as well it should pop up when you search kids tablets

        • Stephenie

Is that the higher memory ones that are $89.00? I got two as well fir my twins. Otherwise 69.99 is cheaper.

  5. Tracy

What age range would this be for? Is a 9 year old boy too old?

    • Mom2Bear

No at all. My 9 yr nephew has one. It’s a regular amazon fire tablet when you remove the kid bumper and factor out a few apps.

    • jan

A child who won’t spill speghetti all over it.

  6. wah00153

If I buy one from Best Buy, how does it link to your amazon account? Do you just go into settings? Any issues with buying from Best buy vs Amazon?

    • JES

In the setup process that begins automatically when you turn the tablet on, you enter your Amazon account information. So there shouldn’t be any issues.

We are an “apple family”. If I get a fire tablet for my daughter to use, will she have access to the movies we’ve purchased in itunes? Can I restrict her access to mature content or internet?

    • It's Me!

I have found it very difficult to get Apple to agree with anything

    • Sarah

Only the movies that will be linked also with your amazon account. You may be able to download other apps (like vudu and ultraviolet) but if the movies are just in your iTunes then no. We are an apple family too but the kids have amazon tablets. We decided this because they still have access to all Disney movies we have purchased and amazon prime movies, any ebooks we have, and these tables are a whole lot cheaper so it doesn’t hurt if they get broken. We bought the tables for $35 (not the kid version) they are 1-2 years old now. Even if we had to replace them every year for a while it is nothing compared to an iPad. The operating system for fire tablet is A LOT different from apple, the kids can operate them better than I can. However, I like them using different systems so they can interchange it quickly. Their world is so tech driven, I want them to be able to keep up, their future jobs may depend on it.

Also debating on whether this will go lower for Black Friday. I think they were these same prices in one of the black friday ads I recently saw….can’t remember maybe Target or Kohls. My old Kindle Fire used to move pretty slow compared to my Ipad. Is this still the case for these or are they pretty responsive when you are playing games and doing stuff on them?

    • Jessikat1624

Definitely still the case. My kids kind of hate playing games on their kindles. They much prefer to use my husbands iPad or my Samsung tablet. They say that the games lag and go really slow. They like to play roblox, etc.

  9. AOhio

Kid proof case is highly recommended

  10. Trish

I purchased the kids kindle 8 almost a month ago because it was on sale for $99. I just called Amazon to do a price adjustment because today it’s only $89 and the customer service rep said they don’t do price adjustments but she did give me a $25 credit to my account for the inconvenience! Yay!!! It’s worth it to call and ask!!! 😁 😊

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

So glad you could score the credit! Thanks for sharing Trish!

  11. Laura Y

We want to get one for my 8 and 6 year old to share for school activities. Very simple/basic applications. Do we need the more expensive one or will the 16gb be enough?

  12. Mindy M

Do all the apps use internet? We have limited data usage per month at our home…

  13. Kari

I have heard nothing but good reviews for this tablet as far as kiddos go!! I just ordered one for my 4 year old.. now I can have my iPad back!!!

  14. Jessikat1624

Be wary if you are buying these for more than 1 child. I have 3 kids and bought 3 of these two years ago at Christmas. Since they’re all linked to my amazon account, they all SHARE storage. So now that we have a couple of games on there, it’s constantly telling us that my daughter’s kindle has no space. Even though I’ve only ever downloaded a couple of games to my son’s kindle. It’s really a pain. If you look in the setting of each, they show eachother’s stuff and even MY stuff (books, etc that I have on my own kindle). For one kid, this isn’t a problem. More than one kid, and you’re running out of space FAST.

  15. Elizabeth

I just ordered one for my 4 year old…. and also got an additional 50.00 off by applying (and being approved) for an amazon Visa card (which I’m just gonna cancel). 🙂 Total cost was $46.15! Score!

    • Thethreeofus

Did you get the gift card immediately. Also do you just cut up the card when you get it or do you have to call

      • Elizabeth

Yes, the gift card was applied immediately. And I’m not sure if you have to call or can cancel it online…I figured I’d just wait until the card came in the mail and then cancel it then. 🙂

    • Jenny

I’ve heard that it’s never a good idea to cancel a credit card because it can negatively effect your credit score. Not sure if it’s true, just a heads up : )

  16. Maple36

I’m interested in getting this because of the kids books. I have an 8 yr old nephew who is starting to enjoy to read. How are the selection of books with this? Would you recommend their unlimited selections?

  17. Tracy

I know apple products – not really familiar with these. If I want these for more educational apps for my 5 & 7 year olds, is there enough available and applicable for the money?

  18. Ashley

Just FYI, the warranty is limited. Amazon would repair a broken screen (under the kid’s two year warranty) once. AR

  19. Nina

Rather get the cheaper one n just put a memory card in..

  20. Nina

Highly recommend the Fire for kids over iPads. The parental controls are on point and tons of free educational apps n games unlike Apple. I’ve loaded my 6 year olds fire with a ton of free educational apps and she can’t access anything crazy or buy anything. Best part $29.99 – $40 with an inexpensive memory card.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks for the helpful feedback Nina!

These are awesome little tablets for kids of any age! I have purchased a total of 4 of these kid versions. I personally love Apple products, but for kids, these are perfect! Most of the negative reviews people have posted here have a solution or work around in the settings. A new app available will now allow you to link your digital accounts via the new moviesanywhere app and you will have all your iTunes, Disney, Vudu, and amazon movies in the video library available for download! This is key to accessing movies on other platforms!!! This was posted here several weeks ago about getting 5 movies free with linking accounts.

My kids are often frustrated with the free time kids version, so I set them up on the regular kindle platform and set strict parental controls – no internet, no camera, no social media, etc.

Amazon’s tech people will help you find a solution if you need help. I have sent 2 kindles back for a repair and both times I had a “new” kindle back in my hands within 5 days of dropping it off at UPS. For the price, 2year warranty, bumper and the included apps, you can’t go wrong!

One small important feature to fix everyone mentioning memory issues…buy the largest sd card the kindle will accept for additional storage of movies and apps.

Worth every penny…we lost one right after prime day. I called amazon and they even gave me the kindle prime day deal because I was having to buy a replacement! Can’t rave enough about these little tablets and the amazon service you get with them!

    • Susie

Someone mentioned all the devices share the storage amount? If more than one kids device is linked to one Amazon account, is there a way to get around that? If my four kiddos have to share 16GB, it doesn’t seem like very much…

      • Bl

I have not had this problem at all. I only have one profile setup on each child’s kindle. They are not allowed to use each other’s kindles – each kid has their own color kid protector (at least 4 colors available). I hide the sibling profiles on their kindle so each doesn’t have to have a pin to unlock. I am not 100% sure, but I think if you have multiple profiles accessed on 1 kindle it’s going to try and store each profile to that one kindle, so I think my limiting them to their own kindle solves this problem. Also, the key to making them worth it is buying the sd card!! I buy the largest sd card for extra storage…I normally find them for under $40 for the large sd card on amazon warehouse. My kids have more than 30 apps all free, and more than 20 movies downloaded. And yes some of these are non-disney movies where I bought the discs and the digital copy was in the disc and not purchased on Amazon. We have a 20+ minute ride anytime we leave our house and these are a “sanity-saver” for Me. We have had our original 2 kid kindles for almost 2years.
