I appreciate that Target is doing this for Veterans since we shop there so much and my husband is a Veteran. Hopefully they decide to implement this more than just for a “one time use”.

  2. It's Me!

    Love this!

  3. Amanda

    Awesome, thank you!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re welcome Amanda!

  4. VickiL

I don’t mind to show my ID to a cashier, but I don’t think they will honor it that way. I didn’t want my information in a database so I opted out of this deal. It would have been nice but maybe they’ll come up with another way.

    • MaK88

I agree. I’m going to pass and keep my personal info to myself. The card should be proof enough at checkout.

    • RR2

Hey all – this asks what branch, date of birth, and for my retired father, it asked his year of retirement … thought i’d pass along. My father is usually super sensitive about the universe having his info, but he didn’t mind this request.

    • trista

I contacted Target about this and my concern and the legalities. They said they will have a barcode to scan once the customer shows proof of valid military ID.

I hope people did not upload any of the forms they were asking for.

    • Beth

For veterans, All that they ask for is:
      Your name
      Your birth date
      Year of separation

    • momvanb

I agree. I don’t want to upload documents when everyone else just accepts seeing the i.d.

    • JAY

I agree. I’m passing. I’d rather not give my personal info. So many breaches of security lately (and even one at Target)! I appreciate the gesture, however.

  5. MaK88

I wish showing a military card at checkout was enough. I dont feel comfortable uploading and sending them any personal sensitive documentation as proof of service. Nice of them to offer the discount though.

    • Chelsey

You don’t have to upload anything. They use SheerID to check if you’re eligible and it just asks your name, Birthday, what service you were in and your last year of service!

  6. Rel8ted

Thank you! I’ve been waiting to make a larger purchase with hopes I would catch a sale.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re very welcome!

  7. Lau

Ditto … showing my ID to a cashier should be proof enough so unfortunately I too will be passing on this good deal. I think if those of us who are uncomfortable with the current method /proof might want to email Target and let them know our thoughts.

  8. Ccflyer

Agree on passing. It is wrong for them to collect all this info, especially your birthdate! I don’t trust their database

    • rel8ted

There is nothing *wrong* with verification of service. Passing is a choice, but please remember that none of these companies owe us anything. Thy have every right to protect themselves from fraud.

  9. Michelle

Anyone know if Legos are excluded?

    • Jess

*Excludes alcohol, Bose, CVS clinic & pharmacy, dairy milk, DSLR cameras & lenses, Elf on the Shelf, select games (Cards Against Humanity, Joking Hazard, Exploding Kittens, What Do You Meme, Bears vs. Babies), gift cards, Google products, GoPro, LEGO, LG OLED TV, Nintendo hardware & Switch software, Playstation 4, prepaid cards, Sonos, Target Optical, Mobile contracts, Traeger, Tylenol, Weber, WellieWishers, Xbox One, Xbox One X.

  10. Aleshiaj77

I took advantage of this offer, but I do agree that showing proof of if should be enough. My husband has it right on his DL that he is a VA. Hopefully this will be better in the future.

  11. Em

I’m s cashier we don’t require ID if you register online you get a unique coupon code. If you don’t you can still get it out supervisor has a clipboard with the coupon

    • riss

So I just ask for the supervisor and show my dependent card? I hope they don’t take the ssn.

  12. Megan

I just scanned and sent a picture of my dependent ID card with the important info blacked out. All it had was my name, the expiration date of my id card, husbands service branch/status. I blacked everything else out. There was actually a disclaimer on the bottom of the screen saying to black out important information. They just needed the status/date and name. I think they’re doing it this way so they can ensure it is a one time use. If they allowed seeing the ID card at the register people would be able to do multiple transactions from now until Veteran’s Day.

    • Sarah O.

I sent in a copy of id card without info on it (just scratched it out on the scan) and they sent me back my unique code within 20 minutes. I ordered some christmas presents I was planning on getting anyways and some grocery stuff I knew I needed to get this week. I also used this and my redCard so an extra 5% after the 10%.

  13. Kblack13

Yes, I agree there are folks that would take advantage .

  14. Teeracey

    This is GREAT! Thank you.

    • Teeracey

Do you think you can use this and get an additional 5% with the RED Card?

      • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I don’t find that listed as an exclusion. You could always ask customer service to be sure.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      YW!

  15. Maple36

Can I use this together with the 25% off toy item?

    • Jessica

Yes you can! I used it to purchase a Kidkraft play kitchen that I have been wanting to get!

  16. V

To all the Veterans and family members, THANK YOU!!!

  17. AOhio

Thanks Target, but his should be offered throughout the whole year, not just on one day of the year. I think Target can afford the 10% discount, other retailers offer it everyday.

    • Jenn

The armed forces are a CHOICE. Service is for different reasons but that shouldn’t mean that just because you join and serve your country that your military status entitles you to discounts. No one is entitled to anything but grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Shopping doesn’t and shouldn’t factor into any of that. P.S. Military spouse thankful for my HUSBANDS sacrifice, and whatever else graciously is offered to us from that. God bless you all and whatever sacrifices you make irreguardless of military status.

      • Amber T

You’re joking right? You know cops & fire fighters get free meals and coffee wherever they go without even being asked to show ID or get a special day…they get this perk all day every day. People who make the “choice” for the ULTIMATE sacrifice, be it military or any branch of government forces should be allowed one day of leave and a military discount. The pay and benefits are not close to what a civilian can and does make. Its sick that you use this forum to belittle the armed forces because of one day a year 10% discount. You don’t deserve the very freedoms you’ve been afforded by the men and women who serve this great nation.

  18. sfc_abby

Thank you so much HIP2SAVE team!! I have no problem submitting my information, the Equifax situation was worse. This is a great opportunity for veterans and retirees to take advantage of…I have no problem 🙂 Thank you again!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

You’re welcome! Happy you can score the discount!

  19. Tiffany Torres

    I printed mine! Thank you!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yay! YW!

  20. Katie

I just came from Target and the cashier had a coupon at the register. She asked if I was military and then scanned the coupon.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh cool! Thanks for the feedback Katie!

  21. Cassandra

    Yayyyyyy, Thank you Target!!!!

  22. Jess

For everyone concerned…yes personal info gets uploaded to this site. But it is a 3rd party verification site which I have personally used for years. This is the only way foot action, foot locker etc is able to give 20% military discount.
Honestly I wish more companies would use sheer id to offer military discount!! Or like in the past, lowes could not give military discount online but now they do. I can’t remember exactly, but I think they now use sheer id to verify. I think it’s probably the best way for companies to offer military discount so it’s not taken advantage of and also better then not offering it at all.
    Just my thoughts!
Happy veterans day to all who have served!!

  23. Jessica

I’m so excited! I used my 10% military discount with my 25% off toy and I’m getting a $5 gift card back for my $30 toy purchase. I was able to get a play kitchen that I really wanted but didn’t want to pay $150 for it. My budget was $100 for this gift and with the discounts, I was able to stay in budget. Thanks Hip2Save!

  24. Mama

Thanks for this info. I will pass it along to my son. It is great to honor our military for their sacrifice and service. I appreciate all that they have done and continue to do. Thanks!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re welcome!

  25. Yvette89

All this questions for 10% off? I don’t think my husband would want his info scanned into a computer data base after all remember that Target breech just last year at this time . Thousands of people had some sort of identity theft going on

  26. Jenn

Thanks so much for posting this! I appreciate the opportunity (no business owes us this so we are always grateful) and asking for info ensures the people they are aiming to offer this too will be the ones to receive it so I have no issue with providing some basic info (which they have anyway since I have a Red card) 🙂

  27. Darcy

Does anyone know what the coupon means by “cannot be combined with any other category coupon”?
