I️ love Ancestry! Crazy story but last year I️ found out I️ had another sister that no one knew about. She found me using ancestry! She’s 45 & grew up in England & I’m 29 and grew up in the states. We have met up once & look so much alike!
What a great story Rainy! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! How neat! Thanks for sharing your story!
That is so cool!
Read the fine print first!! I will not be getting this. Your DNA is also owned by them and may be use for other things. Just read up about this before you purchase.
You are right. I would never give out my dna like this.
I’m really into genealogy but this is EXACTLY why I won’t buy this. Who knows what they’ll do with it & there is nothing more personal than your DNA.
23andMe Ancestry DNA Test Kit is $29.99 with a $20 gift card today only at Target: http://www.target.com/p/23andme-dna-ancestry-genetic-test-kit/-/A-50760273
$29.99 with a $20 gift card and then another $69 for lab fees.
Purchase and receive your saliva collection kit from Target.com, then go online to 23andMe.com/start to choose which service you would like to receive and pay the additional lab fee – choose either the Ancestry Service for $69 or the Health + Ancestry Service for $169. Mail your saliva sample to the lab in the pre-paid package and once your sample has been analyzed, receive your personalized genetic reports in a secure online account.
From what I’ve read, the 23and Me kit is just that – a kit. You have to pay them a lot more to actually get your results.
They offer it both ways. You can also pay a little more for the kit with the lab fees included, no extra fees. That’s the type of kit I got when I did it.
Darn! I bought it from the Ancestry website and it was more expensive 🙁
plus they charged shipping! I’m so sad right now
Me too! 🙁
Maybe you could cancel or send it back?
I’ve been on hold with AncestryDNA for past 1/2 hr. Trying to see if I can return my kit so I can buy off Amazon for cheaper. I’ll let you know what they say. I’d save almost $14 each. One I bought awhile ago but saving for Christmas gift and another was shipped yesterday.
I went to their facebook page. Lots of people complaining about the same and apparently they’re not answering in customer support.
I just called them and they refunded the difference. It was super easy and they were so nice! Saved 14.95. Thanks Collin and fellow hip2savers!
call (801) 705-7000. extensions start with 74xx, 7550 is media relations. I’m calling until I get someone to get me to billing, one extension at a time
I called 1 (800) 615-6560 and just went to the purchase an ancestry kit prompt. It was about a 15 minute wait time and they immediately offered to refund the difference.
You were lucky
I tried the same and was refused a price adjustment 😒
I called and they would not give me a refund:(
I was the guys first call, as he just started his shift, and was oblivious to what he was going to be dealing with. I told him my call, and 95% of the ones after will be for the same thing. I ordered mine last night, and it was already had a ‘claim’ number which meant it was in the shipping stage. He offered me a free month of ancestry, telling me that was more than double in value than the refund. I said it is only worth double, if I needed the service or thought it was worth $30. I explained I can go the credit card cancellation route & order from Amazon or the option of them refunding the difference. Figured they would rather do the refund than give Amazon a cut. Miraculously, 30 seconds later I had a refund
Ugh. Bought this yesterday for the Black Friday “sale” $70 shipped!
Does anyone know if this test is accurate for White people of Hispanic ethnicity or Asians?
Which kit do people recommend that won’t own your DNA once given. And which site has a person gotten the best results from?
I just ordered from MyHeritage. They are running a deal for $49 a kit and if you order more than one you get free shipping.
In reading about it, am not aware that there is one. Be super aware when doing this. Once done, your DNA is owned by them and can be sold. It may not sound bad, but picture insurance companies buying up your DNA, and then down the road denying treatment for something based on information from your DNA. https://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2017/02/15/the-privacy-delusions-of-genetic-testing/#22df2bc01bba

Or a potential employer. And you’re paying them for the privilege! There is even a company out there that sells a diet based on genetic testing. I wish the government would put more protections into place around genetics.
This is a BLOG post that helps to answer some questions about Ancestry and their DNA kit

Thanks Stephanie ! This blog states that they do not own your DNA that we do and they don’t share with anyone not even employers without permission from the donor
There is apparently a lot to identify about this. I believe you made certain good points in features also.
