Tired of Paying For DIRECTV? Bryn Just Saved $600 w/ 5-Minute Phone Call

Are you a DIRECTV customer? If you have been considering cutting the satellite and ditching the service, this is a must-read!

Rumor has it that DIRECTV is running an insane promotion right now for existing customers who are debating whether to get rid of the satellite service. My husband and I constantly ask ourselves whether our monthly DIRECTV bill is worth the expense and ponder the decision to just go to a streaming service like Netflix or Hulu.

BUT, since we still have DIRECTV, I decided to give them a call! And that call just saved me $600!

If you have been considering canceling your service too, this may be an alternative! Simply dial DIRECTV customer service at 1-800-531-5000 and state “cancel service” when you get to the menu options. When asked, be sure to state that you are not moving (unless of course you are in the middle of a move!) and your call will then be routed directly to the customer retention/loyalty department.

You will then need to share with the customer service representative that you are wanting to reduce your monthly bill and are looking for any special offers that may be available for your account. Within a few minutes, the representative will let you know if your account qualifies for additional savings.

Guess what? I was offered a savings of $50 per month for the next 12 months! You guys! That’s a total savings of $600! Merry Christmas to me! 😱💃

    I call every year when my promotion runs out and they renew it for me ($50 per month savings) PLUS they give me the NFL package for FREE. Yep you just have to hang tough and they keep offering to keep you as a customer.

    Thank you, called DirecTV, received the $50 off each month for 1 year, free HBO and Cinamex for 6 months, free Showtime for 4 months, and the Sports package free for 6 months. Great part, do not have to remember to call to stop all these free extras, the will stop automatically! Thanks for letting us know!

    i wonder what package you had? direct tv has a 150 channel for 40 buck so how would you save the 50 a month? do they sent you a check each month? i have had dish welcome pack for several years now i just called them and told them i did not want sports and i have been paying only 20 a month with local channels included.

    Just called and they were so pleasant. Got my bill from $87 to $39. In addition, I got 6 months free of HBO and Cinemax and Showtime for 4 months. Thanks Hip2Save!!

    Not sure how every one saved so much. I have been a loyal customer for years and since the merger I have been very disappointed with loyalty. I called to lower my bill and the only way they could was if I combined my cell phone. Not a satisfied customer anymore.

    Always do this, but please dont be rude or get upset. There’s no need to, the system tells these guys whats available to offer if there is anything.

    Every time I call Direct TV and reduce my services so that I can get my high bill down I get nowhere. My husband lost his sports channels and I am still paying a crazy amount for no channels. I too have been a customer for too many years and my contract just ran out. I purchased the fire stick to get us ready to get out. I wish everyone the bet of luck but like the other companies they just nickle and dime you.

    I had them once. Was never happy with them so I quit and went to cable. Not happy with Suddenlink either but it WAS cheaper. Now it has gone up and it isn’t cheap anymore and service is so bad. I called to cancel and they offered to lower my bill but it ended up being higher. Looking for another way to watch tv…..

    That’s awesome! Im glad tgey are trying to save their customers. I switched from BH to direct but HATED them. I could not wait for my contract to be over so I paid the termination fee. I don’t think they even tried to keep my business. I’m now back with BH/Spectrum and happy once again.

    If you don’t a good offer hang up and call again to get a different rep. also ask to speak to someone in “customer loyalty”.
    That’s what I did.

    Thanks so much for this tip. Just called and got my savings. It was a little stressful because I LOVE my DirecTv and was afraid they’d just go ahead and cancel me!! But it worked just like you said (plus they gave me a couple of other ways I could save more) so it’s a winner in my book!

    Just tried it. They gave me a $60 a month credit for 1 year. That, and canceling HBO (which I can pay for through Amazon Prime for $3 less a month, and cancel/restart anytime I want without having to talk to anyone to trying to change my mind) brought my bill down to $26 a month. That’s amazing!

    I just called now… my bill went from $131 (includes taxes) to $65 (includes taxes) for next 12 months, PLUS she gave me HBO free for 6 months. We are month to month currently and this did NOT put us into a new contract… we are still month to month and can cancel anytime without penalty. She said to call again in 12 months to keep the price low. We have Choice programming and did not have to change it all.

    I just wanted to know how to handle getting extension. I called they gave me till 24. So I just lost a grand baby and also I’m quarantined so I chat either a chat said I could have till 1st. Well I have no satelite. We are going crazy with losing the baby but have to sit and think of nothing else. I call to ask why they cut it off and their reason was I couldn’t do it twice. I pay 240 a month always bn a loyal customer what do I do. We’re planning a funeral with extra money. I’m hurt and embarrass by them

      If you’re really looking to stay with DirecTV, then call back. Ask for a discount. If they say no, ask to speak to their supervisor. Ask him/her for more of a discount, then let them know you are considering turning off your service. Sometimes they have customer retention offers they can extend to help out.
