I’m very hesitant to buy this after reading all the reviews. I’m wanting to upgrade from the Fire Stick since it is constantly buffering when we watch anything and I’ve tried all the sugggestions to fix it. Anyone have this or can suggest something else till Amazon comes up with a better upgrade? Thanks!

I reasearched extensively and ruku streaming stick plus or ruku premiere plus had the best reviews so that is what I ordered. Hope that helps!

Thank you!!! I appreciate the feedback. I haven’t had time to research and in the mean time I miss deals because I’m afraid of regretting the purchase on electronics. Lol!

The last generation of fire TV really high benchmarks around 64,000( gpu, cpu processing, rendering, etc. ) This new gen fire TV is just a slightly upgraded stick no where near as powerful as the last box around 40,000 score which is why so many people were deflated, bit it still is fine I have no problems with it. I have sticks 32000 score , the last one and this new one. The fastest streaming device on the market hands down is the Nvidia shield TV at around152,000 benchmark score and is by far the best I own. Android platform can play all prime content, sling, Hulu, Netflix, Kodi, games, Google play, etc everything flawlessly. Bit pricey though.

My daughter’s boyfriend just told me about the Nvidia. It’s a bit more but I feel it’s worth it to save all the money from cable TV or satellite. Ty!

I’m thinking of getting this, would like to know what the issues are with it!

I was so annoyed this wasn’t on sale last week so I bought it through target with my 20% and of course it’s cheaper now. Grrr
We are upgrading from the stick bc of the constant buffering. A friend has this and doesn’t have those issues.

I have found if you use several devices (phones, tablets, smart TVs, laptops, etc) connected to WiFi, get a dual band router and commit your fire TV to the 5ghz band and you should eliminate the majority of buffering. Also if you don’t clear the cache memory in the stick from your apps once a month it will severely slow any streaming device, especially ones like sticks that have low ram 1-2gb, and low storage capacity. HTH

        Thanks, I will try that!!

Tech illiterate here but how does this work? I get the device, do set up and it streams movies, shows, and prime channels or do I still need to purchase some sort of cable service? Is this one of those devices that people are using to “ditch cable”? Thanks for all and any info 😊

    • Kristen

You would still need to pay for streaming services like Netflix, Sling. This device just lets you access it easily.

There is a ton of free content in movies, shows, documentaries, games, etc. If your a prime member. There is a ton of free content in apps you can install without a paid subscription. Just watch some YouTube tutorials on how to maximize your device.

There are rumors of a new fire tv coming out the first of the year. This one on sale is really nothing more than an overpriced fire stick. ( a low end version of the fire tv) I️ got it and am disappointed. Wished I’d know they were upgrading the fire tv 😑

it’s worse than the 2nd gen fire tv.
