Need a festive Christmas centerpiece?! 🎄

No one will be able to tell this little tabletop tree is actually from Dollar Tree after this easy makeover! Use faux snow and a few holiday floral embellishments, also found at the dollar store, to dress up this inexpensive $1 Christmas tree into a pretty centerpiece to be proud of.

These trees would also make creative and thoughtful small gifts for friends or neighbors!

Supplies Needed:
Directions:

1. ) Take the tree out of box and separate each branch. Instead of setting up the stand I used a piece of floral form to support it.

2.) Spray faux snow all over each tree branch, and let dry. (I found my can at Walmart for $1.50).

3.) Cut faux berries into smaller bundles and hot glue them to tree branches. Glue any additional embellishments. Try to make them evenly spaced throughout the tree.

4.) Place tree in a flower pot, basket, decorative box, bowl, or any other desired container. (I had these pots leftover from plants on my patio this summer. Look around the house for something to use!)

I’m passionate about decorating for Christmas without spending a ton of money, and these trees can be transformed into boutique looking decor with just a few easy supplies! I love how mine have kind of a farmhouse look to fit in with my house. You can customize them with any colors you’d like!

Do you already own some faux greenery, wreaths, or garland that could use a makeover?

Consider applying some of these tips to make them into unique, custom decor for your home!

I got these trees for my kids(5 and almost 2). Theyโ€™re specifically JUST for them to decorate . I donโ€™t touch their tree and they donโ€™t mess with the big tree! They think itโ€™s awesome!

Love this. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Lina D

      Oh thanks for stopping by!

  22. Mia

Okay, so I’m going to be a little negative here. I’ll start by saying that I really like the look of this but how much did it really cost?
    $1 tree
    $1.50 snow
    $3 accessories
    $1 bow
    $1 floral foam
    $1 container
I count $8.50 if you buy everything from scratch. I’m thinking for the same or a little more I could buy something similar. Sorry, I do like it but it’s not really a dollar bargain to me.

    • Kc

Agreed. Itโ€™s something I would do if I already had the supplies but not something I would go out and buy all of the stuff for. I got the trees in a pot at target for $3 and got a box of mini bulbs for $3 and they look great.

    • Lina D

Sure thatโ€™s about right! Itโ€™s ok for adding your opinion! I still think 8.50 is a deal if you look at how much things are in store. But also thereโ€™s value in creating something custom to your style. Thanks Mia!

      • Gwen

Looks fantastic and I still think $8.50 is a great deal for as adorable as these look and the satisfaction that you created it on a budget! a lot of times these types of things are at least $20 & up which for many $8 is in the budget but $20 & up isnโ€™t! Nice work

        • Lina D

Thanks Gwen! Also you can use this idea to refresh your existing garland, wreaths, ect ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

      • Arie

Here’s another thought – swing by your local thrift stores and see what they have that you could use for this project. Ours are full of Christmas decor right now. Look for wreaths with berries and flowers and bows – I see them all the time for around a buck and there’s three of your needed supplies right there. If you already have white spray paint at home, and maybe some glitter, use that instead of buying the spray snow. Epsom salts sprinkled on while the paint is still wet adds a nice sparkle as well. Look through your old Christmas decor and see what could be deconstructed and remade. Instead of buying floral foam, wrap the tree trunk in burlap or a festive dishtowel you have on hand before setting it in a container you already have. It would look cute in a recycled can – like a large one from coffee or peaches. So many fun possibilities when you get creative with what you have! I love how yours turned out, Lina!

        • Lina D

Great ideas! Love the cab idea!

I have made over thrift store Christmas finds – so fun! Thanks Arie!

      • Rebe

Lina, you are always such a lady! I would have a hard time replying to negative comments with such kindness. You have been a great addition to the Hip2save team!

        • Lina D

Thatโ€™s super sweet of you to say! Thanks Rebe!!!

    • Flgrl

I agree, so that’s why I bought multiple trees. I can use the same supplies and bring down my cost per item. Economies of scale ๐Ÿ˜‰ ! I am also buying my floral at Michaels. I think theirs looks better.

      • Flgrl

Michaels also has a lot of cheap ribbon.

      • Lina D

        Smart idea!

  23. Keila

Super cute! Love this! Wish I could envision things like that. Merry Christmas ๐ŸŽ…โ›„๐ŸŽ„

  26. Mayra

Whatโ€™s the faux snow called at Walmart? Itโ€™s not showing on my app ): Does it go by another name??

    • Lina D

I think the brand I had is Santa Snow – hope that helps!

  27. MissD

Love it!! I’m going to use these as centerpieces on Christmas Eve and let each family take one home! Thanks for the idea!

    • Lina D

      Oh how fun!

  28. Lissa

    Cool idea!

    • Lina D

      Thanks!

  29. as

Looks great and you get bragging rights for something DIY.

    • Lina D

      Ha yes! Thanks so much.

  30. Yoly

Thatโ€™s a lovely tree, if you donโ€™t mind me asking, what brand of glue gun are you using. Mine broke and I need to get a new one, yours looks like a pretty decent brand.

    • Lina D

Oh man. Honestly I just have the $5 one from Michaels. Ha – I should put a nice one on my Christmas list. Maybe other readers can share their fav brand!?

      • Deb Patchett

My favorite brand is “Cheap”. Thrift stores always have glue guns for around $1.00. I check to make sure they work before I purchase. I currently have about 10 glue guns…..in different areas in my craft supplies. Great for crafting get togethers too!!

        • Lina D

Oh great tip! I like this idea! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  31. Lesli Ramey

    • Lina D

      Thanks for your kind words!

  34. Lisa

Love this idea! My kids love doing crafts. I can afford to take them to the dollar tree and they could each pick out a few ornaments to make their own tree.

  35. jishmo

So cute! I think I will do something similar. I have the ribbon for a bow already, a tin tea can I think I will put it in. I have misc decor to put on the tree. I will only need to buy the trees and spray snow! It will be a cheap project for me!!! Thank you so much for sharing!

    • Lina D

      Love the tin can idea!

  36. hrosana

    Very cute

    • Lina D

      Thanks!

  37. Sue

Looks really nice but I would not use the spray indoors, go outside and do it cause I believe it’s toxic. Read the can.

  38. Gwen

I made this yesterday and turned out great! Thanks for sharing!

    • Lina D

Oh yay!! Youโ€™re so welcome ๐Ÿ˜Š

  39. Gaga

I think I might have seen this post last year here in H2S and I love this idea!! I decided to change my Christmas colors and the combination I chose is hard to find so this is the perfect idea – make my own!! Thanks again!

      Oh yay! Have fun!

  41. Tracy

My girlfriends and I are getting together this Saturday for a “Ladies Craft Day” and this has now been added to the list of crafts to do. It is stunning! Thanks for the idea.
