Ok, I’m technologically impaired, so I’m probably going to ask some questions that might seem obvious, but I really don’t know. Is the kindle fire like a regular tablet? Can you get on the Internet and get apps to go on it? Why is this one so inexpensive?
I’ll try to answer this for you joannem! It is like a regular tablet and can get pick up internet through wi-fi. You can get apps, however you can’t use all apps on the market. Just like Apple (Microsoft) has it’s own apps, so does the Kindle. So you would just use their apps and you might not always find an app you want. Hope this helps!

Yes you can You can download apps from Amazon Store and Books etc. My kids got one and it great for the younger ones. My oldder Son has the same but more memory for his.
You can use other apps if you use the APK versions

April, I bought my boys a case off eBay. Search the version of kindle you have plus “shock proof case”. They are durable rubbery cases with a carrying handle, about $10 or so shipped from within the US.
Thats the one i got like 2 years ago! Hold up well! My girls kindle is still great I dont let them use it a ton mainly for car rides and at home some.

Thinking of getting one for my grandma for Christmas. Does the 8gb hold much? She would mostly be using for books and basic games like solitare
Books take up almost no space at all especially if she can download books from her local library. 8gb doesn’t fit a lot of games by any stretch, but it’s enough for some basic stuff.
If 8gb is not enough you can insert a SD card for more storage.
I bought my Grandma one a coupe of Christmases ago and she LOVES it still! She had never used any type of computer or tablet. She reads and plays games on it every day.

Does anyone know if there is a YouTube app available on this one? My daughter has an older one and her major complaint is how hard it it to get to youtube compared to using her Nanas ipad.

It’s available for now but Google is pulling YouTube from Amazon echo show, fire TV and fire TV stick because of Amazon’s refusal to sell Google home devices, Chromecast and pulling sales of Nest thermostats. You can still install YouTube from third party web but won’t auto update. YouTube is still available (currently) on for phones and tablets but might get pulled in early 2018. Consumer punishment over corporate greed. Lol. Hopefully they sort things out soon and play nice together.
Ahh so that’s why I keep seeing that statement on the YouTube app from my FireStick. It says this app will be gone 1/1/18. Thanks for explaining.

I am on my second kindle and love it. The first one started having a shorter battery life, so last Christmas I bought a new one. I watch netflix, email, check websites, games and read books on it. My kids have ipads, but I love my kindle.

How user friendly is this vs a regular tablet? My 93 year old, savvy, Grandma mentioned she’d like a tablet (to Facebook stalk and play card games on).
I bought one for my son last year. His one complaint was that he could not download clash of clans. Other than that, he’s happy with it!

Actually you can play CoC on fire tablets, just watch YouTube tutorials on how to do it, quite easy. You can even sideload Google play and install games that way or install any APK from reliable third party sources since the fire OS is Android.

Is there a way to get rid of Alexa? Alexa is the reason I do not want to buy Fire tablet.
I blocked Alexa with parental controls.

You can buy the cheaper 8GB and then get a very inexpensive SD card to expand the storage if you decide you need to. We had so many laying around already from old digital cameras. I didn’t even need to buy one.
