We had this about 10 years ago & my kids loved it 🙂

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Super glad to hear they enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Kylie

Supposedly they come live and it’s winter. Won’t the butterflies just die when they are released in most areas in the US right now?

    • Buckeyemom

Years ago, the kit came with a mail-in card to get the larvae, so that you can time the release. They aren’t included in the box. We always did it in the Summer.

    • Danielle

Yes! There is another one also on sale for 19.99 that you get a card to have the caterpillars sent at a later time- much better option. This one would just means releasing the butterflies to their death as awful as that sounds.

      • Kylie

Awesome, thanks ladies! I totally couldn’t justify just sending them off into freezing temperatures for our enjoyment. The card sounds like a much better option

      • Lori

Can you include the link for the kit with the card? I can’t seem to find it.

          • Sharyn

Thank you! I was trying to determine how this would work in the winter. I have always wanted to try one of these kits! My kids are going to be so excited!

          • Lori

            Thank you!

    • Jenna

It says in the description that you have to live somewhere that’s it’s 55 degrees or higher when ordering the kit. I hope people realize that if they purchase.

    • Erika

You get a certificate with a code to order them for free. Wait until it begins to warm up in your area before ordering. We’ve done this for several years and my kids love it!

  3. Just passing through

We got this kit last year and enjoyed it. Unfortunately it was winter and felt bad releasing the butterflies. Think the box wanted temps of at least 50 degrees

  4. Jennie

My daughter (8) got this as a birthday gift in late April…we can not say enough good things about it! When the butterflies were ready to be released we invited all her friends to the park to see them off! My daughter absolutely loved this. It makes wonderful gift!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

How fun! Thanks for sharing your experience Jennie!

  5. Brandi Haselden

Ugh! My son would flip his wig for that Minecraft Computer Kit, but it’s way too expensive and I’ve already bought all his Christmas gifts!

  6. Jsturner1

We have done these kits multiple times. So fun! Sad story- one year we went out to release the butterflies and a bird swooped down and snatched one. My son was in tears!!!! Aside from that we love them!

  7. Lisa

Save the butterfly cage, you can always order just the caterpillars to do it again and again…not sure who loved it more, me or my daughter!! we’ve done it 3 times!

  8. Nikki

Planning on doing this for Easter!
