28 of the best Amazon Prime membership benefits in 2023:

1. The free same-day, 1-day, AND 2-day shipping pays for the cost of membership.

Amazon Boxes on porch

Getting packages FAST is one major benefit of Amazon Prime. Prime members have access to several speedy delivery options like free one-day shipping on over 20 million items and free two-day shipping on others. Members in select cities can even get same-day shipping! Check out all of Amazon’s shipping options here!

This benefit, alone, can cover the cost of the yearly membership. For comparison, the Target shipping fee is $5.99 and Walmart’s is $6.99. If you place just 2 orders per month, you’d spend $143.76 on shipping from Target or $167.76 a year on shipping from Walmart. Both of those expenses are more than the cost of an annual Amazon Prime membership!

Plus, since Amazon recently upped the spending requirement for free shipping from $25 to $35 for non-Prime members, there’s no better time to join Prime.

2. Score an Amazon credit with “No Rush” shipping options.

Don’t need it that fast? Choose a lower shipping speed, and you’ll be rewarded with a credit for future orders. Depending on the offer, you can use your No-Rush Rewards to shop for select digital products, including instant video downloads, Kindle eBooks, Digital Music, and Amazon Appstore apps.

Hip Tip: Want to earn even more rewards? Request to join Amazon’s Shopper Panel! There’s usually a waitlist, but once approved, you can earn Amazon credits each month for enabling ads and taking surveys. Plus, if you can get approved to upload receipts you can score an additional $10 credit each month for uploading 10 receipts.

3. The 2-hour local grocery delivery is one of the best Amazon Prime perks!

Prime members may be able to receive 2-hour grocery delivery from Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods. The selection of items available includes groceries and household essentials. Plus, Prime members 10% off everyday favorites at Amazon Fresh and can snag an extra 10% off sale items at Whole Foods.

If you live in a populated area and are looking for convenient grocery delivery options, check out this awesome Prime perk! There may be additional delivery fees depending on your order.

4. Choose your own delivery day.

Want to get your packages delivered on a certain day because you work from home that day? If you’d like to receive your packages on the same day each week, Amazon Day Delivery is for you! This service is offered exclusively to Prime members and it lets them choose a weekly delivery day for all of their orders purchased throughout the week.

5. Have packages delivered safely inside with Amazon Key.

Not at home? Not a problem. Amazon has the option to keep your packages secure! If you are a Prime member in an eligible location, you can get your packages securely delivered inside your garage or gate with Amazon Key. Not only are background checks done on all drivers, but you can even watch the delivery using a camera and smartphone app. Plus, permission to enter your garage or gate can be revoked at any time.

Note: For Amazon Key deliveries, your garage or gate must be able to be opened using the free myQ app. This may require you to purchase a myQ Smart Garage Control or a Ring Access Controller. If you’d like to view the delivery via a camera, you need to purchase the Ring Indoor Cam or Ring Stick Up Cam.

6. Receive new releases by mail the day they come out.

Be among the first to get new video games, books, music, movies and more on their release day, without having to step foot in a store! Just choose “Release-Date Delivery” at checkout on qualifying items, and your package will be delivered on its official release day. Pretty sweet!

AND with Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee, if the price changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the end of the day on its release date, you will be charged whatever the lowest price was that was offered by Amazon.com.

7. The ability to stream TV and movies from Prime Video is one of the best Amazon Prime perks and it can save you hundreds per year!

person pointing remote at tv

Why pay for Netflix or Hulu when you have Prime Video!? As a Prime member, you can already watch thousands of popular movies and TV shows at no extra cost, including exclusives and award-winning Amazon Originals.

However, if you decide that you want access to more channels, Prime members can pay for Amazon Prime Video Channels and watch the channels they want—no cable required. Prime members can subscribe to premium channels like HBO, SHOWTIME, STARZ, CBS All Access, and Cinemax for as little as $2.99 per month. If you’re unsure if you want to subscribe to a channel, most have free trials available!

This Prime perk can save you a ton. First off, non-Prime members have to pay $8.99 a month to get access to Prime Video. That’s over $107 a year! If you have Prime, these streaming services are included with your subscription.

Plus, if you choose to cancel your Netflix or Hulu, you’ll save even more! For example, a standard Netflix subscription costs $15.49 per month or $185.88 per year! A Hulu subscription without ads costs $14.99 per month or $179.88 per year! Both of those subscriptions cost more than an annual Prime membership which offers you WAY more perks than just streaming!

8. Save $120 a year when you ditch Spotify and stream millions of songs via Amazon Music instead.

Just want to add, at Whole Foods, the main benefit for me is the Amazon Prime special price. In the past, during special price, beef stews are $3.99 /lb vs $7.99/lb with no prime. This is cheaper than Costco regular price of $5.49/lb. This is the reason I sign up for Amazon prime.

  2. melissa

You can have a family member on medicaid and get the discounted monthly rate too. My son is disabled and on a medicaid waiver for severe autism and we just had to submit proof of that and were granted a discount :)!

    • SusanAlyssaTurner

How do you ask for that? Is there a name for that program?

      • VB Vee

at the top right of the amazon page…next to the “cart”…just click on “Try Prime”. When the next window opens….look at the center color area of that page and locate the “Try Prime” button. Do not click on the button. Instead, look two line below try prime and click on “See More Plans”. Click on the see more plans and another window will pop up. On that window, locate the third box that says “Prime annual $119 Per Year. Directly under that box you will see a yellow area that says “try your 30-day free trial. And under that yellow box, you will see options for “Are you a student? | Do you have a valid EBT/Medicaid card? Click on the EBT/Medicaid option. Another window will pop up that shows 50% off …..also the $5.99 monthly cost……along with a yellow “Get Started” button to push to start the application process.

        • Jen

Thank you so much! Our son is on medicaid as well. We’ve avoided prime due to cost but this is do-able.

        • VB Vee

An even shorter shortcut to sign up for the $5.99 monthly option plan. At the top right of the amazon page…next to the β€œcart”…just click on β€œTry Prime”. When the next window opens….look at the center color area of that page and locate the β€œTry Prime” button. Do not click that. Instead, look at the first line under that “Try Prime” button. At the end of that line, look for what says: Do you have a valid EBT/Medicaid card? Click on that and it will take you to the $5.99 sign up page. Click on the “Get Started” button and it’ll walk you thru the process. You will have to sign in to your account. If no current Amazon account, you will have to set up one first.
In addition for Medicaid recipients, this also works for persons who receive Food Stamps.

          • VB Vee

And one final thing: EBT funds” can not” be used to pay the monthly fee. The EBT card info is what they use to verify qualifying. You will need a credit card set up. I am not sure if Amazon Gift Cards can be loaded onto the Amazon account for the monthly $5.99 fee. Customer service can verify if gift cards are allowed for this.

    • Tina

What form of proof did you submit to them?

      • VB Vee

My son has it. He either needed to submit the Card Number or else a picture of his card via file attachment. The application process will walk you thru what info is required and how to submit it.

    • ohjodi

Also if you have food stamps/SNAP, you get Prime for $5.99/mo

  3. Casey

The Amazon Visa is so awesome. Best card I have had so far.

    • honeybee333

I agree about the Visa, I earn about $200 every year using the amazon visa on my amazon purchases. I use it to splurge on something for myself. I’ve bought my silhouette and recliners in the past.

      • Casey

I’m using it for pet supplies and other household items. I also bought the $100 GC with my rewards and got a bonus $10 on top of it. Such a sweet deal.

    • AshleyS

I agree with the perks of having the Amazon Visa. My husband and I use it for all our purchases and make money every month BUT it has extremely high interest. If you don’t pay off your card every month it is a HIGH risk card. It’s over 20% interest. On the other hand if you’re careful it’s a sweet deal. I love getting paid to use a credit card. The rewards automatically show up in your Amazon account and you can use them for purchases or you can put it back on your card.

      • Quinna

I’m not sure it’s the same rate for everyone because mine is only about 14% as far as I know. Still lousy if you don’t pay.

        • Ashley S

That’s a great rate if it’s really that low. Lucky!! It does look like it can be from 15.74-26.99%. That’s a huge range. I just looked mine up at it’s actually 19.74%. I always thought it was 22%. Either way it’s too high to not pay it on time.

      • Casey

I am not sure what the rate is, because I always pay it off to zero.

    • Simplegurl77

I love that it has no foreign transaction fee! I used it for everything when my kids and I went to Germany over the summer. Then I made one payment when we got home

  4. Mary

I will say that my experience in using Amazon to transfer photos from my phone to an external drive was SO much easier than trying to use Google Drive. I hope they don’t change it!

  5. Lupe

Also, if you have have Metro PCS, you receive Prime for FREE… I switched from Sprint to Metro last year and haven’t looked back.

    • patricialavenz-goff

Metro PCS doesn’t work at my house or at my job (in the state capitol of Arkansas LOL) and service is in and out anywhere in between otherwise I would have stayed with them. I am with Sprint now and have never had a problem yet……….. LOL

  6. jessicacit

Be sure to check out the rental program for college textbooksβ€” BIG money saver!

    • Rochele Freburg

Where on the site do you find this program?

      • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there Rochele! I just checked into their textbook rental program here, and it seems that after April 1, 2023, they’ve discontinued it. Bummer! Hoping a similar option might pop-up! 🀞

  7. Staci

For me they are in the Audible app under the originals tab. It says there the January selections are free until the end of the month and the options are below. There may be more or other ways, but that is all I am aware of.

  8. Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for the helpful comment!

  9. Amy

I recently ditched Prime after many years and have been very happy with my decision. Keeps me from just buying every good deal I see bc I had free shipping. I used to use a lot the perks but no longer did. Prime pantry was a big one for me and I completely stopped using it bc it became too expensive. They no longer offer promotions to get good deals like they had.

    • animity

We just did the same and I haven’t been on Amazon since. Trying to find anything on that site anymore was extremely frustrating for me. The search parameters litearlly pulled up anything and everything. Try typing in 100% cotton sheets and see what you get. Waterproof shoes or boots, forget about it. Kid dress shoes..what a joke. Glad to cut the cord. Plus Amazon business practices lately have not been on the up and up. They don’t pay any taxes…what the what. The middle class is getting smothered with taxes and we have a billion dollar company not paying any taxes.

      • Mary

Me, too. Gave up PRIME as New Years resolution. I’m definitely saving money not buying all their garbage and happy I’m not contributing to Bezos non-tax-paying butt anymore… not to mention how awful they treat their employees and environmental warfare. Target prices matches and I love their drive-up option.

      • Go Zags

Not for or against Amazon but a lot of large corporations do not pay taxes or an extremely low amount of taxes. Amazon isn’t doing anything new or different from other companies.

        • ohjodi

I agree. Companies never pay more taxes than they are REQUIRED to. And why should they, really? The problem isn’t the companies, it’s the laws and incentives that give them the huge tax breaks.

    • Amy

Completely agree on the search issues! I noticed even you sort from low to high sometimes it goes from 20k items to 100 after sorting. No real way to find what you’re looking for. I also have recently had a ton of issues with packaging and shipping. I thought I’d miss it but I don’t! Most of what I buy now is through s&s. Trying to cut back and spend my money with better companies 😊

    • Lana

We ditched Prime in February and have not missed it one bit. Once they ruined the music we were done with it. We can stream pretty mush any movie we want elsewhere for free. And no more impulse buys to grab the latest deal. In America we have a big problem with thinking we are missing out if we don’t do what everyone else does but it is freeing to go your own way and think for yourself!

  10. AshleyS

Amy C, do you currently have a S&S set up? I’m wondering if this has anything to do with it. My no-rush shipments don’t come at the same time as my S&S so it might have nothing to do with it. I currently have had S&S set up every month in the fall. I’m offered the digital credit on every purchase now where in the past I rarely saw it.

    • QueenLeeLee

      I still get it too

Can I ship Prime groceries for free to my mother’s house? Its a different address than mine. I have Prime, but she doesn’t. She’s having cancer surgery and will not be able to drive herself for a while. If I can deliver groceries to her, that would be great!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I have a Prime account and can ship anything to another address for free. If it qualifies for Prime shipping, you can. There are some addresses that don’t count, so you might find one item and head to checkout with your mom’s address to make sure.

      • April Rose

        Thank you!!

    • ohjodi

Yes, you can send to any US address (with some exceptions). I help my parents shop for things this way. I use my Amazon Prime account to send to their address. I can even use THEIR credit card to pay for the orders, too.

  12. Melissa

Anyone else having issues sharing prime benefits on the medicaid account? I can’t seem to get the prime reads or to borrow two books. From what I gathered you get the price discount but less benefits.

    • Cindy

You should be able to get everything. I get the price discount and get everything prime covers.

  13. Maggie

A while back, I got six months of free access to the Washington Post digital content with Prime. After the freebie expired, it’s been renewing at 5.99/mo. (which is still a deal, since it’s normally 9.99/mo.). I think the 6-months-free deal ended, but there’s still 1 month free.

  14. Greg Smith

Also if a package is late, you can call or chat online and request a free month.

    • Lana

They don’t do that anymore. Now they might give you a $5 credit with s really good son story about how much trouble it caused

  15. QueenLeeLee

I’m thinking about joining Audible subscription while it’s discounted. Do digital credits go towards the purchase of Audible books too? I have only seen digital credits referenced to e-kindle books.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

They do not work on Audible, QueenLeeLee. They usually work on kindle books and digital movies or TV programs offered by Amazon.

  16. Michelle

I just ordered this morning and had the no rush option. Maybe it is only available on certain items? Perhaps things offered from Amazon instead of a third party?

  17. Tammy

I can’t find the E book lending library. Any thoughts?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Tammy! Here is what we found on how to access the Lending Library – “To borrow a book, Open the Amazon Kindle Store on your eReader, Fire tablet or Fire Phone, and from the Settings menu select Lending Library.” Hope this helps!

  18. Gussiecat

I know about most of these benefits, but had forgotten about the lending library! Thanks for reminding me, since I was hoping to read some magazines that I don’t subscribe to at the moment.

  19. D Dostie

So amazon prime gives discounts for ebt but charges us , a disabled veteran, full price, sad……….

  20. Rachel Finkler

I use the free Photo storage and the app is so great and easy to use!!! I pay extra to store my videos (bc I have like 700 on my phone). I am so happy to have all my photos in one place.

  21. PrincessMom

Using Prime Video has been amazing! They have great children’s shows (Tumble Leaf, Wishenpoof, etc) and lots of favorites are also available. Plus, if it’s something not on Prime, you can buy movies and shows to watch on your account. I do wish they’d stop having things that aren’t available on Prime show up in searches, though. Hard to explain to a three year old, “OK, yes, you see the show you want there but I can’t play it because it’s not on Prime (and I’m not spending $20 on the season to buy it!)”

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I love Prime Video too! You can filter your search to only view those that are “free to me”. Hoping that might help!

    • ohjodi

From the Prime Video page, click on “categories” and then “included with Prime”.

The Amazon Chase credit card is amazing! We are a big time amazon family. They make my life easier, they employ my students, they fund my researchers, they sponsor my events, etc… I literally buy almost everything from amazon and I get better prices than I would at any brick and mortar store. We buy everything from kids uniforms to pantry items to electronics and even got our turkeys delivered by Whole Foods for Thanksgiving. We’ve reached the point that the only non amazon shopping we do is the local grocery for the weekly fruits, veggies and dairy. We put everything we buy on the amazon credit card…literally everything from a $1 bagel to a 10K down payment on our last car and our monthly utility bills. We never pay a fee to use the credit card and always pay it in full each month so we’ve never paid interest. We average around 2 – 3k a year in cash back awards and every other year it buys us a free 8-10 cruise including airfare for our family of four.

Another tip…keep an eye on https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=17934980011&chasewebview=false. You can get really nice cash back from the items they list here.

Finally…and I think this is a lesser known tip or may only be something they do on a case by case basis. A few months ago I saw a friend from high school make a post on facebook that his family was in need of food and their cabinets were empty until they got a paycheck the next week. I have not been touch with this guy personally in like 20yrs but I felt so bad for him. Amazon customer service was able to find his account, confirm his address, and then they contacted him to let him know an anonymous person wanted to help feed his family. I gave amazon $100 for this man to spend on food items…I saw his post about what was delivered…it was WAY MORE than $100 worth of food…there is no doubt in my mind amazon easily sent $200 worth of food…and I was able to do this without giving out my personal info.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh wow! That’s awesome. Thanks a TON for taking the time to share your experience and tips with us, Jennifer! We truly appreciate it!

  23. Thia

I think one of the best perks not listed here is being able to use points from other credit cards to stack with Amazon promotions:
Amazon: Use One Discover Point/Cashback & Get $10/$20 Off $50 (Works On Giftcards)
Amazon: Get 20% Off on Amazon when Using 1 Membership Rewards Point (Max $50 Discount)

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks, Thia! Good to know!

  24. 26

Thank you! I did this. It looks to me like it’s just good for your first pet. I was able to find a bag of pet food for $10.11 so after the $10 credit the bag cost me .11!

  25. Kay

Is there service fee or tip for Prime Now? I used Aldi for first time last week. They charge a $3-4 service fee and recommend paying extra tip to driver.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

It’s been my experience that it depends on the time you want it delivered. If I go with a shorter time frame, I do incur a service fee.

  26. Milynn

How is the amazon music free? It keeps saying it cost money. I’m logged in under my account and everything 😩

    • Stacy F (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Prime Music is the freebie which has a limited library of 2 million songs. Maybe you’re looking at songs/albums that are not included? You can access almost any album/artist with Amazon Music Unlimited which is the paid version.

    • ohjodi

Just type “prime music” in the amazon search box. then scroll down a little and click “listen now”

  27. David

same thing for us. No longer have the “no rush” option with an incentive. Now, we just get slow prime delivery. Ordered something yesterday (Tuesday), and delivery is expected next Tuesday. So much for 2-day prime!

    • BBROWN

From the website “Amazon’s operations continue but delivery times may be longer than usual.” They are shipping out essential items first. It’s also 2 days from the day your order ships, not 2 days from the day you order.

  28. Lenardh

Or….. shop local and support your local businesses. Ditch Amazon all together.

    • ohjodi

I live in a very small town. Dollar General and Walmart do not sell everything you need.

      • Lenardh

Then it doesn’t apply to you πŸ™‚

  29. SJ

I am not seeing any free Audio books. I tried the suggestions from the couple of posts in January, none worked. Can you please post step by step how to utilize this benefit?

    Thank you.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Great question, SJ! If you head to this link, (https://amzn.to/3aLEcC1) and scroll down past the header, you can click on the area that says “explore my prime” and then “reading” – the next page under the header you’ll see “Books with Audible narration in Prime Reading” on the top row. There’s an arrow to scroll and see more on the right.

  30. je

In the Kindle App, just scroll down on the main page to the First Reads section. That’s how I got to mine.

  31. Becky

I pay 15.99 for prime and 15.99 for prime music

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for sharing what you’re paying for your membership and music, Becky. πŸ’• It seems that Prime members pay $8.99 per month for an individual plan (versus non-prime members at $10.99). I personally also pay $15.99 per month for Amazon Music since it’s a family plan, which allows streaming on up to 6 devices at once. πŸ™Œ You can always head to your settings and downgrade your plan, if you’re not finding value in the family option. Hoping this is helpful! ❀️

  32. Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts with us on Amazon music, Csandst1. It does look like there is a smaller, scaled-down version of music library still included in your Prime Membership. I found more details on that option here, if you’d like to check it out. πŸ’— I understand wanting a larger variety though! I pay for Music Unlimited, and while it’s an extra cost each month, I use it almost daily at home, in the car, etc. Hoping you’re able to enjoy your subscription often too! πŸŽΆπŸ€—

  33. siena95

The free Amazon music choices suck. I go back to Spotify and will put up with commercials just to get better music, and the songs I want to hear.

  34. Teresa

They extended my GrubHub+ for another year free of charge!
This happened last week and I’m so excited!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      Woohoo! That’s awesome, Teresa! πŸ™ŒπŸ’•

  35. Sarah Ann

I will say that the $5 prime rx is worth looking into. I save $25 a month by paying the $5 that I would have had to pay in prescription copays. The copay prices for ordering a three months supply are often super cheap and worth doing three months at a time as well. This has saved me a lot of money!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

WOW! Thanks for letting us know you’re enjoying the PrimeRx program, Sarah Ann! πŸ₯° So great to hear how much you’re saving – that’s $300 a year! πŸ™Œ
