I have been teaching for VIPKID for almost a year and I love it! It has been a blessing to have supplemental income. If you love kids and don’t mind getting up early, this is a great opportunity for stay at home Moms or just something fun to do while your kids sleep or are at school.

I have also worked for vipkid for over a year and it has been the best part time job. Great pay and flexible hours without paying childcare for my 4 kids! Win win!

I applied several months ago after seeing this posted on Hip2Save a few times. It has been a blessing to my family. I am able to stay home with my children and home school while still working a job that is fun, worthwhile, and pays very well. It is allowing us to achieve our family dream of becoming location independent. The extra money I earn is buying us an RV in order to travel the country. And I can still keep this job while I travel! I enjoy this job so much!

Just an FYI, I teach at a University level and I was told I didn’t qualify, the teaching experience seems it must be with k-12

I have worked with VipKid for one month and absolutely love it! I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom and I finally have found a job I can do that doesn’t take me away from my family!! I work early in the morning while my kids are asleep!! It is so fun and little to no stress. I’m telling you ladies (and guys who do VERY well at this position) I made $1k in my first month!! I was elated because I seriously felt like I hardley worked.

Please use my referral, as that is an incentive that the company provides for us, too! There are so many incentives! I would LOVE to help you theough the hiring process. If you use my referral, i will be emailing you:)

Yes, experience needs to be with kids. I taught at a community college, but I also did substitute teaching and I qualified. Preschool, daycare, homeschooling, and church positions with children should also qualify along with a BA or BS in any major.
Current teachers do get a small bonus for recruiting successful teachers so thats why so many teachers paste their referral links.

I applied and I had experience teaching children in church and they said I wasn’t qualified

      • Melissa

They look for wording in your resume. Make sure you add that you taught Sunday School, or taught kids ages _ to _. It comes down to the wording on your resume. Good Luck. You can always reapply with a different email.

  5. KyLeigh

This is hands down the best job I’ve ever had. I get to pick my own schedule, no minimum hours, and the kids are so fun to teach!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

How cool! Awesome to hear how much you have enjoyed teaching with VIPKID!

  6. Rose

I would be happy to help anyone interested in this through the process. VIPKID has been a blessing for my family. This is an incredible company to work for – flexible, fun, profession, and perfect work from home job!
I have been working with VIPKID for a few months now. I started it on a whim and quickly fell in love with it! The kids are so cute and have so much respect for their teachers. I work full time and teach either before my kids wake up or after they go to sleep. It’s wonderful! I love that I set my own hours, and you can make up to $22 an hour!!!

VIPKID is a great company to work for! I have been with them for 6 months. I am in the EST zone and I work in the morning before my children wake up. There are no minimum hours you have to work. You set your own schedule. I can still teach and stay at home with my own children. The students are great and eager to learn English! Anyone for vipkid know if ypu have to have a valid teaching license? I taught elementary for 3 years. When I decided to become a stay at home mom I did not renew my teaching license. Thanks

    • Jessica

No you don’t have to have a current teaching certificate. Just previous experience teaching children in any capacity.

  10. Jessica

Another happy VIPKID teacher here! The quote in the post about traveling in an rv and still working is mine! I still love it and we are so much closer to our goals because of this job and the flexibility it offers. I have found a way to teach and have that satisfying interaction with my job while not having to sacrifice time with my children (we homeschool) or family. If you would like someone to help you through the process I would be happy to. 14. Emily

So what exactly do you do during a session and how long are they? I’ve been very interested but I’m a little intimidated. I use to run a daycare and preschool, have taught on various lower levels (not as a licensed teacher) and have a BA so I think I would qualify

    • Jessica

The classes are 25 minutes each with one child at a time. The lesson plans are prepared for you and you simply facilitate the learning using level appropriate conversation and props. And yes – daycare, preschool, and a BA are all valid experience.

    • Melissa C

Emily, each class is one on one with a student for 25 minutes and you follow a powerpoint lesson that they provide. Most students are lower level and learning the letter names and sounds and numbers, or beginning to read. Students are usually ages 4-12 years old. The lessons are very basic and the teacher instructions are on the bottom of each slide . I’d love to answer any other questions you have, just shoot me an email. I have been with VIPKID for over a year and have taught almost 1500 classes. It has been so much fun and I love the students

    • Kay

Emily, I was intimidated at first as well but the hardest step is putting yourself out there to apply. This is definitely a low stress work from home position compared to another I tried with a retail store. The classes are taught from prepared curriculum so all you have to do is review it prior to teaching. The classes are 25 minutes long. I am in Eastern Standard Time so the hardest part is waking up at 5am. I will say commuting from my bed to my office beats driving in the snow any day. 🙂

      • marie

Any health benefits with this job?

  15. LibraryLady

I’ve been teaching for VIPKID since October and it has been a wonderful blessing! I make at least $1500 every month and I only teach for a few hours each morning before my son wakes up. It is such a fun job and the students are amazing. The hiring process isn’t hard but it can seem overwhelming because of all the different steps. I would be happy to help anyone interested in joining the VIPKID community. I have successfully helped 6 people get hired so far. Could we chat more about this program? I am interested in pursuing this, but it appears that a “mentor” is beneficial in going through the process. Could you email me at navyy2k@me.com please?

  16. Didi

I have a question , is this an independent contractor job or w2 ???
Also is church Sunday school teaching a valid experience ???I have reference letters

    • Jessica

It is an independent contractor position. Yes Sunday school is valid experience. Any experience teaching children is valid. Make sure to put ALL the experience you can think of in your application. There will not be an opportunity to explain it further in the process.

  17. Julia

Is teaching done anything like the example video? I watched that and was DONE. That woman was talking to the kid like they were mentally handicapped and she was on speed. Just giving my honest first impression! Also, why no negative or even neutral reviews or comments to be found? Wondering what the real picture is. Thanks for any insight!

    • Jessica

I am not sure which video you watched as an example but teaching style varies quite a bit. I teach mostly upper level students that are between the ages of 8-14. I speak in a slightly slower speed than normal and use simpler language than I would with my own children of the same age. I use standard ESL techniques to get my point across and help the student understand the content. I don’t use baby voices, jump around, or wave pom poms. In my experience, the students that want my style of teaching come to me. If they want/ need jumping and pom poms, then they go to those types of teachers. It is what you make of it. As for negative reviews- those of us that are enjoying our jobs and like the platform it works from have good things to say about. If we didn’t like it we would simply not be here promoting it. While I do have things I would like to see change about the company policies, I do not feel like they warrant negative comments. I have been very successful and enjoyed all of my experience with VIPKID. Many others have as well. We like the opportunity to tell others how this job has helped us achieve our goals.

      • Julia

Thanks for your response…it was the monkey/banana video. I’ll google around and see if I can find more examples. Thanks!

        • Just passing through

Lol. My sister taught English in Japan for a few years. When she came back she talked r e a l l y slooooow. We’d be like spit it out already 😂😂

          • Jill

            Lol!! 😂 😂

  18. NikkiB

Wondering the same too. Everything seem so glowing, I’m getting more nervous about applying. What is so difficult that one needs help with the process? Why is everyone offering help instead of just posting their referral? Are there no stumbling blocks and difficulties along the way while you teach?
Do you max you out after a couple of months? Or can you go for years? How are you paid? Paypal, check? W2 issue?

    • Jill

I offer help because there is an overwhelming amount of information on the internet and it can easily become overwhelming. The interview is so much easier than many of the youtube videos and commenters make it out to be. Also, with such a big sign up incentive for us if you use our referral, we want to make sure you get hired! 😆😆

  19. Heather

My friend does VIP kids, and has shared a few of her challenges with me. One of the things that she says is challenging is the rating system. You have to maintain high ratings in order to be able to continue with the company. Many things can impact this rating. Yes, the lessons are pre-prepared for you, which is nice, but you’re required to stick to them rather rigidly. She says it’s challenging sometimes because she wants to ensure that the child truly understands before moving on to the next thing, but she can’t always reteach or reinforce something because her rating goes down if she doesn’t get through all the slides in the 25 minutes – even if it was because the child needed a slower pace. All the slides are required even if the child shows up to the session late.

She’s also had the experience where a parent rated her low with no explanation. She is frustrated that she can’t make changes if she doesn’t know what the issue was.

sorry to say this, I tried my level best in October 2017 for VIP KID teacher job. But I could not able to succeed, reasons are silly because I am from India and I don’t look like an american. I succeeded in 2 interviews and failed in final mock due to technical problem where I was unable to finish the lesson completely. I spent lot of money on materials, one full day time off(loss of pay) from my work to attend VIP kid seminar, lot of preparation, all these caused me lot of disappointment. I am full time job holder in IT industry and have a teaching experience and holding Master’s degree. I never even prepared for my technical job by using this much effort . This try made me so stressful.

  21. NikkiB

Has anyone been successful in reapplying after being rejected? Just trying to cover all basis before I take the plunge. Are all you VIPKID teachers of caucasian descent? I have a strong british accent, but don’t have caucasian features. Not trying to make this a race issue, but I know first hand that asian parents prefer their kids being taught by a westerner.

    • Jessica

I think the reason many applicants aren’t hired even though they have experience is not race but accent. They specifically want a North American accent. It does state this in the requirements for the job. There are many ethnicities and ages represented by teachers that I have seen.

    • T

Yes, there have been many people who have reapplied with a different email address and have been successfully employed with VIPKID. It does not matter what race you are but you need to have a clear English accent.

I would give it a shot. Doesn’t hurt to apply and see what happens!

  22. Terry

How about age? I am an early retiree, so my education and experience is from the 80’s and 90’s. Would that disqualify me? Thank you.

    • Jessica

I think all experience counts. You must also have a bachelors degree in anything. But there are many teachers that would fit the “retiree” age group.

  23. Rhonda

Hi! I just got hired by VIPKID after the last Hip2Save post! I used a Hip2Saver’s referral link and she helped me through the process. I was told the process has recently changed and I would be happy to help anyone through it if you are thinking about applying. If you are on the fence – give it a try! I was hesitant at first, but I’m really enjoying it so far! My second class was taught as my student was seated on the Great Wall of China! I certainly won’t forget that class.

I am a full-time teacher and teach Friday evenings and weekends (early and late) as I am available.

Here is my referral link: https://t.vipkid.com.cn/?refereeId=10018117&refersourceid=a01
    And my referral code: 05YQ11

  24. A

This is hopefully to help anyone who is sitting on the fence about this job, or thinks will I qualify, will I actually be hired, feeling intimidated or overwhelmed by the process. You don’t know until you try!!! What do you have to loose?!! If you have a bachelors degree- in any subject, ( you MUST have a BA this is a requirement) some experience with kids- babysitting, teaching, preschool, home-school, kids of your own, lesson prepping, community service in church settings, volunteer work, draw on all of your experiences and I bet you’ll have more than you realize! Give it a shot!
YES!! the mornings are hard to adjust to at first, but as with anything you get used to it. It is flexible- you choose your schedule, and when you want to work. If you are a stay at home mom- its a blessing to work and not leave your kids- if you are looking for some extra cash for trips, holidays, bills, debt its worth it! When you sign up under the referral links it allows us to connect with you and help you through the hiring process if you desire it! I am happy to help, motivate, and do whatever I can to help anyone wanting to join, to succeed!! It has been a huge blessing in my life and I want to pay it forward from the person who encouraged me to give it a try.

  25. Carol

After all the glowing reports, I don’t want to seem too negative but I thought I should share my experience. I applied in October and was hired pretty quickly. I enjoyed the interview and mock lesson and was pretty excited about the job. At the time there was another job I was applying for, that I was a strong candidate for, but I chose to put more time and effort into this one, since the company really rushed me through the process and urged me to get my bio and intro video done quickly so I could start teaching. After setting up my teaching area, assembling props, taking several workshops, and doing another mock lesson video to get “certified,” I have yet to teach a class and make any money. I am going into the third month of my contract without ever teaching a student. I have reached out to the company but have not gotten any responses than to just wait and in the meantime keep taking (unpaid) training workshops. Now I regret not going for the other job. I’m not giving up yet and I know some people have had very good luck with getting booked right away. I just thought I should let people know that it doesn’t always work out that way.

  26. hahn

  27. April

I want to sign up but have a few questions:
How much $ have you invested into props/your teaching space?
How long did it take you to get fully booked?
    Thank you for your time!

    • Danielle Schildhauer

      Hi April,

I’d be happy to chat with you, feel free to Email me at daniellerose.holland@gmail.com!

I don’t have any classes tonight so can email freely after 7:30

  28. morgan890

What are the late night hours that are needed? My son still wakes up in the morning if I get out of bed so I would only be able to do nights for awhile. Do you think I could stay booked working evening/night hours? (I’m in EST) Thanks for the feedback!

    • T

Feel free to email me at tonia_fricano@yahoo.com and I can show you the booking calendar of popular booking times.

    • A

Morgan it depends on your time zone, but during school year hours- Friday- Sunday you are able to teach evenings they book really well. During the Chinese Summer break you can get nights booked any day of the week.
I’d love to answer any questions you have.

  29. Stacey Fox

Can someone who has gone through the entire process recently email me. I have been on the fence about applying for awhile and just need that extra push to apply. I have a BA in English, but my only experience with teaching outside my own children was a before and after school program many years ago while I was in college and I’m not sure that would be enough to fulfill that requirement. Thanks in advance!

    • A

Stacey! Whats your email? I’d love to help motivate you!

  30. Charity S

I am currently a stay at home mom who is interested in learning more about this. I have a BA in Psychology, but have been out of the workforce since having my kids. I don’t have any official teaching experience other than tutoring my own children, not sure if I would qualify based on this.
