Here’s what Hip2Save Readers have to say…

I got mine when it was a black Friday deal and quickly got my husband one as well! We LOVE IT!! We watch movies A LOT and this is saving us so much money!!

My husband and I love Movie pass. We have been members since September. It did take a long time for our cards to arrive but was well worth the wait. We have seen about 15 movies. We prefer Regal over AMC since Regal provides reward points. We have generated lots of good freebies. I live in central Florida and have not had any issues using the card. Most theaters participate. If you are hesitant to buy the year pass just sign up for the free trial. You will Love this service. I was very skeptical initially but they have surpassed my expectations.

Just got back from our 1st movie using moviePass. It went great! I purchased 2 and am so glad I did. Definitely worth it if you have the time to go on date nights. This is an awesome deal. Think it comes out to be 7.50 a month, that doesn’t even pay for 1 ticket here in Northern California.

Wondering if this is a code so I can gift it. I’d like to buy for my mom

    • K

Yes, it’s a code. You can set it up for her online as well but it will ask for your credit card info in additional to entering the code.

  2. Jennifer Debin

Does each person who gets a pass need their own cell phone? Thinking about it for our family but heard that a cell phone was needed for each pass.

    • K

Yes, it’s registered to the phone and they will only let you switch the phone 3 times before they boot you.

  3. Megan T.

I just want to warn y’all to be careful. Their customer service is lousy and the cards do not always work or able to get activated. now that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a great service. I don’t know. I just know that I could not activate my cards and spent 2 months trying to get an answer from anyone.

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I’m so sorry you had a difficult time with it! Thank you for sharing your experience!

    • melissa

I agree. I know someone that has been able to use it and can’t get any support. Waste of his money.

  4. Mamareck

Does the ticket just have a name on it, or could you let someone else use your ticket?

    • maria

There is no name on the ticket. You print your ticket at the self serve kiosk or show confirmation # to ticket seller.

    • K

Your phone needs to be present to check into the movie so your credit card gets loaded with money for you to buy the ticket within 30 minutes. Can’t sign in and out of the apps because they register your phone and will only allow you to change phones 3 times before they boot you.

  5. maria

I got one for my husband and myself for Christmas and already saw 5 movies. Works great. E-ticket through the app or use the debit card at the theater. We were able to use e-ticketing immediately after purchasing through Costco.

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks for letting us know how well it worked for you!

    • Just passing through

E ticket as in the ticket is on your phone or you used the kiosk.

  6. Korie Radcliff

Does it have to be a phone or would an itouch work (with app downloaded with wifi) in order to check in at theater?

    • K

It asks specifically for iPhone or Android when you are doing it. You need to have reception at the theater since you have to be onsite in order to check into the movie and buy the tickets within 30 minutes of checkin.

  7. Tamana

Is there an additional monthly charge for this?

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

No, it doesn’t appear that there is any additional charge during the year.

  8. Nancy

Please read reviews online before buying the Movie Pass. My daughter is currently in a battle with them to deliver the movie pass she bought. There’s no phone number to call. Check out their Facebook page or just google reviews.

    • Erica (Silly Sidekick)

Oh bummer… so sorry to hear about her bad experience Nancy. 🙁

  9. Shari M

I waited a very long time for my booty pass to come but want to take out here holy crap that’s the best bargain I’ve ever found ever now I have heard a rumor that AMC is trying to block MoviePass I don’t know how true that is I hope that doesn’t happen but I still have another theater that I like to go to in the area so I’ll be okay I love this thing

  10. Tp

I’ve had for several months. My daughter also has. Our cards took about 6 weeks to come in the mail. Your account isn’t valid until you get the card. We go to the movies once a week did a date night. My card doesn’t work about the third of the time. I’ve emailed them, facebooked them, twittered to them no response ever. However they respond to her emails. She has an issue about once a month. It’s cheAp and customer service is terrible but it cheap.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Sorry to hear about the issues! Thanks a bunch for taking a moment to leave a review!

  11. Bre

So are you limited to purchasing your tickets within 30 minutes of show time? So you couldn’t buy your ticket the day before, right? Makes sense they would want to fill unsold open seats, but a limitation to consider if true.

    • Bre

Or could you show up, load the card and buy you ticket within 30 minutes for a movie showing the following day/week? I’m thinking of new releases you may want to buy your ticket in advance.

    • Mike wood

Not 30 minutes of showtime but does have to be same day. You could go first thing in the morning and activate your app and then purchase the tickets within 30 minutes but you would not have to use the tickets until Showtime which could be later that evening.

  12. Mike wood

Signed up 2 weeks ago, got the cards in 10 days. Used twice already with no issues at all. Appears they did have fulfillment issues in late summer, but it was very fast for me. I think they had some growing pains. AMC can’t block them unless they block all Mastercard cards which would be unlikely. E-tickets are only usable at a very small number of locations and you can only purchase tickets for the same day. Only inconvenience I have experienced so far.

    • Bre

Thanks for clearing up the same day purchase restriction.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Good to know you have been pleased with your MoviePass!

  13. leah

This sounds great but an article I read said AMC is not happy about this and may pull their cooperation.

  14. susan

Beware that if you have problems it will be awful. If you are a lucky person go for it. I know people who have it and love it, but there are also a lot of people who this doesn’t work for and trying to get them to help you is impossible. I do not think they even have a customer service team. Good luck!

  15. Becca

Is this something that would be possible to share with another family?

  16. Bethany

Maybe a dumb question but each pass is for one person only, right?

  17. Paige

    Absolutely love our movie pass!!!

  18. Lisa Burns

We were wanting to do this for our family, but our boys only have access to our old phones through wifi without phone access. Does anyone know if my husband and I can use our personal phones, and then our kids use our old phones through wifi? Or do they need a number as well?

    • Sadie

Not sure but if a number is needed download a text app…like textnow or something that will give you a phone number that can be used for calling or texting when on wifi.

    • Mike

Kids aren’t allowed to have an account. Only ages 18+.

      • JC

We were each going to spend our Christmas money on passes until I saw that. Bummer.

  19. Hope

I have had movie pass since early November. I really like it. I’ve seen 8 movies since. Some that I would have never paid full price otherwise to see but ended up enjoying. I have racked up a ton of regal rewards credits with movie pass. Sometimes I go alone when I feel the need to get away and hide out for two hours lol It’s great. I pay the monthly 10 dollar rate and so far haven’t had any problems. I never had a reason to contact costumer service so I can’t speak to that. My card came in two weeks.

  20. Sandy

Could this be shared or is it per person?

    • Mike

One ticket per day and each account only attaches to one phone so not easy to share.

  21. alexandra

Does anyone know about the streaming? It says it can be used with Roku. Does anyone know if its comparable to Netflix? Does it have new movies available on it?
    Thanks for any info!

    • Kim

Fandor “specializes in independent films, classics, silent films, foreign films, documentaries and shorts”. Most of Fandor’s more than 6,000 films are outside mainstream channels and are from different cultures, time periods, and genres. Description from wiki. So completely different then Netflix and while some films may be new they wouldn’t be blockbuster Hollywood type films.

      • alexandra

Thank you Kim. Do you have this?
