Hip Tip: In previous posts, we’ve shared DIY Slime using Borax as well as DIY Fluffy Slime using shaving cream, in case you’d like to try those methods.
How to Make DIY Crunchy Slime
Ingredients:
- 6 oz. Elmer’s school glue
- 1/2 tablespoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/2 tablespoon contact lens solution (Make sure it contains boric acid and sodium borate for it to work.) – We used this Blink brand
- 1/4 cup fishbowl beads
- food coloring and glitter, if desired
Directions:
1.) Add glue to the bowl.
2.) Stir in baking soda, and then stir in water.
3.) Stir in contact solution. This is the activator, so you should notice it start to get firm right away.
4.) Add in fishbowl beads, food coloring and/or glitter. We added red beads, glitter, and food coloring to this batch for a fun Valentine’s Day theme!
5.) Keep kneading and kneading with your hands until slime forms! If it’s super sticky, you can add more contact solution as needed.
6.) Eventually, you’ll get this wonderfully addictive crunchy slime to play with!

Question…… Where’d you get those stickers and small containers? I know my daughter would love to hand these to her classmates on Valentine’s Day.
We have used the small condiment containers from Dollar Tree before. Looks like you just have to click and print the labels!!
I linked the containers from amazon in the post, under the second to last photo. Hope that helps 👍
Oh and the labels -I just printed the free printable linked in this post and cut them out, taped to lid.
They have those little containers at Dollar Tree!
12 in a pack
Great idea!
I ordered the containers at amazon, and i had stickers made on vistaprint.
Oh that’s a fun idea!
I ready “Crunchy Slime” and actually had thought you put cereal in it! Glad to know that wasn’t the case! Lol!
This is a really cute project!
Thanks Emily!!
My daughter has been asking to make slime. We’ll have to give this recipe a try!
Awesome! Have fun!
How fun! Gonna try this out thanks for sharing!
Enjoy! You’re so welcome 👍
Please keep in mind that some people can be allergic to baking soda.
Yay, Was just at the dollar tree today! two packs of containers for $2! Our dollar tree is right next to our grocery store making it an easy stop 😉
Just don’t buy the glue from the dollar store whatever you do. I’ve tried it and it does NOT work like elmers! It was very stinky and lumpy and gross. I’m 27 and love making slime. I play with it at my desk at work 🙂
Thanks for the feedback on the Dollar store glue, Jen!
My daughter is addicted to making slime to her and her friends using borax powder, after some time she starts getting dizzy and nauseous from handling borax, it has some bad warnings ⚠️ online, 3 degree burns to skin , can cause seizures or interfere with fertility etc……, so I had to stop her from making it . Not sure if borax in this solution or laundry detergent will be safer ? Don’t know what to do ? Anyone with advice??? I don’t want to stop her from enjoying something she loves.
You know your daughter best!! Research or talking to an allergist is your best options to keep her safe!!
Are these the same as seen in the Dollar Tree floral aisle? The can be used instead of water in a vase. What other names could this item be named, if not bought from Amazon.
Thank you
Maybe, if they are really small beads or pebbles! I’m not sure but let us know! Thanks Sharon!
