So every bag has different items?

    • Angela

Yes. One year I did it and one box was all pinecones and another box had calendars, pillow sewing kit, ribbon. It just depends on what your michaelโ€™s has leftover and if youโ€™re lucky you can get some really cool things!

  2. Sarah

Are you able to look at what is inside before you buy them or is it a surprise?

    • Kay

Ur not supposed to look thru them. Theyโ€™re like blind bags. I still like to peek here or there just to get an idea. Itโ€™s risky, especially now that theyโ€™re $4 instead of $2.

  3. Keesh

I feel like a big kid getting these boxes . So fun

  4. Sam

I used to buy these boxes as a treat for my kiddos. My thoughts have changed. This past year Iโ€™ve been decluttering and have found that much of it landed in my craft room are stuff from these boxes that Iโ€™ve never got around to using… I found a bunch of Christmas stuff from grab bags years ago๐Ÿ™„

    • Emily

I’m going through a major decluttering phase as well and the idea of a mystery box is such a temptation for me. I just want to open it and see what I get, but becuase I can’t think of anything that I need from Michaels, I know that it’ll just be more clutter and end up at Goodwill.

I think this is good if youโ€™re looking for Christmas decorations on the cheap, if you donโ€™t have much, like if youโ€™re starting a new house and if you have young kids and are looking for (a ton) of X mas crafts, usually mostly duplicates on the cheap as well. A lot of knick nacks and yes you just never know what youโ€™re gna get.

Dangit, I was right by Michaels today lol. I’ll have to call an see if they have any before I head back over there. I love these, some is junk but there have also been some really nice things in my boxes. I use some of it for decor an donate or give the rest away to friends/family. One time I got a $30 light up display

I had terrible luck with them, 2 boxes filled with moss. And another time 2 boxes of plastic cemetery vases๐Ÿคช

  8. SusyShmoosy

I did this at Easter last year and got a *ton* of great Wilton decorating items, table runners and boxed foam craft kits. My three kids and I had a blast with them! I bought three bags at $2 each and was more than satisfied.

  9. Fei

I got 4 boxes last year, all is christmas decorations. I donated them all to my kids school and they used it to decorate the stages for holidays.
Itโ€™s so fun to get the box and see what you got.

  10. melissa

I went today and got a couple boxes full of ribbon !

  11. Nina

Yea definitely fun.. n definitely hit or miss. Wish it were still $2!

  12. momo

The best is kids craft grab bags!

  13. Mary Beth

I went after work today . My Michael’s had them in clear trash bags, so you could see what was in them. I bought four bags. One was nothing but ribbon. One bag had throw pillows and plate chargers. The other two bags had really pretty ornaments and 2 projection lights that you shine on your house. I was happy with my finds!!

  14. Merle

Portland, Oregon area has them. I got like 20 light up Christmas Manson jars and random Christmas ornaments.

  15. Belle

Awesome, I’ve been looking forward to these showing up again!

  16. A

Yep, these are totally hit or miss but fun if you feel like taking a gamble. I got a bunch of beautiful faux pine garland marked for $40 one time that I still use to decorate. But I would say about 50% of the stuff in them is stuff I have zero use for. Next time, Iโ€™ll check through them on my way home from the store and just drop off whatever Iโ€™m not keeping at the thrift store. Hope my store is still using bags. The bags are much easier than boxes to peek. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Stephanie Link

I am going to venture out!

  18. Sylvia

Got lots of ribbons will distribute to local schools for art classes, lots of happy children.

  19. Belle

The Michael’s that I’ve been to have them all in the $4 boxes. Some of the stores taped over all the handle holes and top, so you can’t peek unless you break the seal.

A lady at one of the stores was telling me how to beware of the super heavy boxes cuz the ones she got ended up being all Christmas lights (boxes and boxes of them!). Unless you want Christmas lights of course! ;D

  20. Mary

I just bought 2 bags (my store has bags with tripple bags but you can still kind of take a peak) first bag was all Christmas stuff (a big mug, 2 decorative plates, a big golden mason jar, ornaments, golden stocking, chocolates, cookie cutters, ribbons, a ‘let it snow’ sign and a Christmas floral ball). 2nd bag had all kids stuff (stickers, medium size 16month calendars /themed kittens, colorful, puppies, and Psalms/ 4 boxes of gel crayons 12pz each, and a bunch of ‘Handmade Charlotte’ games) I work with children so my grab bags were perfect. Orange County, California.

Saw this and ran out. I’ve been waiting for this. I am a little crazy about Christmas. Had trouble narrowing it down so I got 4 boxes. One box had about a dozen rolls of 5.5″ ribbon, a pillow, a lantern, a funky pom pom tree, and several coin purses. That box alone justified the cost. The others were a hodge podge of things, so more useful than others. I’ll be passing calendars around the office and sharing candy canes tomorrow. I also got a bunch of lovely, but random letters (P, Q, X, Z, N, etc) I’ll have to figure out something to do with.

  22. Belle

    I ended up grabbing 5 boxes ๐Ÿ™‚

Box 1: 2 luminosity mason jars, gold jewelry box, gingerbread silicone mold, elf cookie cutter, boho decor antler, tiny treasures trinkets, Christmas cards (so many boxes), gift tags, Hanukkah washi tape, foam kids crafts.

Box 2: 2 luminosity mason jars, boho decor antler, ornaments, cookie cutters, Santa headband, foam crafts, stocking/candy cane silicone molds, a random letter F, 3 spools of plaid ribbon, 3 spools of gold ribbon, 5 Christmas flags, foam snowflakes, more Christmas cards.

Box 3: Foam craft kits, sequin signs (Family/Faith/Cheers/Jingle), red velvet bows (a bunch), random surfboard keychain, Christmas washi tape, sleep masks, Santa toys, wooden basket.

Box 4: Sequin sign, wooden deer head decor, Christmas cards, more ribbon, clay sports ornaments ( a bunch), sugar decorations, cookie cutters, foam snowflakes, pet bowties & flowers (super cute), “Let it snow” hanging decor, snowman manque, angel wings table top decor, Christmas lights (5 ft and 9ft), mini Christmas frame ornaments, Sugarbelle cookie cutters, Christmas tumbler, wine glass, a bunch of random calendars (kitten, psalms, colorful).

Box 5: Red velvet bow, mini dog trinket, ornament hooks, craft stamps (random assortment), jewelry charms (Halloween and XOXO), ribbons, mini Christmas frame ornaments, helium balloon, 2 boxes of Christmas cards, Scentsicles, cookie cutters, luminosity mason jar, 2 mini Christmas trees (red and gold), 2 boxes of ornaments, martini glass, trex toy.

My 8 year old daughter and I do this now as a fun, cheap thrill. She can barely contain herself as the rule is it does not get opened till we are home. Yesterday we picked the heavy box and had 5 full size ceramic aromatic diffusers inside.

  24. Jody Thompson

I bought 8 boxes, over 1200.00 worth of merchandise. I’m beyond pleased with my haul.

  25. Katherine Cain

Well heck I probably read this too late. I wonder if the store would think I am crazy for calling and asking if they have any๐Ÿ˜‚.

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Nah, I’m sure they hear that all the time!

      • Cantsaywho

        Yes we do!

  26. John Shields

So it’s only during holiday or is that all year round?

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

They do these periodically throughout the year.

  27. Elizabeth Vargas

How would i know when micheals is putting out the grabd bags

    • Erin

To those wondering, a lot of Michael’s have Easter themed grab boxes out right now!

  28. Yolanda Buckley

When will Michael’s have more grab bags near me? Louisiana

    • Justa Minute

We just missed it earlier this month. Iโ€™m just found out about this today. I called my store and he said itโ€™s about every 3-4 months; whenever corporate tells them to do it.

  29. Adriana Niet

When will the next one be? I never knew about this and since I just moved I want stuff to decorate my house.
