Don’t search for “passport photos near me.” Here’s where to get passport photos for a decent price!

Stop searching for “passport photos near me.” We know where to go!

Traveling abroad can be expensive, even more so when you first have to pay for the cost of a passport.

As of February 2024, adult passport books cost $165 each, and books for children 16 and younger cost $135. The less expensive passport cards (which are good for border crossings and sea ports of entry from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and Caribbean Countries but are not valid for international air travel), cost $65 for adults and $50 for minors aged 16 and under.

And that’s not even factoring in the cost of your passport photo!

What are the photo requirements for passports?

Many people opt to pay for a professional photo because the government has some very specific passport photo requirements that you must follow. For example, your head must be between 1″ and 1 3/8″ from the bottom of the chin to the top of your head. Your passport photo size must also be exactly 2″ X 2.” You must follow these guidelines closely or risk missing your trip.

Regardless of if you take your photo yourself or you get it professionally taken, you need to send a hard copy photo with your passport application. Since you’re responsible for supplying the passport photo, why not save some money and get it for the best price? We came up with a list of where to get affordable passport photos and many of the places are right in your own community!

Here’s where to get passport photos…

holding a passport at the airport

A CVS Passport Photo costs $16.99.

Photos are available at thousands of CVS/Pharmacy locations for $16.99. You can purchase additional photos for $2.99. Photo technicians will shoot your photo right there in the store and print them according to strict federal regulations.

A Walgreens Passport Photo is available at most of their 7,750 locations.

Have Walgreens take your picture and in return, you’ll receive two perfectly sized, professional-quality passport photos printed in compliance with government regulations for just $16.99. Best of all, Walgreens Photo can have your pictures available in 1 hour or less! AND, you can use Walgreens Cash to pay for your photo order in-store!

Upload your photo to get a Walmart passport photo the very same day for just $7.64.

Wondering where to get passport photos under $10? Consider using Walmart which only charges $7.46! You’ll have to take and upload your own photo, but it will cost you around half the price of some of the other companies on our list AND you’ll get your photos the same day!

To get your photo, simply upload a compatible file you have and make any necessary edits you need online at the Walmart Photo Center (make sure your sizing follows government regulations). Some Walmart locations may be willing to take your photo for you, check with your local store to see if that’s an option.

Rite-Aid may offer passport photos for $14.99.

The Rite-Aid website doesn’t have much information online about passports. We gave them a call and it turns out that many Rite-Aid locations do offer passport photos. Call or stop in at a location that does. They will take your photo and have it printed for you while you are in the store. The Rite-Aid associate I spoke with informed me they recently raised the price to $14.99 – still one of the cheaper prices on the list.

A Staples passport photo can be ready in minutes – no appointment needed!

For just $17.99 you can get two passport photos from Staples. Use the search function on the Staples website to find a participating location near you. Just stop on in – no appointment needed – and you’ll have your official photos in just minutes.

Even nonmembers can get a cheap AAA passport photo.

If you want to know where to get passport photos on a budget, visit AAA. Go during normal business hours and most full-service AAA Office locations will take your photo for you. Here are the costs according to the AAA website:

  • AAA Classic Member:  Pay just $8 per set of two passport photos.
  • AAA Plus Member:  The first two sets of photos are free to you and each of your minor children (age 15 and under).
  • AAA Premier Member:  All passport photo sets are free to you and each of your minor children (age 15 and under).
  • Nonmember:  You’ll pay just $12 per set of two passport photos.

Call your local AAA office for additional information.

You can rest assured that a UPS passport photo follows federal guidelines.

Participating UPS locations are happy to help you with your passport photo. Visit the UPS website to find a location near you. Pricing may vary by location, but most stores we called were offering them for $14.99.

FedEx Office Inside Walmart

FedEx will take your passport photo and even expedite your application.

FedEx charges just $14.95 for two photos. If you need both your passport photo and your passport in a hurry, FedEx is one affordable company to consider using!

The USPS passport photo process is tried and true.

If you need a passport and a passport photo, USPS is there to help. Call your local post office to schedule a time to have them take your photo or schedule an appointment yourself using the Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler. Passport photos cost just $15.

Getting the passport will be extra, but the post office can walk you through the application process step-by-step!

Your local library may even offer passport services.

Several libraries around the country offer passport services that include taking your passport photo. One of the local libraries near me charges just $12 for photos – one of the most affordable prices around. Check with your local library to see if they can offer you a good deal.

Check with your county clerk or township to see if they offer a good price.

Your local government may be willing to help you out with your passport and you can trust that their photos will meet the federal requirements! One local township near me will take a passport photo for just $10. Check with your county clerk or local government to see what price they can offer you.

Use an online service at your own risk.

There are a few online companies that claim to create passport photos that adhere to your government’s regulations. To avoid any hiccups or disappointments, we recommend trying the brick-and-mortar options on this list first.

If you think an online service is best for you, there are a few companies out there that are well-known or have even been featured in publications like Forbes. We have not used these sites, so try them at your own risk:

  • Photogov.com – Has a 4.7 rating on TrustPilot and your downloadable passport photo is FREE
  • Passport-photo.online – Has a 4.5 rating on TrustPilot and 2 photos cost just $16.95

Note: Passport-photo.online also operates under epassportphoto.com.

Here are a few places that no longer offer passport photos:

A Costco Passport Photo is a thing of the past.

Costco shut down their photo centers in January of 2023 and Costco customers can now use the services of Shutterfly. Unfortunately, Shutterfly does not print passport photos due to the strict requirements set by the government.

You can also no longer get a Sam’s Club passport photo.

After scouring the Sam’s Club website for information on passports and turning up empty, we gave a few local clubs a call. Unfortunately, it seems the popular warehouse is no longer offering photos. That’s too bad as they used to be one of the cheapest options around!

I submitted my passport through an appointment with the post office and had them do the photo as well and it was so easy! Our teenage daughter also went through the process there and each time we were in and out in probably 10 minutes. If you’re already submitting your passport there, for us it was so much simpler to do the photo there as well instead of having to go to a second place.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Glad to hear how easy it was to do through the post office, Sara! Thanks a ton for sharing your experience! ❤️❤️

  2. Ana

Thanks for this! I’m in the middle of trying to renew ours right now.
But my question is is I called Walmart and they quoted me that price for taking the photo and printing the photos?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome, Ana!💕 I do see the price for a Passport Photo from Walmart to be just $7.44 when you upload it yourself and choose same day pick up. Hoping that helps! 🥰

  3. B Mast

I took photos for my kids (babies) and printed 4 duplicates on one “photo” for .69 at CVS. The guidelines and instructions are pretty easy to do yourself.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks for sharing how you printed your photos on the cheap, B Mast! 🙌💕

  4. Betsy

At Walgreens, you can use Cash Rewards to pay for the photo. (No coupons or codes are available for passport photos.)

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

You’re right, Betsy! Thanks for mentioning this. 💗 I’ve added that to the Walgreens details above. 🤗

  5. Ana

Just took my own photos and had a wallet print made, which gives you 4 wallets on a 4×6 print. That way if you mess up cutting them, you have extra. It was less than $1.

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks for sharing how you were able to print your own photos and have extra if needed! ❤️

  6. JenK

Is the staples coupon for 1 person only?

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there JenK! It seems you can get 2 passport photos at participating Staples locations. No coupon needed. Hoping this is helpful! 💞

  7. John

I had my passport photo taken at AAA . It cost just over $8.00 for me. Also, here in Frisco, Tx we can apply for our passport at our library.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing about those options, John. I’m seeing them mentioned in the post as well. Glad you were able to grab your passport photo with your AAA membership. 💗

  8. Terry

In November 2023, I did everything online. You have to be renewing your passport (not getting your first one). When I applied online there was a step that allowed you to take your photo and submit it with your application. It took me a few tries before the photo was accepted, but I was glad to go paperless and not drive anywhere.

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

So awesome that you were able to renew your passport online, Terry! 🙌 Thanks for sharing this helpful information! ❤️

  9. PATRICIA

$21 passport photo at ups store yesterday.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing the pricing you spotted at your UPS store yesterday! ❤️

  10. Amanda

I downloaded the staples app and signed up for the rewards. I do not see the coupon for the free photo yet. Will the coupon be available on the app tomorrow?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

YES! Be sure to check back tomorrow! Hoping you can grab it! ❤️

  11. Melinda

Just called AAA and they changed their passport policy to $10 for members, including minors.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for letting us know, Melinda. It looks like the pricing may vary a bit by location when checking on this through different states. ❤️

  12. spi_cy13

My passport expires August 2026. Can I take the free photo tomorrow and hold onto it until I’m ready to renew in two years? Or, does the photo have to be taken the same year as the passport renewal?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there! Here’s a link to the U.S. Government site for more details on passport photos that may be helpful for this question! 💕

    • Amanda

I called my local staples and I believe you can only get one free photo per coupon

  13. Heather

The timing of this post is so perfect needing to get one for my family of four. The question I have is is there paper work to fill out before getting the picture? So could I go to the post office get forms take them home and then bring them back and then do the pictures? Or would we all go in together fill out forms and do the picture right away? So confused!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Glad this post came up at the ideal time, Heather! 🙌 You can click here to head to the USPS page on first time appointments to see all the necessary documents to bring to your appointment, and any additional details. ❤️

      • Heather

Thank you Jessica super helpful link!

        • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Yay, I’m so glad to hear that. You’re welcome Heather! 🥰

    • Anne Winkler

You can pick up forms from your local post office. You will need the forms completed when you go in for your appointment.

      • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for this helpful response, Anne. ❤️ Good to know you’re able to get the forms in advance. 🤗

  14. Pat Goff

Thanks. I am so glad that I don’t have to travel overseas anymore since my mother passed. Travelling is so hard now of days and it isn’t fun anymore like it used to be. Good to know as I might have to travel to Germany eventually for my Aunt.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome, Pat. ❤️ Glad this post was helpful for any future plans of traveling. 🤗 BIG hugs!

  15. Keri

Got my free passport photo at Staples. Super easy! They also had a $10 off $30 purchase coupon they gave me after the photo and found some great deals. Thanks so much!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

You’re very welcome, Keri! 🤗 So awesome that you scored a coupon with your freebie!

  16. Amanda

I called our local staples and they said you can only get one photo per coupon:(. I was thinking I read somewhere that we could get two free photos per coupon?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Amanda! I pulled up the coupon on the Staples app to check on this, and it does appear to be a limit of one coupon per customer under the terms of use. ❤️

  17. Sharples

    Excellent! Thank you!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      You’re so welcome! 🤗
