Yeah, no. After the stunt the pulled on 2/2 with the Lego’s, I am done with Walmart. Honestly, this is not a great deal anyway and their special anniversary sets are ridiculous in price. Only a collector or an AFOL is going to care about this set. Most regular kids will not care. Save your money, there are better lego deals to be had!

    • Nicole

Did anyone get a Lego set on 2/3? I stayed up until midnight Eastern Time and logged in at 12:05 and they were all out of stock already! 🙁

      • Heather

It didn’t start until 8 a.m. and sold out in 2 minutes

      • Kalynn

The post about it was full of about 200 comments. They did not become in stock until 8:00 am EST. They also sold out within 1-2 minutes. Many people had it carted as soon as it became available, but were unable to check out in time before they were all gone.

  2. lori

Thank you! Got one, I love vintage and I love kids toys! Great set to have for my kids now and to hold onto for grandkids in the future.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re welcome Lori!

  3. Lynsi

I have never bought legos before but want to buy some for my son for his 6th bday. Is this a good starter set or should I do the classic lego one with over 700 pieces that isn’t much more?

    • LIZ

      Lynsi,

Go with the classic that has more pieces. It is a much better value and as a first timer it is not worth buying the collector items. Another place to find legos, if you don’t mind buying them used is Once Upon A Child. Sometimes I find really good deals on the facebook market place but be careful buying anything that it not in bulk. Good luck!

    • vmm

if you want him to actually get into legos, I’d start with a “set” for something he’s into (dinosaurs, cars, super heros, etc) that has instructions and will get him from point A to B so he truly sees the fun in them. my kids have all needed the sets, for a couple years actually, to get sucked in and are now lego nuts. I’m sure this isn’t always the case but even my super analytical/creative one really enjoyed the sets best for a while.

    • Just passing through

Other commenters said 50 cents per piece is a good price point for legos. Hth

      • lovespring

ive always heard 10 cents per piece which is what i go by and get lots for this price. keep your eyes open for deals posted and you will be able to score this price.

      • Momof2

Target has a set for $15.99 – 303 pieces which makes them 5 cents a piece.

    • Chevysmommy

Also if you don’t mind used, look them up on eBay.

  4. Kristin Vaughan

What stunt did they pull ? I remember hearing they were going to offer the Lego sets at the original prices from back in the day, but forgot all about it.

    • Staci

The kits for the sale price never became available.

      • Alex

Some people DID get to Order, but may not have tracked correctly- regardless- I’m sure there were 1000’s of people on their site and app trying to order so it’s not surprising that it got messed up- would I have liked to have gotten one? Sure- but I’m not going to boycott Walmart and talk bad about them. It’s sad to see how people react over a $5 toy

        • Shawn

It’s not an overreaction to be upset about the deal they offered. I am in agreement that Walmart will not get much of my business if I can do it elsewhere. I called them on Thursday and talked to a customer service rep who had no idea what I was talking about then when I told there where on the website it was located he assured me they would be released at 12 am cst. Which was not the case. So before you talk bad about people’s reactions you shouldn’t assume that is iOS solely based on the fact they didn’t get one.

      • Angelina

They were available at 8 am central time, but sold out in less than a minute.

      • Jane

The Lego bundle for $5.66 were available. But sold out very quickly. I was able to get it. Mine has shipped.

        • Staci

Guess I just lucked out. I checked multiple times throughout the day and never saw any.

    • Megan

There was no “stunt”. They had a glitch in their system so it didn’t come up until 8 and sold out within minutes. They marked the item sold out on 2/2 so people couldn’t put a bunch in their carts and no one else would get a chance to buy them. People got mad. That’s all that happened.

  5. ShaJ

FYI the limited edition windmill is up now, if anyone was planning to get that.

  6. LIZ

It was never actually about a five dollar toy, although there are a ton of single parents that would have been thrilled to be able to get such a great set. If Walmart advertises something, they need to follow through. The whole experience was ridiculous, the customer service was awful, and people lost sleep trying to get a nice toy for their children. It was just a crappy experience as a whole, and for some of us it was the last straw.

    • staci

Totally agree. I was having black friday flashbacks.

    • SJ

You don’t need to be a single parent to enjoy a good deal 🙂

      • kait

        word 👍🏼

    • Ana

A ton of single parents??? What?

      • Emily

Maybe that’s why I couldn’t get the good deal. I am just a cool auntie! 😛

        • Ana

          Right? LOL

    • Amy

🙄 If you lost sleep over a toy that isn’t Walmart’s fault. You’re an adult and made your own choice.

    • Teena

I agree with Liz the whole thing was ridiculous. If Walmart is going to advertise they are going to sell an item on a certain day, they should have followed up with the specifics and provide some kind of customer service to follow it up. They are a billion dollar company and this was handled small time. They owe customers a big apology.

    • Vivian

I don’t know why people are so mad? It’s like a promo similar to Black Friday with extreme limited quantities! It was a crazy low price so I didn’t expect there to be many available anyways. What good is calling the company to complain? Would you call and complain about a Black Friday deal that sold out before you could buy it?

    • Sadie

Not just Wal-Mart has had issues with stuff that should be available and is not. I ordered a TV on Black Friday from Kohl’s. I received confirmation of the order and then confirmation of it shipping from Kohl’s and UPS. It never arrived. The reason by Kohl’s “that it was stuck in the warehouse” and “UPS never picked it up”. So release it for delivery if it’s stuck. Nope have to cancel that order and reorder but the tv was out of stock. They kept my $319 for over a month while they checked in the back office. Kohl’s really has gone downhill. Now if I wasn’t able to order the tv that would have been a bummer but the fact that I was able to order it, received the confirmations and they took my money but didn’t ship the item and I had to contact them many times was really crappy.

  7. Jennifer

Not after their site claimed it was out of stock at 10:50 and 12am

  8. kait

I feel like for the limited/super desirable items like the $5 lego set, the deal should be in-store only. At least then you could pull into the parking lot, see the line of 500 people, know your odds, and immediately leave. 😭

    • Alex

See- and I feel exactly the opposite-bc unfortunately these days people will go to the extreme for something like this and could get dangerous

  9. sue

maybe it’s just not worth the fuss

  10. lori

If you buy this set, make sure you go to lego60th.com to get the free collectable booklet!

    • Kathy

      Thanks!

  11. Sandy

I bought this set for my grandson and am now wondering if it’s worth the 29.99 price. The wheels are what i thought he would like as he’s building.

  12. Amy

Some Lego dc superhero girl sets are 50% off at amazon and toys r us.

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks, Amy!

  13. Sue

I am so glad I bought a 1500 piece set at Walmart 3 or 4 years ago for $30. I put it aside & my daughter is finally getting into it now. I think they had a 900 piece set for $20 this past Black Friday. They’ve had a bigger Lego set advertised the past few years for Black Friday.

    • Mel

Sue, I too, got a Black Friday deal this past year at Walmart and my kids love it. 900 piece set for $20. 🙂

  14. Amy

They are supposedly offering this deal again Feburary 7. Anyone going to try?

    • Regina

Yes, I initially saw it in the description but I do not see any other dates. I am going to stay up tonight refreshing and hope I can get one. Fingers crossed. If not, hey some hot deals go too fast so I’m not really expecting to get lucky just hoping.

  15. Sam

Trying now, says out of stock, any luck?

  16. Lisa

Just added one to my cart, and checked out with some yarn, with 10% ebates. Wouldn’t let me pickup so I had to ship select and get it to $35 for free shipping.

  17. Patti

OK. Was on right when it turned over to being available. I put a couple in my cart and by the time I went to check out…GONE! This is ridiculous. How can something sell out in 20-30 seconds?? There must be automatic purchasing happening. It’s ridiculous. Walmart should’ve known that this would be a big deal and planned for it. UGH

  18. Lisa

Try just checking out with 1. For some reason it wasn’t allowing me to get 2 in my cart. So maybe there is some kind of bug. I just looked and it is still available for me if I wanted to buy another one.

    • Lisa

Yeah I just tried buying another and it says you have reached the limit of a max of 1 for this item. So only 1 per account I am assuming.

  19. UpsetMom

Me too! Added to my cart and the second it took to click check out it was sold out! Frustrating

  20. Lwgo lover

When did Walmart release them online?

  21. Liz

I just tried again and it seems to have worked (although we’ll see if it actually arrives).

  22. Leslie

    The truck is available now!!!
