These Eye Makeup Remover Pads Do Nothing…

Similar to how we do our Try Me Tuesday posts with product recommendations, I thought it would be also fun to do basically the complete opposite. With that said, I introduce “Waste of Money Wednesday!” This post will be exactly that – the Hip2Save team will be sharing products that they aren’t happy with, products they feel are a waste of money – basically product UN-recommendations.

Hey There! It’s Angie – one of Collin’s sidekicks!

Ever been in a hurry?

I recently ran out of eye makeup remover and made a quick stop at Walmart to grab more. Well… since I was in a hurry, I grabbed the wrong kind. 🙁  And needless to say, Almay Gentle Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover Pads are definitely NOT my favorite.

Now I do have to say that my ALL time favorite makeup remover pads are the Almay Longwear & Waterproof variety. This product is the bomb and I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!

These two varieties look so similar on the outside (hence my mistake in purchasing the wrong one), but what’s on the inside is another story.

The oil free pads just do nothing for me, and getting my eye makeup off feels like a joke! I have to rub and rub the pad over my eyes, then wipe my eyes with a tissue and next to nothing comes off. Then I take a washcloth over my eyes and my washcloth is a nice shade of black. They just don’t seem to work well at all. Such a bummer!

With my trusty regular makeup remover pads (the Longwear variety), I am able to gently remove all of my eye makeup, simply by using the pad and then wiping with a tissue (of course I follow it with a washcloth but my washcloth isn’t black when I am done). Did I mention that they are wonderful? ❤

Sadly, I am going to trash this almost full container.

Have you ever thrown away an almost full/new product because you just couldn’t bring yourself to use it?

I’m a mary kay eye make up remover girl. Its the only product of theirs I use, but I LOVE it!

  2. Brenda O.

I actually had the opposite experience. The oil free pads work great for me but the others made my eyes blur. 🙁

  3. Lily Bug

It’s so funny reading through all the different comments about everyone’s experience. I was the same way-purple did absolutely nothing for me (wipes and liquid). Blue wipes were no bueno, but the blue liquid is a staple in my routine! Thanks for posting!

If I’m extremely disappointed in a product, I take it back to the store where I purchased it or I go to the company’s website and let them know why I wad disappointed in the performance.

  5. Kate

I used them just to take off the leftover eyeliner that is there when I wake up in the morning

Ditto! Every single day! One swipe and were good!

The oil-free Almay makeup remover pads are actually my favorite! I had the opposite experience once where I accidentally bought the oil ones and they felt so gross on my eyes!!!! Now, they do work better for waterproof makeup, but I usually wear Almay’s regular stuff and it takes it off fine.

  7. keesh

I just use rose water witch hazel and a cotton ball and that works the best for me .

    I couldn’t get past the smell…….so strong!

  9. Allison

I have used these for as long as I can remember and I love them. I won’t use a different eye make-up remover and might cry if they ever stop making them.

I love this idea for a new post however I think you should also include what mascara you’re using.

I avoid rubbing my eyes like you described, instead I use olive oil to remove Clinique High Impact Mascara. I wash the combo off with Christina Moss Organic Facial Wash. No blurry vision and easy to use every time.

I hate these too! They stung my eyes like crazy and I don’t have sensitive eyes at all. I’ve used many brands of wipes and have never experienced stinging with others. I got them super cheap with coupons when I tried them but now they’re a PASS!

  12. Candimomof3

Don’t throw them away. Use them to clean the grime in your bathroom sink around the faucet.

  13. Cherry luva

Soooo crazy! This is the one item I SWEAR by! I’m not a brand follower but these work wonders! Use them every single day when I get outside shower from the left over mascara. I can also use them more than once since there is not a ton of makeup left to clean up, the oil free is best.
Went to the store to get some, seen Burt’s bees has new makeup remover wipes with kiwi in them. They were on sale and cheaper than allay. With Burt’s bees wipes you have to press hard on your eyes to get the black marks to disappear and do a FEW swipes as apposed to almay almay for the win!

I have the opposite experience. we buy the one in the purple container. once i had gotten about 20 for free, so we got some blue, we gave them away because they didn’t work for us. my girls are performing ballerinas and we need a lot of make up wipes

  15. Kay

I recommend Kleenex makeup remover wipes. Found out thru Amazon sample box. Luv the dispenser n luv the shape of the pad

  16. Carina

I love the skinfix oil cleanser great make up remover or miscella water. But baby wipes work well too.

  17. Kaity

Mary Kay makeup remover is the absolute best. No need to mess with any other product. Tried these and they don’t come close. I don’t work for Mary Kay, just really passionate about their makeup remover!!

  18. *Angela-Miles*

Olay fresh effects are my go to wipes. They have scrubbing beads to scrub all the makeup off and smell amazing. My second favorite is ULTA sensitive wipes, they do pretty well also. 🙂 🙂 . Haven’t tried almay

No need to toss, Just add baby oil, is used that for years. Or coconut oil, I love that now.

  20. Steph-B

I use the Almay oil base(blue bottle) remover and use a Cotton ball. However, I use waterproof mascara because nothing is worse then crumbly drops of mascara under your eyes half way through your day! I just wash my face after I use the eye makeup remover so I don’t mind the oil base!

  21. Kelli

I have used the waterproof kind for many years and absolutely love them. But when I tried the oil-free ones a while back, they were absolutely awful. So I totally agree with this post.

  22. Connie Vasko

I really like these! Quick, easy eye makeup removal.

  23. Laura Simmons

I actually love those pads you hate. They are the only ones that don’t burn or irritate my skin, and they take off my mascara very easily.
