Are all cast irons the same? Never bought one before and want to know .

American cast iron skillets like Lodge are the best especially the old ones as the iron is smooth inside and cooks really good but you never want to use soap on cast iron just some salt and a scrubby such as a wad of tin foil and hot water. Dry off and lightly oil with cooking oil, make sure it is lightly as it will gum up if you don’t do it lightly and put in the oven on 200 degrees upside down for a couple or hours or you can just leave in the oven and the skillet will get seasoned more as you are baking. I have skillets that belonged to my grandmother and this is the way to season so they do not rust or stick. I truly love mine as they cook a lot of things so much better than any other skillet and I love to cook cornbread and biscuits in them. There are many wonderful videos on seasoning cast iron on you tube if you are interested in cast iron and when you cook with them they are really worth the trouble as the food tastes so much better.

No they are not. You can still buy smooth cast iron for a price. Which is the best. No matter the skillet make sure to season well and use a lot. The more you use it the better. Just like any other brand their are high end and low end. High end will run you about $175 for for a 14″ where as lodge is on the lower end at $60. I personally own a lodge and love it. It took about a year to get a good seasoning. I also make lodge. We make sure that there is a very specific mixture in the iron and have alarms for lead. I’m not sure what standards are set for overseas. Any American made set are usually good. People get turned off because they buy a cast iron set thinking they’re getting some magical non stick indestructible pan. That’s not the case. It cooks different than stainless steel and non stick. Once you master it you’ll never get rid of it. Keep in mind that it doesn’t replace your non stick or your stainless. It’s simply another tool in your shed. You wouldn’t use scissors to mow your lawn. Do your research and you’ll love it!!

I bought the same ones, it was 3 for $10. Only used once, never again did I use them. I wanted to wash the iron and then rust color started to come out.

If you wash with salt and water that should help take that rust color out. Then put a little bit of oil throughout the pan and stick it on the stove or oven with high heat till the cast iron has dried out. That seasons and dries the pan. Won’t get rust then

All the pieces are very small for a one or two person household.
