The spouts are I want to say silicone and do wear out with frequent use. You can purchase a pack of replacements (with or without straws) really reasonable without purchasing a whole new cup. We love ours, great easter basket and stocking stuffers.

These are great water bottles for kids ht if you want ones with straws that don’t get lost or need to be taken off or on all the time get Contigo water bottles! The straws stay attached with a cord so you never lose it
