We’ve got sad news to share… 😥

ToysRUs announced that they are closing all stores in the U.S., including BabiesRUs locations – the CEO, David Brandon, notified employees earlier today. No one knows how long the shut down will take, but sadly over 30,000 people will lose their jobs. You can read more about it here.

Can I use my Gift Cards?

If you have unused gift cards lying around, you will need to use them soon. It was announced on 3/15 that gift cards will only be honored for 30 days. An exact date was not given, but that is around April 13th.

When Does ToysRUs Liquidation Start?

ToysRUs liquidation will start on March 22nd and run through May 14th, at which point liquidators will come in and sell everything that remains. Be sure to keep a lookout for great deals on items that are rarely discounted, like apple products, select baby gear, name-brand toys and more!

So sad to see them close. The employees are always so great. We have gone to the different fun activities they always have (Nerf, Easter, ect) and birthday celebrations a few times and my boys and my nephews loved it! Going to miss those adventures and how the employees were so kind and fun to them..

Heartbreaking…toys r us been out for years

  3. Cassie

So sad! We have like 150$ in gift cards so heading to spend them now. Saw we have 30 days but needed to shop for my boys birthday.

  4. Jessica

Completely Heartbreaking…What a sad future with no toy stores for our kids to go to! I loved them as a kid and my son loves going there just to look around…it’s a place that gave us that youthful joy.

    • Sara

Exactly!!! I’m so sad I could cry. I grew up going to ToysRUs, it was the greatest place ever. Then when I had my son almost two years ago, I was so excited to take him. Now it’ll be gone and there are no more toy stores???! How depressing!!

  5. Sara

I have a question, if you have a ToysRUs credit card, what will happen? Will it just get closed out and you pay off the balance?

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Good question Sara! To find out more details on that you may want to ask over on their Facebook page Or call in to customer service. 1-800-869-7787 Hoping that might help!

      • Marylou

They will turn into plain MasterCard through credit card company. They will be sending out replacement without the toysru s or babiesrus go on them.

  6. jennifer

    I’m heart broken over this!
Where’s Marcus Lemonis? If anyone can save this company he can!

    • jpwilkinson

      haha! love that show

  7. Bob

CardKangaroo.com is offering all Toyrus gift cards at 13% off so you can save more with the liquidation sale!

    • Rainess

I don’t think you can use gift cards when stores are liquidating you need to use them before they officially liquidate.

  8. Victoria

Don’t forget to check your Rewards R Us accounts and use those up!

  9. Amanda

From what ours said i. Springfield Illinois is that it will be issued a new card but it will be through Mastercard with no Toys “R” Us logo on it

All of you crying about there not being any toy stores to walk through and look at things, are nuts! That’s the reason they are going out of business! Because people go there to see the toys in person and then buy them elsewhere. If brick and mortar stores would make things more affordable, people wouldn’t have to buy from Target, Walmart or Amazon. When are companies going to learn that buying in bulk saves money? No feelings lost here, even after growing up down the street from a ToysRUs.

    • Kim

Bryan, I agree that a lot of people walk through brick and mortar stores only to end up buying online because it is cheaper. However, a business like Walmart or Target has the room to buy 100,000 of a certain item and then disperse that item throughout it’s thousands of stores. A small brick and mortar store cannot even compete with that. First of all, where would they store 100,000 items? And then, a small brick and mortar store would not be able to move that much of a certain item off the shelf. I do my best to shop at small businesses even if that means I might have to spend a couple dollars more. For Christmas 2018, I have vowed to shop at a local toy store that offers free gift wrapping!! Besides that thousands of employees will be losing their jobs, I’m not sad that TRU is going out of business. About 60% of their inventory was what I consider “throw away toys”. Toys that look appealing in the box, but once you open them the kids just toss them to the side and never play with them again.

  11. monstermama

I can understand why. I went to the Toys ‘R’ Us near me this weekend, as Grandma wanted to buy my daughter a doll for Easter and the one she wanted was 25% off there. The sale price at TRU was $35, which sounded great until I realized the normal price was $30 at Target and $27 on Amazon :/ I’m disappointed they’re closing, and it’s sad they couldn’t find a way to be competitive with online-only stores and big box stores.

  12. Justine

An icon from my childhood. Sorry to see it go, and sorry for the employees who need to find jobs now. Oh, capitalism . . .

  13. Lisa

I’m surprised they haven’t closed sooner. Here in Indianapolis the one near me never does any business or it doesn’t look like it. No matter what time we drive past it there may only be 2-4 cars in the lot.

    • Megan

I’m in Indianapolis too. Went to the Castleton store a few times before/after Christmas and was pretty disappointed. Employees poorly trained.. had a cashier who was playing on her phone while checking me out and then couldn’t figure out how to process payment. When she asked for help the second time her supervisor snapped at her in front of everyone.

  14. Kelly

Went to my nearest store last night (30mins away) and NOTHING was on sale. I was hopeful to see a sale sign but nothing. I have a TRU credit card and they are still offering an extra 10% off on Thursday nothing else. I was rather disappointed. Meaning I’m sad to hear they are closing but at the same time am hopeful I can score some good deals 🙂

  15. jane

So sad, Its really time to support and shop at our local retail stores. Most retail stores will even PRICE MATCH,. Take a break from online shopping from e-commerce sites that are really controlling the internet.
    THIS HAD TO BE SAID.

    • Bryan

Why does the consumer have to do the work to price check?! Walmart and Target have employees who go to other stores and do that for them. If a retailer wants to stay competitive, they have to put in a little work themselves, not make the consumer find the deal. The TRU brand means nothing to me, they are just a store. If they don’t want to make their prices reasonable, that’s on them, this is their own fault.

      • christine

I agree Bryan, price matching is more hassle than its worth. why am I going to wait in line at customer service to price match at another store if I can just go pick it up somewhere else?

  16. Mike

I’m am so glad there closing, they been ripping us off for years with there 200.00 Teddy bears. Thank you Amazon!!!!!!!!

  17. CherrieChip

I’m mostly sad about babies r us closing! Registering there with my husband was such a fun memory. There are no other stores that are dedicated to baby stuff near us, and it was wonderful to be able to see the selection and pick out in person. I confess I didn’t shop at toys r us much because their prices were so high. 🙁

  18. Marian Langley

I popped into TRU today and barely anything was marked down or on sale! It was pathetic and as usual the store was dead and virtually empty.

  19. Judy Trac

can I still use my coupon

  20. Heather

I had $50 in rewards in my account. I cashed them out today, but was severely upset with it. I bought one of my daughters 3 pairs of shoes in store yesterday – they did not have them in my older daughters size in store, but I did find them online last night and added them to my cart. I went to buy them this morning and now all Koala Kids shoes are “out of stock online” but still say BOGO 50%. I had my mom go in another store today and they said since they have announced their closing dates, they aren’t honoring any of the published sales (BOGO 50%) – AND they weren’t on sale! They were all full price! You’ve got to be kidding me. I was livid. I ended up having her buy them anyways so my girls could match, but I’m sincerely upset about it.

The cashier also said today they were no longer accepting reward certificates BUT I had her try and it went through – but buyer beware that they may stop taking them soon!

  21. apwade21

    So sad 🙁

  22. Janet N

I took the grandkids yesterday. Hadn’t been there in YEARS. I can see why they are folding. Most prices were ridiculous. I won’t miss it.

    • Jenn

Just a heads up… my husband used the last of our gift cards last night. The cashier said gift cards would no longer be accepted after this Wednesday. I’m guessing each store may vary.

  23. Thama

So sad for the employees. But the prices are rediculous.
I have a giftcard to use. Hope they accept it until April 15th.

  24. Rosanne

FWIW, I read that Toys R Us is not legally required to accept their gift cards at this point, but they are choosing to, at this time. That could change, it’s their prerogative. Use any GC’s you may have now.

  25. Jennifer Kohm

Will they accept manufacturer coupons still?

  26. Jill

Does anyone know if the sales will be available online? My nearest store is several hours away.

  27. Pamela apodaca

    Sorry they are close

  28. Pamela apodaca

Sorry. For those. Employees that are going to lose their jobs

  29. Joanna

I want to get this step 2 outdoor toy should i get right away or wait a little? It’s original $599 and i really don’t want to pay that price.

  30. Jen

My local news just reported the liquidation sale is delayed, may start tomorrow instead.

  31. Judy Kious

I saw where it said the founder of this store passed away Charles Lazarus He was 94

  32. LB

Hope no one had rewards for them. You loose out on all of them. I called Monday & was told you have 30 days to use them. Went today to spend them & they said they are no longer taking them. If you have gift cards I would go now before they change their mind on those also. They can do what they want & you will be screwed.

  33. Julie torgersen

It is so sad. I was just there and just cannot believe that we will not be able to go there any longer. The other department stores have very limited selections in baby items as well as toys. Now we will be stuck with what the Walmart’s and Targets of the world decide they want to sell us instead of having a choice. TRU was about choices! I just don’t understand this decision! TRU is an icon!
I buy Koala brand baby cloths for my grandkids. They are so cute with a great selection and way less money than Carter. I really hope someone takes on their brand!
