anybody who’s thinking “this is a scam, it’s too good to be true”? I’m here to tell you, it’s NOT! Norwegian airline is the best deal out there. I have flown with them 5 times so far and going again this July. No, you don’t get a free meal on the flight, but you can eat before you get to the airport and bring your own snacks. They also let you bring on a small rolling suitcase free, so i’ve never paid to check bags. If it weren’t for Norwegian, I wouldn’t get to go to europe everywhere, and hence I’d be very sad without their awesome deals. Anyone thinking of doing this – don’t hesitate, go see the world for cheap!!!!

Lauren, we are doing Europe in September and just heard about NAL. Looking at all the baggage restrictions, yikes. I know those are navigable, but really need to be informed on them. We were looking at going from Chicago to Gatwick and there is a “low fare” rate of $219. We are still toying with it, but nice of you to post your experience. Wish us luck.

Thanks for the review! I was a bit shocked about the no meal since it’s a pretty long flight. Are these fare rates found throughout the year or just for st. Patty’s? Do you know of cheap fares within Europe? I’m headed to italy

    what are the baggage restrictions?

    • DSch

It is very complicated — best I can say! It depends on your fare (I think there were like 5 options). Then your carry on varies as well dependent on your fare. Then it is also based on where you travel to/from (as an example and if I understood it correctly, Chicago to London $65 for checked baggage). Again, need to be very informed, but if you want to fly cheap (no frills), it can be done.

This is fine if you prefer going to London via Gatwick airport, not Heathrow.

Used them 4 times in the past flying into Gatwick is pretty limiting; prefer to come in via Heathrow.

If you do your research you can get an airline that flies into Heathrow, and has baggage and food and seat assignment already built into the price.

Going to Dublin for $245 RT seems like a really nice deal. I’m so tempted.

I just flew with them two weeks ago and I was really really happy with the experience. I only went to London four 4 days so hand luggage sufficed and I didn’t have my kids with me, which would make it more complicated.

Just go with food for the flight and water. You can buy blankets but I took a shawl that doubled as my scarf in London and blanket on the plane.

    I would highly recommend it!

I flew NAL last month to Paris and Barcelona from LAX and was so impressed! Worth it to pay a bit to assign seats and next time I’ll pay to check a bag but will totally fly them again to London next year!

As an airline pilot – NAL severely undercuts pay and work rules are completely unacceptable. I would never put my family onboard. You get what you pay for and in this instance —- crew experience 😬

My friend from childhood times is a pilot too. When I raved to her about NAL (the parts not involving my luggage) she said the same thing. She asked me to pls consider not flying NAL again because of the tricky way they circumvent U.S. laws in how their crews are paid, etc. (she showed me a website explaining all of it). That’s how they are able to offer such low priced flights which, of course, are tempting to flyers. I have to admit, it’s a struggle to not be tempted by such offerings!

I live 2 miles from the NY airport that offers these deals. I’ve flown NAL to Ireland and my experience was fantastic. The plane was nice (as long as you don’t expect or insist on First Class amenities), the flight crew was super friendly and helpful, and the baggage was not an issue for us at all. Between 4 of us, we each took a backpack as our personal item (free) a carry-on size bag (free) and we paid to check one large bag which we all 4 shared for any overflow items and to have room to bring home souvenirs. We were gone 8 days and we were able to pack everything we needed. We took snacks on the plane with us and our flight was an overnight flight anyway so we’d already eaten dinner before boarding. And we arrived at 8am…perfect time to get breakfast…so food was never an issue. We will definitely be using them again! It was of interest to me that the reviews from ones who’ve actually used this airline are positive and the only negatives are from those who haven’t even used them…just something to keep in mind.

My husband and I and our two teen daughters are flying NAL into London for spring break in a few weeks, then home from Paris (taking the train between the two partway through). We are each taking a backpack for free and paid to check one large suitcase to share. Our airbnbs each have a washer and dryer, hair dryer, etc, so we’re not packing much. We will pack some snacks for the flight, but it’s an overnighter, so we hope to sleep through much of it anyway. I think Norwegian is the best of the budget airlines and am so happy with the deal we got. Looking forward to a return trip to Italy next.

    What amazing deals!

I flew Norwegian between Gatwick-London & Oakland-CA airports last summer on their “Dreamliner” plane. While the flight itself was very comfortable & the aircraft crew pleasant, their ground crew were HORRIBLE to me because I had overweight check-in luggage. I knew I would have to pay extra because of its weight but they were still VERY rude & unpleasant. A huge BEWARE and heads-up should you use NAL: they are VERY STRICT about your check-in’s AND your carry-on’s! For carry-on’s not only dimensions/size but their WEIGHT will be assessed & scrutinized too! Carry aboard a small but heavy bag and u will be called-out. Take aboard a large but lightweight bag and u will be called out. A large AND heavy bag? Be prepared to be HARASSED!

I’ve flown them twice to Europe. Great deal for the money. No issues, no problems. I’m flying to Milan for $170 again in July.
