Anyone have any experience with the nest and a heat pump?

I’m hoping for some insight on this too!

Yes!! We just bought 2 of these (upstairs/downstairs) in January because our heat strips kept switching on and running when it wasn’t needed. Our bills kept skyrocketing because of it. So I read online that you could adjust manually when you wanted the heat strips to come on. They were easy to install and our bill has dropped about $50 the past 2 months and we haven’t had any issues! We live in North Texas so we don’t have a lot of cold weather but we had some freezing days here and there.

Either my luck is horrible or this product has made a bad batch. Regardless, their customer service is terroble. I bought one on black Friday and it was faulty. We thought it was our hvac so had a tech come out who couldn’t figure it out. Paid a fee. The other comes out and said it’s the thermostat. We tried to get a refund but it had been past 30 days (when it got warmer the heat kept blowing. Wouldn’t switch to AC). Nest sent us another one after a frustrating and long wait time with their customer service. This time we decided to get an elite pro to install it which was $150 but extended the warranty from 3 to 5 years. When it got warmer outside we had the exact same problem and had the elite pro come out and he said it was the thermostat. We were under the impression that under the warranty we would be reimbursed for the elite pro to come and fix the thermostat. We were wrong. After an hour long frustrating phone call they finally agreed to give us our money back but refused to send any extra money for the techs coming out. We paid about $600 total for techs coming out to diagnose the problems and now we’re back to our old thermostat. If you get this, make sure to contact nest first if you have any problems and know that the wait time is long and frustrating and their customer service is not very great. We were going to have a Ring doorbell installed but after our dreadful experience with 2 faulty products and terrible customer service we will never purchase anything from nest again.

We have and love Nest thermostat! For me it was a little learning curve but my husband doesn’t agree with me on that 🙂 Anyway, you can control it from your phone too and while away from home – if you ever need too 🙂 I have also installed Nest camera in my baby room, super easy and love the live feed on my phone!

Our gas company gave us a free ecobee 4. They come to your home with products to help save money. Wrapped our water pipes, water saving shower heads and so much more. 100% free. We have DTE. Just call your gas company and ask if they have any similar programs!

Don’t forget to check your power company to see if they offer any rebates for these. PG&E offered me a $50 rebate after I purchased it. Took about 5 min online to submit the info and the receipt. And I got my check in the mail today, took about 2 weeks.

Thanks for the post Hip2Save. I was able to call the place I had purchased it from and get a price match. Saved me $20! We just moved to our new home in Alabama from California. Our California home has one and we needed one for this home. We left the one in California for resale purposes. We love them because we don’t need to get up in the middle of the night to change the temperature and we can adjust it while we are away from home.

Yay! So glad you were able to price match! Welcome to Alabama, by the way! That’s where I’m from. 🙂

Awesome!! We love it so far!
