Nine-year-old Hogarth Hughes (Eli Marienthal) lives in Rockwell, Maine, a seemingly idyllic town. Any review . I want it for 4 and 8 years old kids.
I remember seeing it years ago with my kids and didn’t like it. I just found a review that reminded me why:
age 10+
Great movie, bad language
I like the movie. Interesting story, engaging, funny, touching….etc. I grabbed it at the library one day, and had never heard of it before and thought it was a great family movie. Then….the language started. Lines like, “I don’t know what in the he-double hockey sticks (except they say the real word) it is”, repetitive use of “Oh my God” and “d@mn” are all in this movie. I just don’t understand this in a kid’s movie. We used it as an opportunity to talk to our kids…but nonetheless…if I knew I would have made them wait til they were older to see it.
I read through many reviews and didn’t see language mentioned, I don’t recall the language but even if it’s there, I’d definitely recommend it. My kids are the same age as yours and they watched it at a younger age. My husband and I enjoyed the movie as well.
This is a great movie! We just bought at Walmart and watched with my kids (2,4,5,7) and they were hypnotized! I remember loving this as a kid which is why we bought it. It’s a little scary in some spots, but didn’t bother my kids at all.
Aww, glad everyone has enjoyed it Veronica! My kids have liked this one too! Thanks for sharing!
Looks like it does have a little bit of language. Ginny was right. I find that this website below does a good job reviewing movies for the little ones.

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen it, so I don’t remember the language. It is a really really good story though. I highly recommend it.
