Here’s an awesome work from home job opportunity…

Head over to VIPKID.com where they are currently hiring teachers who love working with kids, are passionate & enthusiastic, and are motivated to work with a promising company that is growing at a fast pace in China!

In fact, they’re ranked #1 on Forbes 2017 Top 100 Work from Home Companies!

What is VIPKID?

VIPKID provides an international learning experience to children in China between the ages 4-12. The company is headquartered in Beijing and offers fully immersive one-on-one English language instruction provided online by qualified teachers. The curriculum is based on the U.S. Common Core State Standards and uses a flipped-classroom approach to foster creativity and critical thinking skills.

5 Perks of working for VIPKID:

  1. Flexible Schedule
    • You can work from home or anywhere else that you want! You’ll be able to set your own schedule and work as little or as many hours as you’d like. It is recommended that qualified teachers be available for at least 7.5 hours of teaching time per week.[/h2s_coupon]
    • No lesson plans OR grading
      • VIPKID provides the lesson plans for you to choose from. They even do all the communicating with parents so you don’t have to! You just need a computer and passion and skills for teaching.[/h2s_coupon]
      • No Education Degree Required
        • You don’t need a degree in education in order to be a VIPKID teacher! All you need is a bachelor’s degree in ANY field AND one school-year of traditional teaching experience or the equivalent in mentoring, tutoring, or alternative education.
      • Earn up to $22/hour from home!
        • Qualified teachers will teach English to young students online and will make between $14-$22 per hour. Your minimum pay will be determined by your demo class performance, and incentives by your monthly class participation and completion.
      • No teaching HUGE classrooms
        • Do large classrooms intimidate you? No worries! All VIPKID classes are one-on-one to ensure they meet 100% of each student’s needs.

      • Check out what Hip2Save readers think…

I know that each person’s experience is different but I had a very good beginning. I started teaching half way through a month. I got classes starting 3 days into my contract and I made about $500 the first month. My highest month to date has been about $1,600…money that I could not make any other way. It has been an awesome opportunity for me. I haven’t had to rearrange the rest of my life for it. I simply get up early. No other job has ever been this rewarding with so little inconvenience. I wear yoga pants to work everyday in my basement. I consider that pretty awesome!

I’m a current VIPKID teacher but have only been with them for a little over a month. I’m in Ohio and I teach from 5:30-6:30 every morning and on Friday and Saturday nights I teach from 8:00-9:00. My hours are only limited because I have 4 young kids and I only teach while they are sleeping. I also like to still be able to spend time with my hubby before going to bed. You set your own hours. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to make some income while not taking any time away from my family.

I’m a stay at home/single/homeschooling mom and this has been the biggest blessing! I’ve been teaching for almost 6 months. I do it on my own time, before the kids get up and can work as much or as little as I want. The hours are hard in Arizona, but it’s so nice to be done for the day by the time my kids get up.

    • sarann27

Fingers crossed you get one soon! You will love it!

    • Mamamia

Try getting a chrome book. Usually they can be found under $150

  2. LC

I have been thinking about doing this ever since it was posted last summer.. I would love to hear from others who are teaching with this company!

    • Natalienichole4

I absolutely LOVE working for VIPKid! I love being able to set my own schedule, I truly enjoy getting to know the students and the extra income is a very big blessing to us! I would be happy to answer any questions you have! Email: MSL0207(at)gmail(dot)com… (that’s a number code, zero two zero seven).

      • LC

Thanks for the feedback! I will be emailing you 🙂

      • Tammy

Do you have any tips to get bookings? Do we have to do the workshops in order to get classes booked? I’ve been with them for 2 months & haven’t had any bookings yet. Thanks in advance!

        • Melissa

Tammy, I have referred a few teachers and when they are hired I ask my regular students to try them out. One of my referrals did not have a booking for a few weeks, so after I asked a few parents to try her and they left good feedback, she is now getting more bookings. Ask the person who referred you if she could refer to you a few students. It will help a lot 🙂

    • Jessica

Just do it!!!! I know it looks scary to begin with… but the job is awesome. I have created genuine teaching relationships with kids on the other side of the world. I love seeing my regular students each day! The hiring process is stressful, but the job is worth it!

It’s really unfortunate that a bachelors degree is required. I was a linguist for military intelligence and I know 9 languages. I have an associates degree from the best language school in the world— do they ever waive the education requirements?

    • Julianala

Sometimes they do, but you need special permission. Do you have any teaching experience?

      • Theresa

I am interested also. How do I go about getting special permission?

  4. Sara Perry

I’ve been working for VIPkid for a few months now and I love it! The only requirements are a bachelors degree and having some experience with kids (my only experience is being a mom). I wasn’t sure if I would like it or be any good at it since I’m not a real life teacher but its going really well. They only hire about 10% of applicants and I would not have passed the interview without help, so let me help you! I also have some tricks to get bookings. My email is saraiperry@hotmail.com and I’m available to answer any questions and I can also facetime. Please use my referral link to apply. https://t.vipkid.com.cn/?refereeId=10763585&refersourceid=a01

  5. Vicki

Do you have to have a teaching degree to qualify? I would love to do this. I am a stay at home mom, and I have a bachelor’s in journalism and an English minor. But, l don’t know any Chinese.

    • Loretta G Schaefer Orozco

Vicki, VIPKID requires a Bachelors Degree. Teaching experience is a plus but you do NOT have to have a teaching degree. Also, since this is an “ESL” English as a Second Language you don’t need to know Chinese, just English. It’s pretty awesome.

      • Sara Perry

I meant there’s no need to learn Chinese lol

    • Jessica

You don’t need a teaching degree but you do need experience with children. Things like nannying, your own children, Sunday school, tutoring, summer camp, etc. Make sure to list extensively all your experience with children in your application.

  6. Jennifer

Support a communist regime? No thank you. There a bunch of lazy Americans who will not care that they are supporting a country who forces abortions on women, just because they are lazy and want to sit at home.

    • Anna

I guess I work full time plus teach online so I can support others in my own country who are lazy and want to sit at home. Just because you teach students from another country online does not mean you support their regime…..or mean you are lazy. Quite frankly I teach 2-4 classes each morning then go work my full time teaching job, then come home and take care of my family. Sounds pretty lazy to me.

      • Anna

I think this is a great gig for stay at home parents…..if they were able to offer insurance and retirement benefits I’d LOVE to stay home and do it full time!

      • Jacinda

I too get up now 2 hours earlier during the week and teach 2 to 3 classes a morning. Get my kids ready and the myself. Head to my FULL TIME UNDERPAID teaching job. Teach all day and then take care of my family before restarting the next day. Oh and weekends? What are those? I get up and teach BOTH days about 7 to 8 classes and then start my day with my kiddos waiting for me to be done! If that is lazy…. then man I don’t know what to do with myself!

        • CW

Very well put Jacinda! And Anna if these lovely ignorant critics actually spent their energy supporting our US teachers for higher pay, none of us would need second (and third) jobs! Not to even mention these ELL learners and their families are far more supportive and value education more than most of those ignorant critics and their kids who make ignorant comments….

    • Kris

      Wow

    • v

Wow! When I read your comment I wanted to make several comments to you, but instead I just feel bad for you. To all the stay-at-home moms/dads, there are many people out there that couldn’t do what you do, nor should they.

      • Anna

This is a GREAT gig for stay at home parents. If they offered insurance I would definitely be staying home and teaching more!

    • April

Yikes! You will not be heard or understood, even if you have a valid point, when you put people down. Not the way to inform people of something to you believe in.

    • Christina

      Type…delete…type…delete
      Pray for Jennifer 🙏🏻

      • KR

        Love your reply, Christina 🙂

    • Jamie

Wow. What a close minded individual you are.

    • KR

      Dear Jennifer:
Teaching kids from China does not necessarily mean supporting a regime you don’t agree with – teaching and learning other languages is a way to foster cross-cultural understanding and tolerance. Only a world where we don’t know or understand each other is a world where we might feel justified in being scared.

    • Mandy

Ohhh Jennifer… Bless your little heart!

    • TwinMom74

      *They’re 😉 also… you’re fun at parties I bet!

  7. Anna

I have been teaching with VIPKID since December and really enjoy it. I can say the best thing has been the fact that I feel successful with the teaching. For the most part, the kids are great and the parents are very supportive. I am a full time teacher and currently teach 12-16 time slots per week(half hour time slots). The pay is great and it is always on time if not early. The most frustrating part can be getting your time slots booked at first, but once you get going and start getting people to follow you, you shouldn’t have any issues getting your slots filled. I actually signed up after reading reviews on here so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions-I promise to be honest and not sugar coat things for you! anna.martin2012@gmail.com

. This is an incredible company to work for – flexible, fun, profession, and perfect work from home job!
I have been working with VIPKID for a few months now. I started it on a whim and quickly fell in love with it! The kids are so cute and have so much respect for their teachers. I work full time and teach either before my kids wake up or after they go to sleep. It’s wonderful! I love that I set my own hours, and you can make up to $22 an hour!!!
If you would like to be a stay-at home parent or just make some extra cash in addition to your full time job, VIPKID is the job for you! Feel free to contact me with further questions. I can answer any questions you may have and guide you through the hiring process.

  12. Carol

I’ve been with the company a few months. It’s not for the “lazy!” I haven’t made a lot of $ because they have hired thousands of other teachers, though. Hoping it picks up more in the summer! The job is a lot of fun!

  13. Jessica

These are CHILDREN we are teaching!
We are helping them have the opportunity to learn a language that can expand their horizons and teach them about the world outside. They can use that to change the future! Just like our own children, they need to be filled up with goodness in order to grow up and add value to the world. This is my chance to give goodness to another child that needs it. And they give it to me as well! They are sweet, hard working children with parents trying to help them make the most of their opportunities. I would hate for someone to judge my own children based on our current government. They are not the same thing!

    • Jessica

I meant this as a reply to Jennifer. Not to everyone. Sorry about that!

      • m

Let’s all ignore Jennifer and maybe she will go away. She probably felt cool sitting behind her computer, trying to get everyone riled up. I feel bad for bitter people like that.

  14. Melissa

I’ve been working for VIPKID for almost 2 years now and have taught over 1800 classes. It has been a blessing for me to stay at home with my kids during the day and work evenings and mornings without paying for childcare. The hours can be hard, but the schedule is completely flexible. You open times you are available to teach and students book you. There are no minimum hours so you can work as much or as little as you like. I would love to help you with the interview process. I have helped 3 hip2savers this past month get hired. Email me with any questions
    melissamcampbell@gmail.com
teachers do get a small bonus for new hire teachers that we refer :0

  15. Jacinda

I love working with VIPKID! I do it as a part time job to help us get out of debt. I teach Kindergarten during the day. There are so many fun and amazing things that are different about this job than teaching in a classroom but also so many of the same! I’d love to help answer any questions for those of you who may be thinking about it. I was on the fence for over 6 months before I took the plunge and am so glad I did! Email me at jacinda.claibourn@gmail.com

  16. Mal15

Do I have to get a headset before applying and if so, where do I get one?
Also, do I need a fast WiFi speed?
I started the application but had to stop and finish later. I hope that’s okay.
    Thanks!

    • Jacinda

You can use ear buds that you get with your cell if you don’t want to purchase anything before you get the job! I bought a $15 headset from wal-mart when I started the process in December! I have WiFi and I think it does fine! I don’t connect to the cord but I am in the same room as my router.

    • Heather

A headset would be very helpful to have, since it reduces the echo. Do you have earbuds? Those would probably work just fine for the interview, but you will definitely want headphones for teaching.

I think the recommended speed is 20 mbps, but I have seen comments from other teachers that they would not teach with less than 30 mbps. –30 is the current speed that I have with my service provider and it seems to do the job just fine for me.

Don’t worry about the application process….It can be intense. I took my time and finished the interview process in 3 weeks. = )

    • Juma

Mak15 if you would like to get a pair of headphones headset inexpensive try Five Below they have a nice assortment of them. Good luck

  17. simplymsbee

I have heard that the interview process is very stressful. I’ve been wanting to try it out, but I am kind of intimidated by what I have read/heard.

    • Heather

Go for it! –Watch the youtube videos and practice, practice, practice! I was very intimidated too, even with having ESL experience. I went through the process on my own, but in retrospect, think it is helpful to have a mentor. There are so many things I have learned along the way. Nancy Taylor and Angela Silva have some great information on youtube, if you are considering it.

  18. Gilly

Can someone comment (anonymous if you don’t feel comfortable) on how much you are making? Thanks. Do you make money while just being available?

    • Me

It depends on your availability. The prime hours right now are (7am-8am). While this is a great opportunity, it will take time to get bookings. They just hired a lot of teachers. You are basically a “sole proprietor”, so you will be building your own business. I make around $500/month, because I work part time. It took me about 3-4 months to get a “regular” schedule where I get booked consistently.–Although some teachers get booked from day 1, this is more the exception than the rule.

    • Emily

I started at $19/hour last year & I got a raise at the year mark to $20/hour.

    • Stephanie

You do not get paid for being available however you can get a “bonus” for teaching so many classes a month. It raises your payrate by $1 for that month if you teach over that amount.

    • Jessica

I make on average $1600/ month. I could make more if I worked more. I was booked right away. I know that some aren’t. I have 40-50 classes (30 minutes) a week. I keep a pretty regular schedule. I work 6-8/9 am CST every day. And 7/8 – 10 pm CST on Friday and Saturday night. If I have plans for something on a weekend evening, I simply don’t open those slots. No need to ask permission or change anything. I just don’t offer myself for those times. The amount I am working is the amount I have for my own financial goals. If ever those changed I feel confident that I could work more and fill up those slots. There are several people on Facebook that discuss how many hours they work and how much they make. Try the VIPKID Newbie Support Facebook page for more info. Hope that is helpful.

  19. S

**This is a great opportunity for those you have some time to build a business, as it can take a few months to get booked solid. I would love to help anyone who is “on the fence”. Please don’t let the interviewing process intimidate you.

**I am happy to share the information I have learned over the past few months:
    -how to increase your bookings
    -technology requirements
-a Chinese phrase for your trial bookings
    -pacing yourself on the slides
    -interview tips

Please email me at scooterdouglas1@hotmail.com with any questions.

  20. Dee

I am Curious why there are referral links? Do you get paid to recruit as well?

    • Natalienichole4

Hi Dee! We get a one time bonus for a successful referral. The interview process is very thorough so it’s nice to have a “mentor” to help you get through it. It’s like the company’s way of saying thank you for bringing them more great teachers.

  21. Mari

Any work at home opportunity for those without degrees?

  22. AS

Anyone work here who is not/has been a K-12 teacher? I teach in higher ed and I applied here. While they say you don’t necessarily have to have K-12 experience, certifications, or specific licenses, I felt like not having any of these things factored in my not being hired.

    • Melissa

Apply again with a different email address. They want you to have some teaching experience with kids, but not necessarily as a brick and mortar teacher. I was never a classroom teacher, but worked with kids as a tutor, in church, and volunteered at schools. Just word your resume carefully and you should get through to the interview. Any other questions feel free to email me melissamcampbell@gmail.com

I’m still hesitant about giving my bank account & social security number to someone in China.

    • J

This! This is what is holding me back from finishing my app!

    • Sara Perry

I know people that have been working there for years and never had any trouble with giving the bank info and SS#. They are a legitimate company and have US branches as well. Don’t worry! Email me with any questions and I can help you get hired saraiperry@hotmail.com.

  24. lynn

I have worked with them for almost 6 months. Attendance policy is strict. They have hired everyone I know with a bachelor’s degree, I do not think the process is difficult to hire. Setup a separate bank account exclusively for your direct deposit. There is a referral bonus for new hires, I feel it should be split with new employee.

  25. Kris

Just a reminder, working for VIPKID, you are an independent contractor. You will have to pay income taxes (federal and state, if applicable), plus self employment taxes (social security and Medicare). This isn’t much of a big deal if you set aside money to pay this. Just a reminder so people aren’t shocked at tax time 🙂

  26. Brian

Is this job position open to US citizens only?

    • Jessica

It is for those with a “North American” accent. There are employees that live all over the world. But they all speak with some variety of a North American accent. So if you speak English, but have an Australian or British accent, you would not qualify.

    • Sara Perry

You must legally eligible to work in the US or Canada

  27. Rachel

    What’s the #2 company? I don’t have a bachelors degree

    • Kris

Appen. They’re a technological services company.

  28. Kristy May

I have been with VIPKid for 6 months now Being a b&m teacher here in the US, this had been a fabulous experience to see another culture and their value on an English education. Please feel free to join my facebook group “Sweet Tea and VIPkid” if you are interested in checking out the process.

  29. Razzies

There was a post a while back about various work from home opportunities. Please repost if possible. Thanks.

  30. Kyliejay!

This looks so fun! I bet the kids are adorable!

  31. marie

    Are there any benefits?

    • Sara Perry

No benefits. It’s an independent contractor job.

  32. Patty Cestone

Working for VIPKID has been an amazing experience! It is literally the most flexible job I have ever had, and it’s from home! Pay is $14-$22 an hour depending on your experience, teaching classes on time, etc. You can email me at vinnynpatty@verizon.net and I can walk you through the hiring process!!! You can apply through my referral link which is https://t.vipkid.com.cn/?refereeId=15212734&refersourceid=a01
or you can use my referral code which is 09227Y, The first digit is a zero. Email me with any questions :-).
