If you are on the fence about this kindle I was too. I love books I love holding them and smelling them and feeling them, but they are just too bulky. I tried a kindle fire and never used it as a book because of the glare. My sister got one of these paperwhites and she loved it. She demanded I try it out and I fell in love. I am nearsighted so I donโt use my glasses to read, the print size and the backlight can all be adjusted easily to your liking. I keep mine very dim and Iโve not had issues with tired eyes etc from the backlight. I took this to the airport and it connected and worked fine on public as private WiFi networks I also forgot my charger and the battery lasted the three weeks I was away. I have borrowed several library books on this so far and it works great for the purpose. Some formats are not supported by this kindle, but there are free conversion programs that will change PDF files to EUB. I regret scoffing at the kindles years ago for the kindle fire that ended up getting tossed in a drawer. Sometimes having all the bells and whistles distract you from the main reason you bought something. I have successfully finished so many books since getting my kindle than I have ever read since graduating school. I really had forgotten how joyful reading is and now I take the time to read at least a chapter each day.
Oh wow! Thanks a bunch for your awesome review on this Melissa! I too have always liked the way a real book feels and smells! LOL! This sure sounds like a great reading item to have! My Mother In Law has one and really enjoys reading with hers. I may need to score one for myself as well! ๐
Don’t forget you can borrow books from the library with your Kindle. I still have a gen 1 paperwhite that is used daily and hasn’t been babied. I keep thinking about getting a new one since it lags just a bit sometimes, but then a quick reboot and all is well again.
79.99 is the lowest price I’ve seen the paperwhite so far.
I also highly recommend this version. I like to read before I fall asleep and the light on my night stand bothers my husband. The backlight is perfect for this so my husband can sleep comfortably while I enjoy a book. I never pay full price for books either with all the Amazon deals ya’ll post and the library’s ebook lending service. ๐
Amazon won’t let you order more than 2. Does anyone know – can you place separate orders for additional ones or are you only EVER allowed to buy 2? We’ve got 4 kids and are looking to purchase one for each of them before moving overseas.
