FREE 1-Year National Parks Membership for Families with 4th Graders
Have a kiddo in 4th grade?
If your child is in 4th grade (or homeschooling equivalent) this year, then your family is eligible for a FREE 1-year National Parks Annual Pass good through August 31st, 2018!
The pass grants free access to national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and more for your 4th grader plus all children under 16 and up to three adults! And you can use it as many times as you’d like!
Are you a 4th grade teacher?
4th grade teachers and adults who lead youth-serving organizations (think home-schooling co-op, camps, youth groups, etc.) can print passes for your entire class plus download fun activities.
Anyone willing to let me borrow their 4th grader for a year?
Ha! Right here!! 9 going on 19….
Haha!! I hear ya!
We used this a few weeks ago in Yosemite. They treated my son like a celebrity. It was super cute.
Oh how neat!! Glad to hear what a great experience it was for him! Thanks for sharing!
My oldest is on 3rd grade, been waiting on this for a while! I can’t wait until we can use it!
Same here Jessica. We’ve can’t wait for next year!
This is seriously and awesome program. We went to Yosemite over the winter break and my 4th grader was so excited to get the pass. We will definitely be checking out more national parks this spring and summer.
Just register and print the pass for my 4th grader. It said that it expires August 31, 2018.
So you should get this if they are entering the 4th grade?
I don’t think so because it expires in Aug 2018.
Thank you that makes sense
I’m a 5th grade teacher, but I shared this with the 4th grade teachers at my school!
Awesome! Glad you could pass this along to them Nicole!
So where exactly can we use these? I put in my zip to see where to plan my trip and one the the places was the fort worth zoo. So does them mean we would be able to get free membership into the zoo? There was also a lot of wildlife sanctuaries. All of these is free entry?
I love these.. our whole family went camping a few years back with free campsites in Glacier National park in Montana. Last week we saved $54 and got free tix to climb the Jupiter, Fl lighthouse just for having a kid in 4th grade.
it’s interesting you were able to get free campsites from it. the rules on their site says “The pass doesn’t cover things like parking fees, camping, boats, and special tours.” For us, if just visiting and passing through a day trip it’s great as it covers our entrance fees into the park, but if we plan to go camping, the entrance is already included in the camp fee that we pay. We used the pass for a family day trip to Zion national park. Saved us a lot, and we all had a fantastic time. Very nice program.
If someone in your family is permanently disabled, that person can get a lifetime pass for free if you apply in person. You can also apply at sites with no entrance fee.
You can apply based on physical and mental disabilties. If the disability isn’t visible, you will need to provide proof. A letter from SSDI or VA works. A letter from a doctor works as well. I got my card and hang tag holder immediately.
At sites that charge per vehicle, it is good for one noncommercial vehicle as long as the disabled person is in the car. At sites that charge per person, it is good for four people including the disabled person. If on a motorcycle/bicycle/on foot, it is only good for the disabled person.
Yes! I tell veterans about the disabled program. Also tell active military about the military program. And I told every older person I knew about the national parks senior pass before the price changed.
That is really nice! Thanks for sharing Sara and Lo!
Don’t forget about the Junior Ranger program. I believe all national parks and national monuments have this free program available. It’s often a booklet with activities that children complete. Once complete, children can earn a Junior Ranger badge by presenting (or sometimes mailing) the booklet to a Park Ranger. It’s been a fun experience for our family to collect badges as we travel.
My son will be in 4th grade for the 2018-2019 school year. I really hope they continue the program! I would imagine that August/September would be the sign-up for the year. We used it in Florida for my other son two years ago and it was great!
How do I get a pass, my son is going into the 4th grade
I just went to send this to my sister-in-law and realized that my niece is in 6th grade! How did that happen so fast?
Oh goodness! Yes, they sure do grow up quickly!
Will this pass work at the park if your 4th grader is not with you?
The child must be with you, they ask when you present the card.
Gotcha. Thanks
Used thisnwith my oldest (who is now 6th grade), we took a homeschool road trip! My 2nd child will be 4th grade next year, hope it’s still around!
If we have kids entering the 4th grade 2018/2019 year…we’d apply as early as the day after Aug 31 (current expiration)? A fall time trip, or Spring break would be great to use this, in addition to the summertime. Thanks for any feedback 🙂
I just sent this to my staff at school! What a great perk for their students’ parents!
Loved this! Go my family of 9 into Bryce Canyon and Zion’s Utah over spring break and saved us a lot of money. They made my little 4th feel pretty special and important to get his whole family into the National Parks. I don’t know that all the places do it but they gave us a plastic card to last the rest of the time and then my 4th grader signed it.
Super Cool. As our 4th grade daughter finishes her school year exploring “Walk
Through California” this pass will entertain our family engagement exploring California’s rich history this summer. Thank you for your support!!! 😉
