Sears and Kmart are closing more stores across the U.S.

Shop at Sears or Kmart?

Sears is closing more stores, specifically in Chicago (IL), Wilmington (NC), and Youngstown (OH), as well as Kmart stores in Brandon (FL) and Saugus (MA). Most stores will be closing between May, June, or July, according to layoff notices just filed by Sears.

The company is also selling 16 other stores in an online auction, advertised as sale-and-leaseback deals, including locations in Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Texas.

If your store is closing, keep your eyes peeled for possible liquidation sales!

(Thanks, Ben!)

    🙁

  2. Just passing through

I’m not surprised. They may be going the way of toys r us. I’m the only one I know who shops there.

  3. Jennifer

Ugh…my Sears is one that is for sale…not good!

  4. Aimk

My store is closing too… mansfield, ohio.☹️

    • Lo

Oh no!!! That’s mine 😩. What will be left at our mall besides the hospital

    • nickyB

I’m from Mansfield too. We hardly have anything here anymore.

  5. Kat

When our Sears store closed last month, our NTB did, too. Same owner. It’s sad.

  6. Becky M

Springfield, MO store is for sale. We had 3 KMart stores that they already closed. Sears was the last hold out. Great.

    • Sara

I used to live in Mountain Grove. This sucks for anyone that lives along Hwy 60. I now live in Baton Rouge, LA. I think the only reason our remaining Sears hasn’t closed is because Baton Rouge is the capital. The closest Kmart was in Gonzales, and it closed April 2017.

I am from Wilmington NC and the mall there is almost nothing you basically have to go out of town to shop like to Myrtle Beach or Raleigh !!! And that city has a bad opioid problem and it doesn’t help even more stores, factories and businesses are closing toy r us and now sears that’s sad for all the employees around there !!!

Everytime I see a post from them I hold my breath! I Love Kmart/Sears ….they have some great deals and point offers. I’ve really ramped up my shopping at them the past couple years to give them the business! Wiping the sweat off my forehead after this, my store was not on the list this time. Shewww!! Sad for the stores that are tho :-/ 🙁 :-/

Same here, word for word! I just got a $300 trampoline for $150 two days ago thanks to sal s, points and freecash. We’ve had a bunch close, but still a few hanging on. Sorry for those who are losing their stores. 😕

      • *Angela-Miles*

That was a nice deal on the trampoline! Last October i got a patio set on sale for $200 that was originally $379 (earned points also) and it’s really nice. Came with the pillows, chair cushions and everything, I love it. They will continue to get my business!! So depressing hearing about these store :-/ :-/

it is sad watching the painful and slow death spiral…….these stores that we had around when we were growing up are slowly dying out. :o(

    • mckeeversmom

I so agree…I remember shopping with my mom and grandma at Sear’s buying back-to-school clothes and outfits for Easter. My mother actually had a Kenmore washer that was so old (and still running) that my dad bought her a new one before he died so he knew she’d be taken care of in the laundry department after he was gone!
When our KMart closed a little over a year ago I heard a shopper comment that it was sad people who were shopping the going-out-of-business sale weren’t there to shop every day so maybe there wouldn’t be these types of sales. I so agree.
      Just sad.

      • Tia

        What a dad you had!

      • starkissed01

I agree!! My local Kmart just closed and it was packed every day AFTER they announced it was on the closing list.

Sears is more rundowned than the local Walmart in the inner site here. I hate seeing how dirty it is & the ppl opening packs of socks (& stealing them!). It’s so sad. I grew up wanting to work at Sears as it was such a huge landmark near my childhood home. So sad.

I also hold my breath as I read each post like this! My question is where are we going to shop? I don’t buy many clothes online as I have to try things on before I buy. There are already only a few stores left at our small local mall and I can’t imagine what’s next! I like Amazon as much as the next guy but this stresses me out!

    • Susan

I feel the same way- I like to try clothes on before I buy! I’m really bummed that retail stores are having so many issues to stay opened. I like to go shopping in real stores. I’m not a big online shopper. I like to see and feel the quality of things, etc.

    • *Angela-Miles*

Not a big online shopper here either! I do buy a few things every now and then but for the most part I like to see and purchase stuff instore. Feel like I’m becoming the odd ball out wanting to shop in a department store over online shopping. 🙁 Such a sad trend :-/ . At least hobby lobby is still around Lol…I can spend hours in that store

  12. Scott

Also find this sad. I have scored so many free. nearly free items and bargains at Kmart and Sears with ShopYourWay I have often wondered how they continue to give SO much away. Kmart is now gone in my area and out last remaining Sears store has limited merchandise. It is very sad to see a Sear’s store with a nearly empty tool department. I can’t even get replacement blades on a new tool I bought at Sears less than 1 year ago. I can’t but them online or mail order either. I may just be out of luck. I still like Sears I wish things were different.

    • Sue

I totally agree with what you are saying about replacement parts. My mother bought a humidifier at her Kmart. When it needed a replacement filter, they didn’t carry them. I managed to find two of them at my Sears, which is very low on inventory and hanging on by a thread. I’m not sure where to go after she uses up the filters that I managed to find.

  13. Di

Which ones in Chicago are closing?

    • Ben

The last store in Chicago is closing at six corners!! Irving Park/Cicero/Milwaukee

  14. Hope

I never liked Sears but I’m super bummed about Kmart closing. Not because it was well maintained or had good customer service….but I did get good deals.

  15. MrsK

Thank you. Mine was not on the list. Sigh of relief.
    Thank you.

    • *Angela-Miles*

I thought the same…Thank you, thank you Jesus!! Mine was not on the list. Wheww

  16. Patsy

The majority of the great old “brick mortar” stores are closing/closed…i’m from the Washington DC area, and I still miss Woodward and Lothrops, Hechts now Macy’s, Garfunkels…You can’t find that good quality merchandise anymore…and if you do you’re gonna pay royally.

    • mel

So true! I’m in the south, and grew up shopping at places like DH Holmes, Maison Blanche, Zayre’s, Mervyn’s, Service Merchandise, Woolworth’s… And we always got our school shoes from Thom McCann!!

    • Mei

I still have a silk dress that i bought at Woodward and Lothrops way back in the day. It is such a classic sheath style that it stays in fashion as the LBD with a jacket or nothing. LOVE IT and miss shopping Woodies!!

  17. Susan Crawford

Our Kmart closed a few years ago. But the Sears in our local mall is one of the ones slated for auction. And they are advertising as hiring. We shall see.

  18. thankful

I was at the Saugus, MA, Kmart this morning. Clothing is 40% and the rest is 30%.

    • Rochelle

Did you even read the article you posted? The irony of someone knocking “Merica” while posting an article about Sears Canada, which is wholly separate from the Sears here in the US in everything but name only since 2012… Guess greed is a worldwide phenomenon, huh?

  19. Mercedes

Wow! This is crazy how all the Sears/Kmarts are closing in my area(Boston). The good Kmarts are all gone. Now what’s left are the small crappy ones that don’t have as much of a selection. Who is to blame for this??? Amazon??? LoL. This sucks.

  20. Ruddy

Two Sears near me are being sold. Does this mean that they’re going to stay open while leasing or closing after the sale?

  21. sabrina

We just lost both our kmarts in Jacksonville NC. Hoping our one sears stays.

  22. misti

I had 42.00 in points I went and used up today. My Kmart wasn’t on the list but I feel as if anytime it could be so didn’t want to loose the money just in case.
