Our dealership in Racine, WI gave us the hardest time with this the last time. I’ve done this offer with other dealerships in the past and it’s been fine. I hope others have a better experience!
Thank you. I don’t like to be hassled.
These types of deals infuriate me. Having been a car salesperson myself and my husband currently a sales manager at a local dealership, please don’t go take a salesperson’s time from actual potential buyers for this. Most work strictly on commission and have families to support.
You never know who could end up being a potential buyer.
I don’t understand the issue…they offer it for a reason. Whether or not someone is going to buy at that moment or not, if they are kind and considerate and make it a pleasant experience, the customer will more than likely return. We did one just like this 2 years ago at our local Toyota dealership because, honestly, times were tough and they were giving $50 gift card to Target in November. We jumped on this deal with no intention of buying a car anytime in the near future. Our experience was incredible the salesperson was awesome and was 100% honest and not pushy. We walked away happy with our gift card. Fast forward 7 months our car broke down and we were suddenly looking for a new one. You know the first place we thought of?! Yep, the Toyota dealership bc the guy was awesome and we loved the experience. We now have a new(ish) car that we would have never thought about if it wasn’t for this initial deal.
Stephanie, I wholeheartedly agree with you. My spouse and I take forever to research, test drive, research some more, and we oftentimes go to different dealerships in the course of our research. Took us over a year to get our last vehicle. Of the dealerships we went to one was awful, gave us brochures and said to contact him if we wanted to purchase a vehicle. Another dealership, the sales person took his time with us and answered our many questions. Guess who we went back to? The sales person who took his time with us and answered our many questions. We’ve never made a rash decision when it pertains to plunking down that much cash. It really is about building a relationship. Our next vehicle, I would not hesitate to go back to the sales person who assisted us last time.
I usually just call or go in and say I have this… I’m not interested in buying at this time but would like the gift card could you help me? I don’t want to waste your time with test driving if I’m not looking to purchase at this time. They usually just give me the info.
I went to the dealership the last time it was posted on hip2save and also received my Visa gift card. If you are up front with the salesperson, and tell them you are not in the market for a new vehicle, it goes rather smoothly.
My opinion so dont get angry ppl. But i also find this to be a gigantic waste of time for the salespeople. Of course the car companies and or dealerships would promote this as a way to possibly get a potential buyer but come on!! What a waste of the salepeoples time. Come on guys, u will even waste ur own time for a potential hassle (from what others have said now and previously) over a measly $40. Leave the salespeople alone to actually try and make money. Bet they hate this flim flam promo
And to call up and say u dont want to buy a car but want the gift card !!!!! OMG….
Last time I did one the guy couldn’t have been nicer. He told us we should check all the brands for offers like this. Says he has his friends do them too. Was no big deal to sign the thing. They very rarely make you drive a car. Easy money.
I can understand both sides, but for a salesperson to be annoyed with someone taking advantage of an offer their company puts out there is wrong. don’t put the offer out there if you don’t want folks to use it and seriously $40 is not going to get me to buy a car but would get me in the dealership which could lead to a future sale. For some (I am blessed not to be one of those folks) $40 is not measly it’s a Christmas or birthday for their child 🙂 god bless and keep the deals coming !
I received a $50 Amazon gift card here in Jersey for test driving a car. I am actually interested in purchasing one, but Hyundai was not the right fit for me at this time plus the salesman was a jerk. Anyway, made easy $50.
A couple months ago I did this offer. I took the sheet already filled out. I walked up to the sales guy and said “I already bought a new Hyundai a few months ago, so I’m not going to test drive again, but I want to turn this in”, then I followed the person with the form until I saw where they turned it in at. I got my Amazon gift card via email about 4 wks later.
Thanks for this.I found the POP Up
Do the gift cards get mailed out? I just test drive and they said they would mail me a gift card?
Nice!!
Me and my husband went last year and test drove a vehicle and they gave us a $40 target gift card.
Looks like the offer is not available in northeastern Illinois. Thanks anyway!!
