Dear, Target. You ALMOST Had Me at 40% Off…

At first glance, 40% off these toys seems like a great deal, right? Not necessarily!

We woke up this morning and were super excited to find that Target released 2 new Cartwheel Offers valid for 40% off Cutie Stix Cut & Create Station and 40% off Orbeez Magic Chef Set.

At almost half off, one would assume these offers would make for awesome deals; however, after some research by our team, we found the deals are not nearly as exciting as they seem.

Check out our finds:

Cutie Stix Cut & Create Station $23.99 (regularly $29.99)
Use the 40% off Cutie Stix Cut & Create Station Cartwheel Offer
Final Cost $14.39!*
* This same item sells for $16.19 at Target.com AND Amazon so not a huge savings!

Orbeez Magic Chef Set $23.99 (regularly $29.99)
Use the 40% off Orbeez Magic Chef Set Cartwheel Offer
Final Cost $14.39!*
* This same item sells for $17.89 at Amazon and Walmart.com so not a huge savings!

If you are not seeing these sets on sale at Target as noted above, be sure to price check!

      very sneaky!

  2. Misty

Yes, it is always a good reminder to research it first!

  3. Michelle

My Walmart in Delaware had the magic chef on clearance for $9.99.

  4. amanda

Oh no! Is Target taking pricing tips from Kohl’s and JoAnn? I hope this doesn’t become a thing with Target.

  5. sherry

Is Target offering free 2-day shipping?

  6. AshleyO

Thanks for the heads up! 😘

      You’re welcome!

I hate when they do this….also they put items on their clearance rack marked down like 50 cents! I don’t consider that a clearance price!

    • fla33023

So true. I don’t consider marked down items equal to clearance.

    • ResseCup

That reminds me of Fashion Bug and their silly clearance. Regular price $34.99, clearance price $34.98 HA!!!

      • houseofgirls

        Lol

      • Tara

@reesecup.. I’ve seen items at Walmart “on clearance” that are regular price! Lol.. I think it’s some sort of psychological experiment lmao (now they don’t have the clearance stickers here like they used to- it used to say “was $x, now $y”, but now they just put yellow stickers on them and put them in the clearance section; but before about 40% of the time the items in clearance were in fact full price lol)

Yes, you always have to check online anymore. Both Target and Walmart are frequently lower online than in-store. All of the stores have repricers that are following competitor’s prices so they change momentarily online, as opposed to in store. 3P sellers on Amazon also have this software (I’ve used it). You can literally watch Target and Walmart reprice online when Amazon lowers a price. Best to buy online and pick up in store. Lock in that low price.

    • Cas

I scan everything I put in my cart, the price is always lower online. I price match at the cash register.

The Orbeez Magic Chef kit is on sale at Target for $23.99. After cartwheel it is $14.39.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks for letting us know! That deal has been updated!

  10. Lenardh

That’s Kohl’s for you right there.

  11. ella

The “not-a-deal” posts are just as helpful as the deal posts! They both save us money. That being said, my Target will price match their online prices, so although you may or may not be able to use cartwheel with a price match, at least you can get the lower online price.

  12. Ellie

I remember a couple of years ago I was able to price match and then apply cartwheel. They don’t do that anymore?

    • mizsweetie3

      No

    • Rebecca

Buy more than just the item you’re price matching, and use cartwheel. They won’t know what item it’s coming off.

  13. LittleRunnerGirlTX

Sometimes the Target.com price is lower to make it competitive or similar to the in store price after using the cartwheel discount. Since you can’t use the cartwheel online, it allows you to get a similar price without having to go in store.
This is helpful for those who can’t dash in to Target within the time frame of the cartwheel or who live farther away and don’t want to make a trip for 1-2 items.

  14. Natalie

Target will match there online price in store and give u the cartwheel on top of that usually

There have been times I’ve found things cheaper online at Walmart & Target than in the store, & then the reverse. I’ve also seen the same thing on Amazon, with them using a higher regular price to make it seem like you’re saving a lot. But then I check somewhere else & Amazon’s reduced prices is the regular price somewhere else. All the stores do it in some way. I will say at Target the 1 time, I was buying a clearance Lego set & the cashier checked his phone to see if it
was cheaper on Target.com. It was & he changed the price so I saved another $10. It’s almost like you have to price check everything at multiple places before you buy things in store & online.

    • Sue

As an added note, the employees at my Target are always so helpful whereas when I go to Walmart, I have problems just using coupons. I’ve been told at the self-checkout if a coupon doesn’t scan, they can’t enter it. & I always have problems with free coupons at the regular checkouts. It’s why I save a lot of my coupons for Target or Wegmans, where they actually try to help me out.

  16. cpnkay

No one is worse at this than Carters. It drives me insane!! BOG2F – wow that sounds like the best sale ever right? Wrong. Prices are triple what they were the day before.

    • houseofgirls

      Thats so awful

  17. Charity

You really do have to watch Target pricing now. I was very upset last week with the Pepsi deal. The ad & the shelf advertised the price as 3/10 for 12 packs. There was also a 5/20 Pepsi Target coupon in the ad. I purchased (6) 12 packs for a total of $20. My subtotal after the coupon should have been $15. They were ringing up as buy 2, get 1 free instead of 3/10. When I used the $5 coupon, it was taking a portion off of the regular price, not the sale price. If I had purchased other items, I might not have noticed this. It was only a little over $1 difference, but I thought this was false advertising.

    • Leigh

Target seems to have issues getting their soda sales entered into their systems correctly. Idk how many times I have had to make a special trip back to Target just to have them fix an error. 😝

  18. Debbie

Target is sneaky. I’ve been told lies by their manager that they “no longer accept printed coupons” and other such trash. Now they are messing with prices to make it look like a better deal. i don’t have time for this. Bye Target

  19. e

I saw the chef set at WM for $11 yesterday on clearance.

  20. Mel

I thought Target would price match the Target.com price? And will they will honor a coupon on a price match?

  21. Mike

Target has matched target.com prices fore in the past.

  22. Kathi

Did I miss the rest of this post? I only see up to the part where it says “…after some research by our team, we found the deals are not nearly as exciting as they seem.” Then there’s no further explanation/commentary on what is meant by that and the osted final prices seem in line with the 40% off deal. So… what am I missing??

    • Kathi

Never mind… I see now the items already sell for close to the after prices elsewhere.

  23. Cassandane

Sneaky sneaky. Target also removed certain brand car seats from their website during the recent Car Seat Trade in event. I need a Britax Pioneer seat and it was conveniently offline until the sale ended May 19. Not sold in stores, and now back full price. BRU is goob and Buy Buy Baby excludes Britax on all coupons. Grrrr.
