Has anyone used these? Does alexa have to be in the same room to work?

While I haven’t used this one particularly, it doesn’t have to been in the same room per day but it all depends on having a good signal between he Alexa and the switch.

      No.

I just moved away from the Wemo family of products (moved to smartthings and zwave switches) however, I used them for about 5 years and generally loved them. Wemo and Alexa are connected by Wifi, so you do need to make sure that your WIFI is strong enough to reach the switches. The main reason I switched to smartthings is that I’ve started to add more HA products in my house, and I wanted to minimize the # of apps and separate systems to control them. All of my Zwave products are now controlled by the ST hub and it works really well. But overall the Wemo is a good system and they are very easy to install as well. The units are a little big, so if you have a lot of wires in the box, you may run into some issues getting it all pushed into the box.

Wemo works with SmartThings very well.

I agree with Amber, I have 5 switches connected to Alexa and Google Home. As long as you have a strong enough wifi connection, there shouldn’t’ be an issue with latency or drop signals. I use them primarily to control my fans and lights. I’m a 55 year old housewife with limited technical background but was able to install them myself DIY style. Just You Tube wemo switch….hope this helps

Remember these will only work on single pole switches. (only one switch controls the light)
