best undereye concealers

Bags belong at the department store, NOT under your eyes.

Your best defense against dark circles (outside of sunglasses) is undereye concealers, especially as we try to cover those dark, bluish-purple signs of fatigue, aging, or simply genetics.

Since many of us women (and men!) experience the fight against dark undereye circles, we rounded up some of the Hip2Save team’s favorite concealers along with input from the Hip2Save community to list a few of the best options out there.

1. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye

It covers the deepest dark circles while improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles at the same time! No wonder why this concealer has such great results—it was developed alongside plastic surgeons!

“The small tubes which are only .11oz at $10 seem spendy, but a little goes a long way with it! I probably never would have bought it because of the size and price, but I got one in my Ipsy bag and discovered how long the tube lasts!” – Nicole

“I have very deep, very black/purple under eyes that get very oily. I use a primer and [Bye Bye Undereye] in my makeup regime.” – Christine

I use both, Estée Lauder first and then YSL on top. I have dark circles and this combo covers and brightens them up perfectly.” – Elaine

Available at Target | $4.99-$5.99

This concealer is my absolute favorite, so much so that I wear it every day! It has a pretty light consistency so it blends like a dream to provide medium coverage, though it is buildable should you need more. It also has a decent shade range along with color-correcting options like lavender for sallow skin, green to neutralize redness, and yellow for purple/blue undereye circles.

Great list! I have the NYX and shapetape and I actually prefer NYX. My daughter is an MUA and she highly recommends numbers 1-8 if it fits your budget but numbers 9 & 10 are good non-budget busters. 🙂 I just happen to be a saver so if I can get a quality brand for less, I’m going with that! I haven’t had much success with maybelline though as my skin is dry and it dries me out even more. Just my two cents… 🙂

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

So glad that the cheaper option works well for you, NikkiD! I love the NYX concealer as well

  2. Natalie

I love the BYE BYE undereye. I combine the deep and warm deep complexions to wear as full coverage.

  3. Lilmama1299

    Tarte shapetape! Best ever!

  4. orie4reel

I tried the ‘IT’ under eye & it ROCKS!! It’s the best I have Ever seen & used, a VERY LITTLE goes a Very Looong way & lasts!!!! I bought the pressed powder from QVC & got a bunch of different samples included with it ( & that was one of them) I’m super happy it was.

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I love how concentrated the IT Cosmetics concealer is, and that it’s so worth the money since you don’t need to use a lot. The IT Cosmetics CC cream is the same way!

  5. Saf

You should add colourpop no filter concealer. Its only second Nars radiant creamy and a whole lot cheaper at only 6.00

    • beatrice

OMG i was just gonna say that i love colourpop and they are super inexpensive so you can get tons of colors and mix them up or just have for all year as you go from tan to fair which is what i do

  6. Stephanie

Totally going to try the NYX brand, not even because its cheap but because I have found their eyeliner to be the best, even better than the expensive brands so I’m hopeful that I’ll love their concealer, too!

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I use the NYX liquid eyeliner and love it! I hope the concealer works out for you 😀

  7. Jen

For those with dry skin, Tarte creaselsss concealer is the full coverage counterpart to shape tape but for dry skin! and the drug store dupe for it is the NYX gotcha covered concealer! no joke they perform exactly the same so it’s a matter of price and shade match.

    • VMTX

Thanks Jen. I’m going to try NYX Gotcha Covered. Just what my dry skin needs! Fingers crossed.

  8. JMcRayde

How natural and organic are these products? I usually use 100% Pure, but looking for something with a flawless look w/ added SPF that’s more organic in ingredients. Any recommendations? I’ve heard Tarte and Bite makeup is the closest from Sephora.

  9. 50ShadesofLipstick

Tarte’s Shape Tape is really overrated…it’s totally matte and drying which makes it look really unnatural. NARS Radiant Creamy all the way! It is the absolute best- full coverage, natural finish, and moisturizing. Also they have a ton of shades…IT Cosmetics only has 6 lol

    • LC

I agree… I’ve tried most on the list and nothing covered up my undereye circles 🙁

      • ana

You should try the makeup revolution conceal and define, it’s similar to tarte but it’s more creamy and gives a less matte finish. Also put a little bit LA girl yellow, peach or orange under your eyes before foundation and concealer it’ll help correct the darkness

      • Light

Try Mac Pro long concealer. It’s the BEST

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

You make a good point, the shade range is pretty limited for IT Cosmetics. It’s great how many shades and varying undertones NARS has!

  10. Olgraygirl

IT Bye-Bye Undereye is the best ever!! I buy it in the travel size because such a tiny amount is necessary for great results!

  11. blondemama

I second the Bye Bye Undereye and I’m not surprised it’s first on your list. That stuff is amazzzzing. Sometimes I mix it with moisturizer and use it as my and foundation.

  12. alexis

I have used all of these and so far tarte is my fav although mine are really bad so i use Becca concealer with it as well as tarte. Surprised becca isn’t on there

  13. ana

I’m an MUA and tarte shape is a must have, full coverage and lasts all day! Best concealer along with urban decay all nighter, nyx hd, maybelline instant age rewind, the new makeup revolution conceal and define (which reminds a lot of shape tape and only $7 at ulta!), L.A. girl pro hd and nars creamy radiant!

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi Ana! I’ll have to check out the Makeup Revolution and L.A. Girl concealers — thanks for the tip!

  14. Mrs.W

    Thanks for the recommendations!

  15. Amymae1100

I want to try the NYX from Target.com. I usually go with a light shade but a medium in the IT brand cosmetics. When in doubt go lighter with concealer???? Also I have the IT Bye Bye Under Eye (medium) I got from the IT Girl box deal at Macys, btw thanks for that awesome deal ladies love the brow pencil, and I like it a lot but a little goes a long way. It is very thick stuff. I’m going to try to mix it with lotion, as someone suggested, I think that will help a lot. I also have the Maybelline Age Eraser and is definitely worth keeping in the “opps I forgot to put on X makeup” bag in your purse. It’s super light and goes on smooth but still covers pretty good and doesn’t look obvious/cakey like so many concealers do on my face.

  16. Helen in Meridian

love IT Bye Bye undereye and had been using it for 2 yrs all over my face. They now have a great all over called IT Full Coverage SPF 50 Cream. iIt is $38 regular price for 1.08 OZ. During June on QVC.com they have a supersize 2.53 oz. almost 3 x the size for $61.50 , 5 payments of $12.30. This can be on auto delivery, and is only available twice a year. I have been using my supersize for 6 months daily, and it is still going. Covers all my facial flaws and has lots of other good skin care in it.

    • Cruz

Helen this sounds like a great deal! Is it around the same time every year that they have this special? I seen that you put in June and when is the 2nd time they have this large size? Thanks for this info and I love when Hip2Save does the “makeup articles” and how you put the “better expensive makeups” that I put on my want to try list when I see them on sale and how you put the budget friendly comparisons. This helps me know what to buy and what to try!

  17. rcrawfo1

I wanted to love IT Bye Bye so much because I have genetic dark circles, but I found it cakey and actually settled into the fine lines around my eyes and aged me. For some reason, it just doesn’t sit on my skin well. I have yet to find something that blows me away, so I will have to try some from this list!

    • Paige

I had the same exact experience with the IT! I am currently using Tarte CC under eye corrector. I like it a lot.

    • Beth

Yes I have the same issue! It makes me look so much older. I’m only 33 and it showed fine lines I never knew I had

    • MAITE740

Same thing happened to me and I asked one of the reps in ulta and she advised me to put a little bit of powder over it and it worked no more lines! I used stay matte invisible blotting powder from Clinique.

    • Melissa

With the IT Bye Bye concealer, give it another try. It applies best when it is warmed a little on your hand before applying it. And you really don’t need much at all. If you put it on too thick it is not going to do the job. And then apply a light dusting of the setting powder.

    • Cassie

A lot of beauty gurus use concealer and then set it with powder right away. If you look on youtube you can find tons of tutorials (I like Tati Westbrook aka GlamLifeGuru because she’s pretty family friendly, but you can pick anyone that floats your boat). Plus if you find someone you like on youtube that has similar skin (type, age, color, etc), you may want to try the brands they recommend. A lot of them do product favorites.

      • MichelleR

Tati is my favorite too. I follow her religiously and will pretty much buy whatever she recommends! I use Tarte Tape and Maybelline Age Rewind currently. But her new fave is the Jeffrey Star concealer. I need to try that.

  18. Beca

I LOVE fun posts like this and think it would be awesome to have a whole beauty series that focuses on great products (from $-$$$).

    Thanks!!

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Your wish is my command, Beca! Check out this post where we compare luxury and drugstore makeup products 😊

  19. Katelyn

Love this thread!!! Thank you! I’ve been reading through all of the comments.

  20. Kristi

I use the It Cosmetics bye bye undereye travel size and it lasts atleast three months. $3.33 per month! Such a good deal. It works great! When you order directly from it cosmetics you get free samples and they always have promo codes and often offer free shipping!

  21. Shannon

Yay! I love this post! I’m so lazy when it comes to makeup but I always wear concealer and mascara no matter what!

  22. ImSoVein

Since #3 Makeup Forever is listed as waterproof, I wonder how well it would help cover spider veins on legs. Any thoughts? I’ve tried a few different products designed for that purpose and they’ve been pretty meh.

  23. Liliana

I have used a lot of these in my search for my holy Grail of concealer.  Hated the Maybelline and Nyx. I have combination skin that is very sensitive.  I’m nearing 40, I do 12 hour work shifts and most often I get no more than 4 to 5 hours sleep.  I have bags and discoloration.  I have not used the IT cosmetic one and I’ll def need to try it.  Tarter shape tape is a favorite, but I don’t like the price.  I look for bloggers who give you dupes of the greats and many suggested Makeup Revolution concealer as a dupe for Tarte shape tape for a fraction of the price.  I bought it as well as their highly praised foundation and loved it.  However, the foundation is a bit heavy for me.  I love my Everyday Minerals makeup…but sometimes my skin gets too dry up here in the north in the winter.  Would love to see a foundation post too.

  24. desireegattis

I have the NARS and it’s great. I’ve heard that some folks don’t like the tarte shape tape for contouring/as a base for the eyes. I LOVE the tarte translucent finishing powder bc it helps manage my oily skin so I may have to try it!

  25. Rose

I wonder if the reason some of you guys are having problems with concealer, is that you’re maybe applying it wrong??? I see in the pic above that she’s really coating it on thickly. But you don’t need that much!!! First thing is you need to make sure your EYE area is moisturized, and you must use a product that is specific for that area. Facial moisturizers can be to strong and can creep into the area and cause irritation. An eye specific product won’t do that. I like Olay Eyes. Apply your foundation. THEN apply concealer. At this point, the foundation will cover the area and you won’t need to apply a thick coat of concealer. If you’re using a liquid, DOT the area under your eyes. If using a stick, apply it lightly. I like to use the mini beauty blender, or and use a concealer brush to blend in or use your pinky finger to pat in (your index tends to tug the skin). Then apply a setting powder.

    • 50ShadesofLipstick

She’s not coating it on thickly at all though, and how much you need depends on how much you like to conceal obviously. Yes, you need to moisturize and apply foundation first. But you’re not supposed to just dot concealer on the area under your eyes in a semi-circle…like the picture shows, you’re supposed to draw an upside down triangle underneath the eye because that covers the entire area, concealing darkness and brightening the area at the same time. And you should bake it in place of just using a setting powder, if you have problems with it creasing or settling into lines etc.

    • Lilmama1299

Agree! If I don’t moisturize, the shape tape doesn’t look right. But if I do, it is by far the best I’ve used in terms of coverage and staying power.

    • Lilmama1299

And. A little goes a long way, so even tho it is pricey it lasts longer than others I’ve used.

    • Lilmama1299

Sorry for the serial posting. It also does best when I use a small beauty blender. Lol I’m done now 🤷🏻‍♀️

  26. TracyS

I love this post! Every morning I get really bad puffy eyes and have dark circles and the NYX High Definition Concealer is the only concealer that has ever worked for me. I tried tons of concealers both drug store and high end and this is the very best concealer in my opinion. I buy this concealer at Ulta and always by the beige color (I think it’s either number 3 or 4).

  27. Janell

Funny! I bought the NYX concealer at Macy’s for $5 to get free shipping but haven’t tried it yet.

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Let me know how it works out for you Janell! It’s my favorite!

  28. Gisette

I use the Estée Lauder double wear and shape tape. Keep these type of posts coming ladies! I love reading honest feedback on makeup.

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Glad you enjoyed it Gisette! I’ll pass your feedback on to the team

  29. VMTX

Great posts. Please do one on eyebrow products for dry skin with disappearing eyebrows! Thx H2S!

  30. Amy

I have the Tarte Shape tape, but find it to be too much coverage I guess. I really like the Maybelline Fit me. They finally brought out the right shade for me and I’m really liking it!

  31. Jackie

So far my absolute favorite is Wet ‘n Wild; I was shocked but it works just as well as Shape Tape. It’s done wonders for my dark circles. Go to YouTube and search comparisons of Wet ‘n Wild to Shape Tape and you’ll be impressed. A lot of bloggers will do a side by side comparison with each brand on one side to really show how they cover. I tried NYX and it didn’t work at all for me.

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That’s awesome, Jackie! Thank you for the recommendation 😄, I’ll have to look into the Wet n’ Wild concealer!

  32. Bunny

    Hi Emily,

Love these posts you’ve been doing lately. Thanks so much for all your great recommendations. And I agree with VMTX…would love to see an upcoming post just about eyebrows. Mine are virtually non-existent. Would also like to find out from readers who have had eyebrow tattoos and how well they have worked.

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

So glad to hear that Bunny! I’ll pass the suggestion for an eyebrow products post along to the team! Thank you for reading and for your sweet comments 😊

    • Katie

I’d also love to see something about eyebrows! NATURAL looking ones 🙂

  33. mumm

Love these, please keep them coming. I would love one on spray foundation.

  34. Mary White

    I love the Estee Lauder.

  35. Lularoeshellygardner

I don’t know if any of you have heard of maskcara beauty makeup- I am actually an artist but was never a makeup person before because I felt it was so unnatural. Their makeup is a cream makes makeup and I seriously love it! I use it in combination with other products I Try and love but maskcara is my go to.

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I haven’t heard of that but it definitely sounds interesting! I’ll have to look it up 🙂thanks for the tip!

    • Kara

Just heard of Maskara! Where can you find the best deals on it? Thanks!

  36. BellaGW

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser is my all time favorite. The price is icing on the cake!

  37. Nicole Z.

The YSL Touché Eclat is magical! Moisturizes and brightens! Well worth it for the over 40 set like me.

  38. Kaln

I love IT concealer! It only takes a very, very little amount and rub between your ring fingers and dab under the eye. It is very thick but you must warm it up between your fingertips. It’s awesome. Great coverage.

  39. Olivia

Thank you so much! My 13 year old was convinced that Shape Tape was the undereye concealer she wanted to spend her hard-earned babysitting money on, but I just convinced her to try the WAY less expensive NYX kind. Fingers crossed that she loves it!

  40. charlie4me

I rarely read through all comments but glad I did. I do cosmetic rreset so, I’ve tried everything when it comes to concealers from the very most expensive one was $100!!Ladies let me tell you if you are getting in your early 40s and hardly get any sleep, then you must try out the new makeup Kokie! It came in my Ipsy bag and I was reluctant because it is a cheaper brand but it is a must-try. The only one that I found so far that works. I’ve tried probably close to 25+ concealers😣

  41. Phyllis A Keene

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m learning to coupon. I feel like a stalker as I follow your every move. I’m really saving a small fortune. I started 2 months ago & I’ve already saved just under $500 at CVS. Thank you for guidance & I wish I would’ve started sooner. Thank you for the make up top 10 list also. You ARE APPRECIATED. I am now teaching friends to coupon but I send them straight to you. God bless you 🙏

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You are SO very welcome! Thanks a bunch for the super sweet comment, Phyllis! We sure appreciate YOU! 🥰
