Would love to hear comments from anyone who uses these! The previous post and comments were very helpful! TIA!!

I don’t know about the phone, but I use Total Wireless and have for about 2 years. Great service. I don’t use much data, so I pay $25/month for unlimited talk and text and then add on 5 GB of data that rolls over each month until you use it all for $10.

  2. Yelena

Would anybody know if I can also use the phone at Verizon? Thanks, Yelena

Man this is so tempting to buy and just use as an iPod for my kid (on wifi only) My old phone he used to use quit working and this is a crazy good deal for a refurbished iPhone….

    • Mika

I had no idea you could do this until I saw your comment. I’ve actually been thinking about buying an ipod touch but couldn’t bring myself to pay $185-200+ for it. It’s way cheaper to just buy this and use it as an ipod. Thanks!

    • Jess

Yes you can definitely use it like an iPod 🙂 I got the iPhone SE from Walmart for $99 during their Black Friday Deal. I didn’t put in the SIM card, and it works just like an iPod! It’s way nicer than the IPod touch too.

      • Mika

        Thanks for the feedback, Jess!

Does anyone know if these can be unlocked? We need new phones but take them overseas.

    • sandi

You have to have your phone service thru total wireless for 1 year before you can request it to be unlocked.

      • Emily

        Thanks!

I have the Total Wireless plan and love it. Service is great in my area, no contract.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

SWEET! Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Good to know!

Can I put a AT&T SIM card into this phone?

    • hip2trade

Compatible with Total Wireless Phones and Total Wireless Mobile Hotspot. And Those listed with Straight talk are the ones compatible with straight talk and phones. I believe they are locked to these services. Pe

Would anyone be kind enough to explain the prepaid phone thing to me? I have a 10 year old son that is starting to be more independent (walks through our neighborhood alone, going to friend’s houses, etc.). Right now I give him my phone but that only works if my husband is around and my son can call my husband. I’d like him to be able to call me if/when he needs to and I like being able to call him (he isn’t the best with keeping track of time) but I don’t want him to have a full on phone yet. I definitely want to avoid social media with all of the online bullying, etc. and full access to the internet. Is there a way for him to be able to make/receive calls and play some approved games but not have access to everything and also be certain he doesn’t run up any kind of large bill/use up a bunch of $ in data? Thanks.

    • hip2trade

An iPhone with text and call plan sounds like what you need. ($25 unlimited Total Wireless) If the games require data, add on data would be good. It’s $10 for 5 gb. It would limit internet usage.but allow some data for games.

      • Suzanne H

        Thanks!

    • hip2trade

You can buy the prepaid cards from Walmart, Target, or Total Wireless. They have instructions on prepaid cards and how to use them. Make sure to buy a compatible iPhone. If you prefer Straight Talk they have cards and phones for that service as well.

To keep track of your son you can also use the “find my friends ” app. You can set up alerts when they leave from / arrive at a certain location.
Apple also provides free sessions in all Apple stores to teach you how to use the devices. The Parental visibility session can give you a good handle on what your kids are doing on their devices and limit their use. But they have also sessions for video / photo / music / iCloud / programing for kids. All free – check under Today @Apple.

      • Suzanne H

        Love all of this! Thanks.

If you have Verizon, look into the Gizmo Gadget watch. We got it for our 7 year old and it does everything that you’re looking for above. No internet access, full parental control when it comes to talk and text, and such a reduced risk of losing it because it’s a smart watch, rather than a phone.

  10. Jlk

I’m trying to figure out why we couldn’t before I do it too haha. No contract and prepay data seems like it would work!

  11. ddallavalle

You have to have the Straight Talk phones connected to their service for a year before they can be unlocked. I bought for my kids as toys and wanted to unlock them now, but can’t.

    • Jlk

But are they still able to use on wifi?

      • nik

I am wondering if the wifi only would work too?

  12. ddallavalle

Xfinity mobile is the best service for kids to just have a phone that calls and texts. The phone was free when I signed up and the service is $2.50 a month. These are just the taxes and fees like 911. You have to be a Comcast internet customer.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh cool! Thanks for sharing what has worked for your family! Great tip!

  13. Joy

I have this phone and Total Wireless service. I love both!

  14. Bunny

I so much want to get this deal. But I do not see anything about the phone’s warranty. Can anyone please help?

  15. Bunny

Ok I did this deal. My phone works great but have been unable to get my husband on my plan. Customer service is horrible. We’ve spoken to eight people in 48 hours and our problem is still not resolved.

  16. Tico

is this expired? I ordered one but got cancelation email

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi there! It looks like a few of these are gone. Updating now!
