I would suggest Googling the price of everything before purchasing. The good majority of the stuff is still cheaper elsewhere. I did find a Ms. Potato Head for a few dollars cheaper and saved $4 on a Barbie, but that was it. Almost everything else was cheaper on Amazon, Target or Walmart. I’m so surprised by people rushing out with carts full of stuff!

    • al3xandra1987

Agreed! I went yesterday and found the American girl horse stable for 111, I made sure to check the American girl website and it was half off. So it was a good deal but I didn’t find much else.

    • Joni

Agreed. I looked up tons of games and it may have been $1 savings off of Walmart and amazon. A few were a good deal but it is wise to check and not get caught up in it.

    • Weber14

I downloaded a great app that scans the barcode and gives me local and online prices for the item, It’s called ShopSavvy.
I was also super surprised, the couponer in me is like you can get that WAY cheaper on amazon lol

  2. Jessica

This would be a good time to stock up on some kids gifts for the Secret Santa/Operation Santa Sack that lots of workplaces have in the winter. I know my job does.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That is an awesome idea Jessica! Thanks for the suggestion!

The amount of money we spend on toys is ridiculous. How many of those toys get played with for 15 minutes and then just sit in the corners collecting dust till we get so sick of the clutter and donate it? Yet, we still buy them.

    • MrsG

PREACH! We try to DO more things together- zoo, family trips, go out to eat, etc.

  4. Sara

We went this past weekend and bought a new 20″ mountain bike for my daughter for less than $80 assembled, which is a good deal. There were mostly only 16″ bikes left, but there were 3 bigger ones including the one we bought and a bigger beach cruiser!

We didn’t get anything else though. The kids brought their own money and decided they would rather go to Target to get things they really want.

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That’s a great deal on the bike!

  5. Sarah

Agreed.^ My spouse and I live a minimalist lifestyle and this includes our two year old. The toys, clothing, books, and necessities he owns are all good quality items but there aren’t many of them. My toddler is just as happy playing with an empty plastic container and lid, as he is playing with a $50 toy.

    • Weber14

Lol my 16 month old would rather play with the box the toy came in!

  6. JenB

I went Friday. I don’t think mine had Avengers toys or the Mickey pool float. 🙁

  7. Kat

They r making us fool by tagging 50%or70% off
Bcoz 1 month back we bought a drone in 40% off
    It was 30$
But today it was 60% off but price was same 30$
    Bcoz they increased original price
    Hehe….

    • Danielle

I laughed because there were carters 2pk baby socks marked as $14.00 reg price. Also, most of the prices in my store were the same as they were 3 weeks ago.

  8. Meg

Paw patrol was definitely a good deal at our TRU as well as cars and other things my kids like. We actually did our Christmas shopping this way and put away a lot of items my kids love.

    • Michelle

Yeah my friend went and got a bunch of paw patrol for Christmas… we stocked up on Hatchimal Colleggtibles for 50% off making the 5 packs $4.99 for season 2… I also got some items for the “birthday bags” I make for the food bank but it took hours of checking prices to get the best deals… I think that will be my last trip there… very sad cause we shopped there all she time…

  9. Ashley

Picked up a PBS plug and play for $18. Got a Teddy Ruxpen for $30, easy Christmas gifts!

  10. Danielle

Watch the register like a hawk when you’re checking out. I had something marked $2.49 that I ended up actually paying $5.49 for :/

I think it all depends what you buy too. I bought tons of board games 50% off and when I googled them they were indeed 50% off, some even more off than that. I got a Radio Flyer scooter for a true 60% off. I got 3 bike helmets for 50% off one of them I got for 70% off compared to other stores. I got wellie wisher by american girl accessories, books, and doll for 40% off, journey girls doll, clothes, and scooter 50% off, art kits for 60%, bikes for 40% and so much more. We have the sling powerwheel for 70% off at our location. It is normally 399 and it is on sale for 119.

  12. Ahat

The store near me is closing for good on the 27th. We’ve been going every week to buy stuff. We’ve gotten some really good deals.

  13. MStotty

There are good deals if you really look but definitely google prices. I went Sunday and got a Batman Lego set and paid $42. Though it seemed like a good deal until I went home & googled the set I bought-Walmart & Target we’re $10 cheaper. Then I took the kids today to let them spend their birthday money and the LEGO set I bought 2 days earlier was marked another 10% making it the price Walmart & Target already had it at. The toy selection at Toys R Us was always good (compared to Target & Walmart) with not having to shop online, but their ridiculous price mark ups is what sank their ship, sadly.

I was going to say by the time this final must go sales go, the company is already gone.. it’s then taken over by a company that does the final sales but usually the mark ups are ridiculous so people think they are getting good deals but rarely do. I did just see a dang gift card in my wallet the other day though, so I’ll check to see if it has a balance left on it, thanks for reminding me!

    • Tara

Dawn- they stopped accepting gift cards a couple of months ago; but there were some stores like bed bath and beyond buying them up for some reason… Not sure if you could use it in one of their saved Canadian stores (since those were saved)

    • Aleshia Jones

I am a pretty smart shopper and goggle and search everything. Most everything on my location is true to the signs. Some are even better than what other stores have the item listed. For example, I purchase a bike helmet for 50% off according to toysrus. The same helmet is 50$ everywhere else. I paid 15$. That is a way bigger savings than 50%. I also got tons of boards games for 50% off but most were actually 60% off according to other sites. They had a new 2ds XL normally 150 for 80$. I did break down and buy certain things at 30-40% and I never do that. I held out as long as i could but certain items went fast and within days everything on my shopping list had dwindled down a lot, so I broke down and took what savings I could get. I am satisfied because I still made a pretty good deal compared to other stores and websites.

  15. Jodi

I was able to find some great deals for kids presents for birthdays, Christmas, and Hanukkah for my daughter. Barbie sets; mc2 items; fur pets; nerf; board games; karaoke machine and a JoJo bow maker. I was able to find 40-50% last week.

  16. ts

We went last week, our store was 60% off. My son got some things to celebrate him passing his 3rd grade fsa test. We saved almost $40! 🙂

  17. Trish

Can you please please please change the app so that when you click on a deal it stays on that page instead of scroll left and right to other deals!?! it’s sooo sensitive I spend double the time having to go click the x to go back into the deal all the time! even when I scroll up and down it still slides the deals ugh.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

DARN! So sorry to hear that feature has been so sensitive. I will be sure to pass that along to the team so that we can check it out! Be sure to send Collin an email if any other issues pop up for you! collin@hip2save.com Thanks SO much!

  18. Melanie

Be careful!!! I purchased something today that we thought just needed new batteries. Took it home and it wasn’t a battery issue. The manager on duty at Toys R Us pretty much told us “ oh well” and to contact the manufacturer.
Luckily the manufacturer is willing to cooperate and send us a new item.

  19. Maga Hari

    90% soon?

    • SK

Will it also become 90% ? i was told it will never reduce below 70%.

  20. Ashley

Drove past my toys r us yesterday and it says 60-80% off and 8 more days. I got an email today saying 70% off and 8 more days (from today). Think I’m going to stop in soon and see what’s left.
