If someone already has a savings pass can you tell me if the 25% can be used for men’s suits. I’m hoping to find my husband some suits on clearance and use this coupon in addition. Thanks!

Hi Joanna! Here is what I find listed in the details of the offer – “25% off select regular & sale apparel for him, her and kids, home and select fine and fashion jewelry.” Hoping that might help!

Joanna: Click on the link above “25% off Savings Pass”. Once you’re on Macy’s website with this offer, click on “Special Offers”. It will expand out with all the details you can ask for. However, I don’t think you can apply any coupon on clearance items.

Re: carryon luggage, was on a recent trip where a large percentage of the passengers on each leg of my trip had forgone checking their baggage for carryon instead, thus forgoing the additional fees. Even families with small children were doing it. So many people had carryon that at the gate on each leg of my trip the airline was requesting that people check their baggage for free because they didn’t have enough room for all the carryon luggage. This was American Airlines. Anyone else experience this? I think the airlines thought they were simply going to make more money by charging their crazy fees for luggage, something that used to be free, but now more people are avoiding checked baggage altogether. In addition, their were certain passengers whose tickets only allowed one under the seat item and no upper compartment item item at all. Never seen that before.

I experience this on every flight! Also some airlines like United are charging even for a carry on (on their cheapest ticket). At that point you might as well pay the $25 to check in

      • Sara

It’s called a basic economy ticket. All three legacy US carriers do it. They say they are trying to compete with ultra-low-cost carriers like Allegiant and Spirit. They don’t want you to book a basic economy ticket. They make it so unpalatable that you will book a regular economy ticket. It is just a poorly disguised price increase. A basic economy ticket costs about what a regular economy ticket used to cost. United and American are competing to see who can be the most cruel when it comes to restrictions. Delta still allows a carry on and a personal item on a basic economy ticket.

I don’t often pay attention to the size of the bags other passengers bring, but avoiding checking bags is very common. If you just carry on your bags, you don’t have to spend time waiting at the carousel for your bag to come around. You don’t have to worry about it getting lost or someone else mistaking it for their bag.
Was this a regional or mainline flight? American Airlines has a free gate check service mainly for regional planes due to the limited bin space. If you gate check on a regional plane, you pick up your bag on the jet bridge. If you gate check on a mainline plane, it is checked through to your final destination. I won’t gate check on a mainline plane for that reason.

I don’t check bags anymore unless I absolutely have to since American Airlines left my bag on the ground at DFW in May 2015. I was in Baton Rouge. I didn’t have any clean clothes. Thankfully I live in Baton Rouge, so I could just stay home until I got my bag back. I filed a missing bag claim, but they never contacted me. I had to call. My bag arrived the next day. When I called, the lady told me when it arrived. My bag got to BTR two hours before I called. I didn’t get there until an hour later. My bag as well as a few other bags were left unattended on the belt for at least three hours.

    The bag is unavailable.

I can’t seem to get both offers to apply. Help!

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi Jill, So sorry you’re having trouble. If you try it on the purple bag it should work for you. Hope that helps!
