jcpenney & kohls are hiring teens for Christmas - Kohls storefront

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

… for earning a paycheck, especially if you’re a teen! Since it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas (yes, we know it’s only July!), retailers JCPenney and Kohl’s are already hiring temporary workers for both back-to-school and holiday seasons.

JCPenney plans to hire 18,000 across the country offering a 25% discount for seasonal hires. Teens as young as 16 are welcome to apply. Available customer service and support positions include cashier, replenishment specialist, SEPHORA inside JCPenney beauty consultant, and more!

Kohl’s is looking for seasonal workers for more than 300 stores. Kohl’s hires teens 17 and up and promises a 15% store discount, which can be stacked with other Kohl’s coupons – and special Associate Shop days for even more savings! Available roles include (but are not limited to) customer service, and fulfilling Kohls.com orders for buy online, pick up in store, and Kohls.com orders that ship from stores direct to customers.

Both retailers say seasonal employees may be able to transition into more permanent positions.

Looking for a temp seasonal role at Target or WalMart, both of which hire 16-year-olds? Stay tuned!

In the meantime, check out the JCPenney’s jobs page and Kohl’s jobs page to apply!

Thank you!! My newly 16 year old was needing some job ideas 😊 my 15 year old, also!

To work at Kohls a person would need to be 17 years old, and to work at JC Penny a person would need to be 16 years old. Most retail stores are 18, though a few are 16. Some fast food places will allow as young as 14 to work.

Home Depot hires at 16. I had thought it was 18 but there was a big banner outside of our store one day.

Just some job thoughts: ) I have a 15yr old and she was able to get a job through the town rec department doing the scoreboards for the games, and also just got a job at the local batting cages in town.

Starbucks is an amazing first job and you can even transfer if you go away to college. Great benefits (beyond the health benefits she probably won’t need to take advantage of) and always opportunities for community volunteering if interested.

I work for kohls and just wanted to let anyone interested know that they give us really good discounts at different times a year. at friends and family days we get 20%+20%+15% off. and 3 times a year around Easter christmas and back to school we get 35% off everything. even electronics and Nike, adidas, cosmetics. and if there is another coupon out you can stack it for non premium merchandise. it really is a nice discount 🙂

I was going to say the same thing. The 35% off usually comes in December about 2-3 weeks before christmas and it usually coincides with the 30% off if you use your Kohls charge. If your teen is working, their discount is available to mom and dad too I think (they say immediate family).

I stated as a seasonal worker and stayed for the discounts. The 15% every day is cool. But the 35% off 3 times a year is just plain awesome.

My son works at Marshall’s Home Goods and he has since he was 17 and still in high school. He started as seasonal and they kept him. The pay is good and they work around him being a college student. They treat their employees well and are one of the few places not working on Thanksgiving.
