Curious if anyone has used this before, and if it holds up good to scrubbing!?! Was just getting ready to paint my cabinets with the wax paint but this seems much cheaper!

We used 1 of these kits for the cabinets in the bathroom and laundry room probably 5 years ago. They still look great. This kit is a process and it takes awhile to get it done because of the drying times.

I have not used this but this post caught my eye as I’d like to redo my cabinets also. I’ve been reading up on General Finishes gel stain (Java Gel if you like the espresso). It looks simple to use and is pretty inexpensive. There are many colors and reviews on amazon. Just thought I’d throw it out there. Good luck!

I did my entire kitchen in this product. The kit comes with a seal so the cabinets have a gloss coat over them and wipe off easily. It’s been approx 5 years and we haven’t had anything chip or fade due to cleaning. Hope that helps

This product is great! We used it about 6yrs ago to to redo the cabinets in our first kitchen. They came out great. Swapped out the hardware and we had a totally updated kitchen after 1 weekend! We sold that home 3yrs later…. but the cabinets still looked wonderful when we moved.

    • Jlynn

We used this about a year ago and so far it still looks great! Turned out perfect. I highly recommend.

I used a similar brand for my counters and it’s worth getting for an updated look that’s cheap!! It’s held up great (only been 6 months) but what a difference with just paint. I just sent this post to my hubby and will be going to Home Depot to pick up the white! Great timing Hip2Save!! Thank you!

I’ve used the Rustoleum countertop product about 3 years ago. It has held up great so far. We only painted our cabinets with standard paint and I would have loved to have used this product, based only on my experience with the countertop product.

  4. SM

We have been wanting to use this. Do you know if the deal is in store also?

  5. Sharon c.

How many kits did it take you to do your entire kitchen? just wondering if I should order 2 kits

  6. Paul

A bit off-topic. But, yesterday, I found the 18 oz Rust-Oleum NeverWet Multi-Surface liquid repelling treatment kits, at Dollar Tree. The box I bought says it’s “Frosted Clear”. Home Depot shows the same size box, for $15. So, a $14 savings. The reviews were, also, uneven. So, a great price, if you already like it, or just want to experiment with it.

      Thanks Paul!

    • jen

I also found these 2 pack cans at my Dollar tree, I plan on trying it on my husband’s work boots.

  7. Angela Visser

Thank you! We’ve been talking about redoing our kitchen cabinets this this summer, so the timing is perfect!

  8. Katy

Yay! I’ve been wanting to get this kit. Glad I waited!

  9. Kimberly

I used the general finishes java gel on my bathroom vanities and kitchen chairs and they’ve held up great! It’s been around 4 yrs and I’m just now starting to see some nicks that need to be touched up. We are a family of 5 so I have not been disappointed. It’s definately a long process tho. Lots of time waiting for the gel to dry between coats. 😐

  10. Patty

Can anyone comment on the size of the product? Does it cover the average size kitchen with one kit? We have 20 cabinet doors and 8 drawer fronts.

  11. Tracey

I too was wondering how far 1 kit may go. I know we all have different size kitchens but how many kits did you all order?

  12. Lindsey K.

Mine are oak and I’d like the white. Many are saying on the reviews that the oak came through the white, to use a primer of some sort…???

    • heather Findley

I did this last summer. yes, you need to use a primer but I can’t exactly remember what kind. I believe it was zinsser 1-2-3. it comes with a DVD to watch but I ended up calling customer service because I didn’t love the DVD. the company has excellent customer service and told me exactly what I needed to do for my cabinets, specifically. we love the outcome!

  13. Scarlet B

For folks who are asking about how much is needed, the item description (for the gray) says it covers up to 100 square feet.

  14. Amanda

Thanks so much!! I just purchased 3 of the kits to be delivered to my home. I am going to be painting my cabinets, coffee station, enclosed pantry, and laundry room cabinets. I can’t wait!!

    • Liza (Hip2Save Sidekick)

You’re so welcome Amanda! It sounds like you have some fun home improvement projects planned!

  15. Lisa

Darn! The white is sold out. Does anyone know if you can get a rain check from Home Depot to buy this at the sale price when it is back in stock? Thanks!

    • Liza (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Bummer! I am seeing that now also. Thanks for the heads up, I’m updating the post!

  16. Ann

Yes…so mad, the white is sold out>>>

  17. Bryant

Yes, I have used this product also. I love it. Just be sure to take your time and prep. Mine has held up for about 6 years now.

  18. 50ShadesofLipstick

My local store did a price adjustment for me since I bought a kit back in May at full price….I had my receipt so they gave me a refund for $40. Try that if you want one that’s sold out online!

    • Ysme

What about if I buy the grey and changing for the white at the store ? That work ?

      • 50ShadesofLipstick

I can’t answer that, sorry…you should reach out to customer service for help!

  19. Christina

Apparently you can’t buy this if you are in CA. I’ve been wanting to buy this for awhile but when I went to checkout they won’t ship to CA. I tried ship to store and they won’t do that either. Ugh!!!!

  20. Lauren

The Espresso is out of stock online and not sold in stores. Would have loved to try this with all the great read reviews I’m reading.

  21. AmandaP119

Note to self: don’t wait til kids are in bed to show husband. White is all sold out. Bummer πŸ˜”

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Bummer! Thanks for the heads up!
