recall on select products at Trader Joe'sAnother recall? 🤢

On July 30th, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued yet another health alert regarding certain beef, pork and poultry salad and wrap products that might be contaminated with Cyclospora cayetanensis, an intestinal parasite that can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss.

The affected products were distributed by Caito Foods LLC, an Indianapolis, IN establishment and were sold by grocery stores including Kroger, Trader Joe’s, and Walgreens. These salad and wrap products were produced between July 15th to 18th, 2018, with either the Best By, Enjoy By, Best if Sold By, or Sell By dates ranging from July 18th through July 23rd, 2018.

The complete list of products, product labels, the UPC code numbers and other identifying information can be found here.

I’m sorry but if the recall was issued on July 30, and the products expired a week before…. People shouldn’t be eating them anyway at that point! Did I miss something?

“Best by”, “sell by”, and “use by” are just labels and not expiration dates…they only inform the consumer about the date by which the food item should be consumed for the highest quality, not b/c it’s a safety issue. Eating the food in question after those dates doesn’t necessarily make anyone sick, unless contamination is the issue like it is here.

Weight loss, you say? *runs to Trader Joe’s to get a wrap*

    • Amanda

Agreed! Though I’m not sure it comes without misery…diarrhea and vomiting is never fun!

      I had the same thought.

It really sucks when my medication comes back with the vomit because I can’t take them again. I found out twice that the combination of a Kirkland applesauce pouch and a banana immediately after is a no for me.

How do I get my money back

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi there! You can return them to the store they were purchased from. Hope that helps!
