Don’t like the idea of having a credit card? Consider signing up for the debit card instead of the credit version to receive the same perks, no annual fee, and no credit check required. The debit card is tied to your existing checking account so you can also withdraw up to $40 cash at checkout in-store.

Can my husband sign up for the debit card and get this offer even though I have one and it’s a joint account?

    • Julie

He should be able to. My husband had on and I signed up a month ago and got it and got the coupon in the mail with the card.

My Target just started giving an extra 5% off clearance items when you use your red card! So you get the normal 5% off for using your red card plus an additional 5% off all clearance items!

      Good to know. Thanks!

Maybe I hold grudges, bit I can’t get over the breech and trust them again.

    • Tia

I suppose you’re not shopping too many places these days! Google a list of all companies that have been hacked/breached. They all don’t make headlines.

      • Ana

I don’t get store credit cards, and especially not a debit card. We just use Amex and I did get the Costco one but that’s it.

    • Kcmiami

Experian, Amazon, Starbucks, tots r us, Walmart…. and pretty much every company you can think of has had a major breech. It’s just part of today’s world. I wouldn’t let it stop me from getting a card, if anything your probably safer since they have improved since the breech.

    Got it! Thanks

      Yay! You’re welcome!

So many exclusions. I don’t want to spend 100+ at target

    • Kels

It’s actually a pretty short list. Ever seen all the exclusions on a Macys coupon? Lol

    • sann

      or jcpenneys?

      • Cheryl

I hear ya….no Elf on the Shelf killed the deal for me. 😉

Any idea if an existing Debit redcard holder can get this promotion by getting a new card connected to a different account? We are in the process of switching banks anyway and I assumed i would just need to update my info… but if I could get this promo I would reapply for a whole new card!

    • Tiggy

Switching a bank/routing number won’t trigger a new card. If you have a spouse without a RedCard, they could apply. Or, you could apply for the credit version of the RedCard.

  7. Sunny

Just signed up but am I suppose to get the coupon in the mail or email?

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi Sunny! Here is what the details list – “The coupon will be mailed to approved cardholders with their REDcard”. Hope that helps!

Holy Moly! The interest rate is almost 25% APR. If you don’t pay that balance off every month you are going to being paying a huge amount of interest. I usually pay my credit card balance in full at the end of the month, but a 5% purchase discount is not worth that risk for me.

    • Dawn in FL

Most people get the debit card – no interest and all the benefits. But even with the credit card – it’s 25APR which equals 2.08% a month…….so if you usually pay off each month, and just can’t one month, the interest will be lower than the 5% you received. 🙂

As they do in the store, if you sign up online will you find out immediately if you are approved for the debit card?
