JCP Baby Shops will replace BabesRUs gap – JCPenney baby shop store section

Expecting a little one? 👶🏼

BabiesRUs may be a thing of the past 😭, but JCPenney Baby Shops are launching soon! Starting August 30th, JCPenney is expanding its baby selection at 500 strategically selected retail stores to reflect new merchandise categories that will make it easy for parents to shop for their bundle of joy.

“We’ve strategically chosen these 500 JCPenney locations because the majority of the stores are near a specialty baby retailer that has recently closed its doors.”- James Starke, Sr. VP and Head of Merchandising

JCPenney.com has historically offered cribs, high chairs, strollers, and car seats; however shoppers will soon find these items in 500 JCPenney stores, along with bottles, pacifiers, diaper bags, bouncer seats and activity centers from popular brands including Avent, Graco, Fisher Price, Dr. Brown’s and more.

The new baby shops inside JCPenney will be located adjacent to baby apparel, featuring an expanded assortment of Carter’s clothing along with Gerber and Okie Dokie playwear and sleepwear. Most of the products displayed will be stocked at the store so you can take it home the same day.

Have they released a list of which 500 stores will have it? I’m not seeing it on the link but I could have overlooked it. I think this is a genius idea and I hope that they experience sale increases from someone actually thinking about how to scoop up lost BRU customers . Since Babies R Us closed, there isn’t really anywhere other than Target/Walmart near us to register/shop for baby items. The closest Buy Buy Baby, Motherhood, Carters, etc. are over 35 miles away (almost an hour drive with traffic) but our local mall does have a JCPenney. 😉

Got all excited, thinking there would be freestanding JCP baby stores. Then I realized they’ll just be going inside of JCPs, so I still have to deal with all of the department store BS. Sigh.

I know that somewhere in JCP headquarters a team of execs thought this was a brilliant idea. With the demise of ToysRus and some BabiesRus stores, having a dedicated baby store w/in JCP may theoretically do well. Plus, it’s an unlimited market (people are always having babies) and it gets more foot traffic in the dept stores. I don’t think it will work. This is age of convenience and online shopping. I do hope this gamble helps JCP make a comeback.

Agreed!! Having to still deal with a department store is a hassle and inconvenient…. stand alone locations wouldve been better!

In recent years JCPenny has become the new sears….next they will add auto/tools

I think JCP could really do a lot better if they had their baby furniture on display. I ordered a set from there site unseen. I loved it. I used the reviews to try to decide to give it ya shot. No where do they have locations that dispatch the furniture. It’s truck delivered and there us a charge do you want to make sure you like it. I am hoping that is incorporated I to this new baby department.

Don’t really see the difference between what JCP has now and what they a planning on putting in their quote “baby stores”. They aren’t trying to help Mama’s to Be they are trying really hard to cash in on BabiesRus closings 🙁

If they would have maternity clothes you can try on, that would be great. None of the JCP stores within a one hour radius have that. They used to, but phased it out and maternity clothes are one category that it’s hard to buy online because you really have no idea how they are going to fit. Kohl’s is the only place in my town that has them, and it’s a pretty limited selection.

Am I just not remembering correctly, but I could have SWORN when I worked for them back in the 90’s they had the same exact thing. It wasn’t called a baby shop, it was just infants and kids. This is nothing really new, unless they are making old become new? When I worked for Penney’s they had a huge housewares dept right beside the babies. You could get special figurines, cards, toys and collectibles like Boyd’s bears and Middleton dolls. And then they did away with all of it and “streamlined” everything as they call it. A lot of shopper’s were angry. I left the company soon afterwards. and didn’t shop there for several years.
